WURD Radio, the lone Black-owned talk radio station in the state of Pennsylvania, partnered with Lincoln Park Strategies, a Washington, D.C.-based research firm, to conduct a national Black voter poll. It is the first poll of 2020 to issued in conjunction with a Black-owned media outlet and the results are now available for viewing.

The LPS-WURD poll surveyed 1,000 Black adults nationwide asking a series of questions regarding the upcoming 2020 presidential election and the field on both sides of the aisle. Among those surveyed 54 percent were women and 44 percent were men. In addition, 83 percent were registered voters, while 14 percent of those polled were not registered.

Among the many interesting findings that stood out in the LPS-WURD poll, 39 percent of the respondents say that they will vote for the Democratic Party’s nominee for president depending on who wins the nomination. Adding to this, 37 percent say they will vote for the Democratic nominee regardless of who is selected, while 10 percent add they will place their vote in favor of President Donald Trump.

While not a direct indication of growing apathy, 11 percent of those polled say they will not vote at all during this year’s election cycle. Also of note, respondents under the age of 45 made comprised 14 percent of the overall number of non-voters.

If a third-party nominee emerges of note, 3 percent of respondents say that person will get their vote. In regards to those who wish to see a Trump defeat, 44 percent of those polled view that as a top priority, contrasting the 24 percent who believed defeating Trump is just as important as the issues presented by the Democratic opposition.

Current front-runner Sen. Bernie Sanders was favored heavily to the tune of 53 percent should he emerge as the Democratic nominee to face Trump in November. If former Vice President Joe Biden were the party’s nominee, 51 percent say they would vote for him in the general election, while 48 percent say they would vote for the surprisingly surging Michael Bloomberg in a race against Trump.

“One of the most intriguing, but alarming results from this poll is the percentage of Black voters who are saying they’ll tap out of the election  — 11% overall saying they won’t vote and 14% of Black voters under the age of 45 saying they won’t vote,” Charles Ellison, National Politics Correspondent for WURD, said in a statement. “That’s just troubling. It’s especially bad when we consider how hard-fought these rights were and the accelerated, systematic attacks on voting we’re seeing today. Electorally, it’s a worrisome sign for Democrats since Black voters are key to their chances at retaking the White House and Senate.”

To echo part of Ellison’s statement, the Democratic Party solidly owns the lion’s share of the Black vote but white working-class voters still remain a large and significant bloc that the candidates are vying for with young voters of all demographics tailing right behind them. It is too early to suggest the beginnings of party defection for Black Democrats, but signs point to the Democratic Party seemingly struggling to retain its relevancy with a once-reliable collective of supporters.

Travis Scott Gave Free Astroworld Festival Tickets for Voters at Houston Polls

Yesterday (Nov. 6) Travis Scott made one more move to inspire fans to cast a ballot when he dropped off a couple of piles of free tickets to his Astroworld Festival at select polling areas in Houston.

In a tweet announcing his blessings, Scott stated, “SAVED SOME TIX FOR THE CITY AT THESE VOTING LOCATIONS. GO VOTE !!”

The post also included a flyer with select surveying areas in Houston that held tickets for his upcoming Astroworld Festival, which will happen at the H-Town’s NRG Park on Nov. 17.

This move arrived pretty much half a month after Scott supported Democratic applicant Beto O’Rourke in the Texas Senate Race. The “Sicko Mode” appeared at a rally to show his support for O’Rourke.

In spite of the fact that O’Rourke had the help of Scott and even Beyonce, he ultimately lost to Ted Cruz, who figured out how to clutch his seat in the Texas senate.

Scott was one of numerous artist to urge their fans to go out and vote. Meek Mill, Lil Yachty, Rihanna, Diddy, Beyonce and more sent a lot of messages on social media that focused on the significance of voting in all decisions, and their proposals of who to vote in favor of. While the “Formation” singer pushed for the place where she grew up to vote in favor of O’Rourke, artists like Diddy, DJ Khaled, Fat Joe and more campaigned for Andrew Gillum’s last rally before Election Day.

