Wiz Khalifa made a successful transition from a promising upstart in the blog and mixtape era to becoming a household name and unexpected crossover star. Today marks the 10th anniversary of his celebrated Kush & Orange Juice (stylized as Kush & OJ) mixtape and he’s partnered with some old friends to repackage the release from the digital realm into the form of vinyl.

Just ahead of his double-platinum major-label debut album Rolling Papers, Kush & OJ established Khalifa as a leader of his era’s burgeoning youth movement. The Taylor Gang honcho brought all of his formidable talent and penchant for melody together for the mixtape, which many fans have praised since its release.

Partnering with Rostrum Records, Khalifa will re-release Kush & OJ on wax which fans can pre-order, marking a first for the stoner classic. Across the album, the Pittsburgh spitter shows off his chemistry with fellow Pittsburgh native Sledgren, Cardo, and Big K.R.I.T., who appears on the track “Glass House” alongside Khalifa’s frequent collaborator and fellow weed enthusiast Curren$y.

“Glass House is a crowd favorite. We created a moment with that record, know what I’m saying? 2010, SXSW. It happened so organically and then wiz reached out like, ‘Yo I wanna put this on Kush & Orange Juice,’ and that was my first introduction to a lot of his fan base,” K.R.I.T. says in a press statement. “Its been crazy since then — between going on tour and performing it every time we hit the stage together. That’s what timeless music is all about. Because now, it’s 2020, the 10 year anniversary and that record still goes up you feel me?”

Cardo adds, “The sound of the project presented something refreshing to the music world and Wizzle Man being who he is made everyone look unique in their own way, from me, to Sledgren, to Juliano. The project showed the world some fly sh*t and had the whole world up in smoke literally. It was such an honor to be a part of this timeless project, what a time this was for all of us. Happy 10 year anniversary Kush & OJ.”

Pharoahe Monch’s Debut LP ‘Internal Affairs’ Will Be Available On Streaming Platforms

Pharoahe Monch broke out on his own in 1999 after three acclaimed albums with his former group, Organized Konfusion with his debut solo album, Internal Affairs. After the album was pulled from shelves due to a sampling clearance issue, the album will be released again to streaming platforms and on vinyl to commemorate the album’s 20th anniversary.

Internal Affairs was released on October 19, 1999, via legendary underground Hip-Hop label Rawkus Records and Priority Records, bolstered by the thumping Lee Stone and Monch-produced “Simon Says” track. That song actually is the reason for the album’s disappearance from mainstream retail outlets due to the sampling of the theme music from the Godzilla films.

Taking to Instagram, Monch shared news of the rerelease to his fans along with an upcoming Kennedy Center performance in Washington on October 17.

Check out the post below and congrats to Pharoahe Monch for securing his legacy and well-deserved bag!

Juvenile’s ‘400 Degreez’ Gets Exclusive Pressing From Vinyl Me, Please

Juvenile 400 Degreez Vinyl Me, Please Pressing

Juvenile helped propel Cash Money Records onto the national map with the massive success of his third studio album, 400 Degreez, which recently celebrated its 20th-anniversary last November. Record collection club Vinyl Me, Please re-released the classic project for the first time on wax for its members in an exclusive pressing that collectors are sure to enjoy.

From Vinyl Me, Please:

Andrew Winistorfer, Vinyl Me, Please Head of Editorial and Classics A&R: This project started this summer, when we got sort of tossed the keys to the Cash Money vaults. We immediately decided we needed to do a Lil Wayne album, but me and Michael also went through the catalog and gave them a list of albums we wanted to do. We settled on Tha Carter III, Tha Carter II, The Mind of Mannie Fresh, Guerrilla Warfare, 400 Degreez and another one I won’t name because if it does happen I don’t want to spoil it here. We got the go ahead on five of the six for sure, and it was then that we realized that 400 Degreez had never been officially released, and we needed to do that as a separate month. This one feels like a really straight-forward release: It’s never been on vinyl, and here it is. Come get it.

Cameron Schaefer, Vinyl Me, Please Head of Brand: Yeah, and with doing the three exclusive colors, we felt like it was an opportunity to tell the story of Cash Money over the course of a couple months. This might be the way we do this going forward with Classics and Rap & Hip Hop and elsewhere, where we sort of take you on a journey into a label’s catalog over the course of a couple months. It’s a tidy story to tell via records in the span of just a few months, as opposed to trying to do this over a year or something.

Michael, you hadn’t heard this whole album till we full-on picked it. As a younger rap fan, what jumped out at you about it?

Michael Penn II, Vinyl Me, Please Staff Writer: I’ve seen so many memes and been to so many freshman parties that were centered around the big singles coming on, so I heard those. I didn’t hear the full thing till we picked it, and as a huge Wayne fan, it was awesome to go back and see, with the Hot Boy$ stuff and the Juvenile stuff to see where this branch all started. They’ve all been namechecked throughout history, and getting to extend that knowledge beyond the singles was great.