Will Weed Be the Deciding Factor in the 2018 Midterm Elections?

As the 2018 midterm elections draw closer to voting time, many people are taking a stand on what they’ll be basing their decisions on. While prison reform, immigration, support in urban communities and the latest dealings when it comes to “Agent Orange” are some of the key notes of focus, one surprising factor that will surely swing votes is the stance on one smokey subject: weed, both from a recreational use perspective and decriminalizing the use of it overall.

Here’s what’s Rolling Stone is saying about it in a detailed profile that speaks on marijuana’s effect on the coming midterm elections:

“Though Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer introduced his own marijuana bill to decriminalize and regulate at the federal level, he won’t commit to bringing it up for a vote if he becomes majority leader. It’s the same story in the House — when asked if she’d bring a marijuana bill up for a vote, Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi wavered. “I don’t know where the president is on any of this. So any decision about how we go forward would have to reflect where we can get the result,” she said. “You’ve heard me say it, over and over: Public sentiment is everything.”

With Democratic leaders refusing to commit to even voting on marijuana, their candidate’s positions on it are as much of a patchwork as the nation’s disparate marijuana laws — and it could affect some of the most contested races in the country.”

With the main agrument being a “medical vs. recreational” matter, those at the top of the hill are calling on Democrats to rally up in support of the “pro-pot” movement to oppose the other side. According to NCIA Media Relations Director Morgan Fox in the same article, she says, “Some Democrats are still leery of publicly supporting marijuana policy reform for fear of backlash from Republican opponents, but they shouldn’t be.” She goes on to add that, “Supporting marijuana policy reform pretty much guarantees a boost of several points in the polls for candidates of either party.”

Make sure you all get out there and vote, but head over to Rolling Stone right now to read this hard-hitting feature and let us know your opinions over on our Facebook and Twitter.

Georgia Judge Orders End To Rejection Of Absentee Ballots Over Signatures #REPRESENTthevote

The state of Georgia is the hotbed of one of the most important races ahead of the general election just two weeks away. In a victory for voting rights advocates, a judge has declared an end to the rejection of absentee ballots due to signatures.

USA Today reports that U.S. District Judge Leigh Martin May made official a temporary restraining that will give voters an opportunity to contest any rejection due to issues with the ballot. The ruling was put forth on Wednesday (Oct. 24) and was made official yesterday (Oct. 25). The significance of this is huge considering that voters had little in the way of a defense in having their ballots rejected due to their signature not matching their official paperwork.

“The court does not understand how assuring that all eligible voters are permitted to vote undermines integrity of the election process,” May said. “To the contrary, it strengthens it.”

She added, “Permitting an absentee voter to resolve an alleged signature discrepancy … has the very tangible benefit of avoiding disenfranchisement.”

Stacey Abrams, the Democratic Party’s gubernatorial candidate, is poised to become the first Black woman to become governor in the United States and the stakes are certainly high. Her Republican opponent, Secretary of State Robert Kemp, turned heads after leaked audio provided in a Rolling Stone story revealed that Kemp is concerned about Abrams’ ability to get voters to hit the polls.

In Trump’s MAGA-loving nation, a white man boldly displayed a firearm after allegedly threatening a Black North Carolina campaign worker. The incident took place at an early-voting site, and police have arrested the man for carrying what was discovered to be a BB gun.

WBTV reports:

According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, the incident happened around 2:30 p.m. at a voting location in the 11000 block of South Tryon Street.

Officers arrived in response to an armed man threatening a campaign worker at a voting location.

Officials say when officers arrived on the scene, a black man said he was working at the voting location when he saw the armed man in the parking lot with a camera taking pictures or recording the polling location.

Police say the armed man approached the campaign worker, and began hurling racial slurs, according to a report from CMPD.

The report stated the campaign worker said the armed man threatened to assault him before lifting his shirt and displaying a handgun which was in a holster on his belt.

The outlet adds that cops arrested 28-year-old Jason Donald Wayne, charging him with going armed to the terror of the people, ethnic intimidation, communicating threats and disorderly conduct. Two other men were with Wayne but did not face charges. Federal charges may be pending after an investigation.

Stacey Abrams Calls For Georgia Secretary Of State Brian Kemp To Resign

Georgia Secretary of State And Gubernatorial Candidate Brian Kemp Holds Primary Night Event In Athens, Georgia

Stacey Abrams is calling for Brian Kemp to resign from office following all the confusion he’s been causing voters. As Secretary of State, Kemp is responsible for oversight of elections and voter registration.

It just so happens that Kemp is also running against Democrat Abrams in the race for governor—we’re sure you can see the conflict of interest there. This week, Kemp has been up to his neck in accusations that he is suppressing the Black vote with an “exact match” law that put 53,000 voter registration applications on hold. 70% of the applications that were placed on hold came from African Americans.

Now, Abrams’ spokeswoman Abigail Collazo asked that Kemp step down from his current office so that “Georgia voters can have confidence that their Secretary of State competently and impartially oversee this election,” CNN states.

Meanwhile, Kemp claims it has “never been easier to vote.” He said in a statement, according to the site: “While outside agitators disparage this office and falsely attack us, we have kept our head down and remained focused on ensuring secure, accessible, and fair elections for all voters. The fact is that it has never been easier to register to vote and get engaged in the electoral process in Georgia, and we are incredibly proud to report this new record.”

Not surprisingly, Kemp blamed Abrams for any registration issues. CNN states: “Kemp also placed blame on the New Georgia Project, which was founded by Abrams when she was the Georgia House minority leader, and ahead of the 2014 elections set out to sign up 800,000 new young and minority voters. Kemp responded to the influx of new applications that year by launching an investigation into its practices. No allegations of wrongdoing were ever brought directly against the group and Abrams, her campaign said, is no longer involved in its activities. In a tweet on Wednesday night, Kemp again sought to place the onus for the flagged registrations on the New Georgia Project, saying it had ‘submitted sloppy forms.’”

Stay tuned.

Taylor Swift Spikes Voter Registration Numbers After Endorsing Pair Of Democrats

Taylor Swift reputation Stadium Tour

Source: Johnny Louis/WENN.com / WENN

Taylor Swift has enjoyed massive amounts of success, doing so while not being directly open about her political affiliations. However, the singer turned the heads of her 112 million followers on Instagram by endorsing a pair of Democrats running for Congress in her home state of Tennessee and voter registration numbers have reportedly spiked.

From Swift’s Instagram page:

Running for Senate in the state of Tennessee is a woman named Marsha Blackburn. As much as I have in the past and would like to continue voting for women in office, I cannot support Marsha Blackburn. Her voting record in Congress appalls and terrifies me. She voted against equal pay for women. She voted against the Reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act, which attempts to protect women from domestic violence, stalking, and date rape. She believes businesses have a right to refuse service to gay couples. She also believes they should not have the right to marry. These are not MY Tennessee values. I will be voting for Phil Bredesen for Senate and Jim Cooper for House of Representatives.

The endorsement has gotten responses from prominent members of the Republican Party, including former governor of Arkansas, Mike Huckabee who wrote via Twitter, “So @taylorswift13 has every right to be political but it won’t impact election unless we allow 13 yr old girls to vote. Still with #MarshaBlackburn.”

According to Buzzfeed News, Swift dipping her toes in the political waters have yielded positive gains in registration in Tennessee and nationwide.

From Buzzfeed News:

“We are up to 65,000 registrations in a single 24-hour period since T. Swift’s post,” said Kamari Guthrie, director of communications for Vote.org.

For context, 190,178 new voters were registered nationwide in the entire month of September, while 56,669 were registered in August.

In Swift’s home state of Tennessee, where she voiced support for two Democratic candidates running in this year’s midterms, voter registrations have also jumped.

“Vote.org saw [Tennessee] registrations spike specifically since Taylor’s post,” Guthrie said. The organization has received 5,183 in the state so far this month — at least 2,144 of which were in the last 36 hours, she said, up from 2,811 new Tennessee voter registrations for the entire month of September and just 951 in August.

Good job, Swifties.
