As one of the forerunners of the Dirty South-powered trap music movement, 2 Chainz will be expanding his fan base after he announced via social media that his next project will be his last offering of “trap music”.

Over the weekend, the Atlanta-based superstar tweeted, “This gone be my last trap album, enjoy.”

Chainz announced earlier this year that he was prepping to drop a new project, as his last project, So Help Me God, was released last November. The concept of the new album has not been revealed, but reports have stated that he and Wayne are working on the sequel to their collaboration project ColleGrove.

T.I. to Teach ‘Business Of Trap Music’ at Clark Atlanta University This Fall

T.I. Apologizes for Hymen Comments About Deyjah Harris

According to a confirmed report from Billboard, Atlanta rap icon T.I. will be teaching a class about the financial structure of trap music.

It may sound unreal, but Mr. Harris is slated to begin teaching the class this fall at famed HBCU Clark Atlanta University along with Dr. Melva K. Williams. The class reportedly will teach the financial foundation as well as the history of the popular sub-genre that has exploded into mainstream music.

When speaking about his new secondary education gig, T.I. said, “I’m excited to share my experiences and whatever resources or information I have that can be an asset for the future. Drugs have existed for as long as humans have been on earth and music has existed for quite some time as well. The commonality that threads the two together is what makes trap music a dominant force in culture today.”

Tuesday (August 13) the life of the late Nipsey Hussle was honored by T.I. with a new exhibit at the Trap Music Museum in Atlanta.

Alongside co-curator James Miller and artists BK The Artist, Dizzy and Quake, T.I. hosted an exclusive event showing off the latest addition to the museum. The exhibit which was unveiled ahead of what would have been the late rapper’s 34th birthday features three pieces of artwork. A portrait of Nip comprised of all the things he loved, including his kids, books, partner Lauren London and The Marathon Store. The other pieces included a recreated version of Nipsey’s Victory Lap cover and a red and blue Crenshaw baseball jersey.

Sadly there were no official celebrations of life co-signed by the Hussle estate for Neighborhood Nip’s birthday. Lauren London did reveal by reposting a message a Nipsey Hussle Tower is being erected near the Slauson Ave shopping center. When it is finished, it will serve as the new memorial being that Nip’s The Marathon Clothing Store will be shutting its doors to the public.

To get a better look at the art pieces from the museum, check out the post below and never forget The Marathon Continues.

T.I. Claps Back at Fan Who Says he Only has Two Good Songs

There’s no question that T.I. has had a long, successful career. However, one Instagram user doesn’t seem to agree.

While taking a dip in the pool with his daughter, Tip hopped on Instagram Live and came across a comment that suggested the Atlanta rapper hasn’t done enough musically to be eulogized.

It said, ‘T.I. had two good songs I won’t lie.’ … If 18 years later, two good songs get your ass out here with this kinda lifestyle, you better get you two good songs then, buddy. … You better start working on them two good songs,” T.I. said, laughing as he pointed the camera at the massive pool he was swimming in. “Can’t worry about the lies more than you worry about the truth. Never can do that.”

DJ Akademiks posted the Instagram live and Drake came through in the comments with the assist. “I think he meant two many good songs,” Champagne Papi said.

Drake is absolutely correct. Tip has three No. 1 albums, aper Trail, King, T.I. vs. T.I.P.—and two No. 2 albums, Trouble Man: Heavy Is the Head and Paperwork. Additionally, he has a number of chart-topping songs including Whatever You Like,” “No Mediocre,” “U Don’t Know Me,” “Dead and Gone,” “Big Things Poppin’,” “Bring Em Out,” “Live Your Life,” and “You Know What It Is.” Aside from the commercial success, T.I. arguably invented trap music, and starred in the film ATL, which is now a cult classic.

Once again it is proven that age is nothing but a number. A senior citizen has emerged as a drum machine master.

As spotted on CBS News, a Chicago native has seemingly found his true calling with music. After being ordered to stay home by his doctor Arthur Dubois made use of the time by studying production. Fast forward about a couple of years and the 72-year-old is now proficient at making trap instrumentals.

On March 4 he placed a call to Haven Studios in his Southside neighborhood. When owner Andre “Add-2” Daniels met Dubois in person he was stunned on how good his tracks were. “When the bass dropped, my face went into full shock. His beats sounded exactly like the beats I hear my 16, 17, 21-year-old mentees rapping to,” Daniels explained. “I thought it was a fluke. I went to the next one and it was just as good, then the next and the next. Each time I was in pure disbelief.”

Daniels was so impressed he filmed the footage and shared it on social media. The videos quickly went viral eventually grabbing the attention of many in the music industry. “Add-2” has since created a Twitter account for Dubois @BeatsByArthur. The grandfather of three showed his appreciation with a heartfelt post. “I would like to thank all of you for supporting me and appreciating my music. It warms my heart.”

The news network also mentions there is talk about creating a movie about his life. You can hear a snippet of his work below.

Offset Says Older Artists Should be ‘Kissing Feet’ Because Younger Artists Helped Hip Hop Become Mainstream

While Offset was making his rounds promoting his solo album, Father of 4, he stopped by Hot 97’s E Bro in the Morning and made a comment that may rub veteran rappers the wrong way.

The Migos rapper discussed the backlash new artists get from the seasoned ones. Although beat production heavily carries a song filled with drug-using misogynistic lyrics now a days, Hip Hop dethroned Rock as the number 1 genre in the country.

According to the “Clout” rapper instead of hating on the young rappers, the older artists should be “kissing feet” for their contribution to mainstream Hip Hop.

“If you’re an older artist, you should be thanking us, kissing our feet. Not just the Migos… Hip-hop has never been the No. 1 genre ever. Right now when you go to Spotify, you’re not seeing the other genres [like] pop, country.”

He added, “Because of how streams is, people are listening to hip-hop more than any other time. So you should salute us, we made this bigger than it ever was. You fought for it, you set the tone, your style is just different.”

Apparently Lupe Fiasco caught wind of Offset’s comments and he sounded off on Instagram. “The metrics of industry don’t successfully define the essence of hip-hop nor do they replace its legacy or the efforts of its pioneers who achieved great things with little to nothing in terms of materials (i.e. the internet and massive marketing budgets) and from that poverty of capital created a Culture, not a business, a legitimate Culture and were actively combatted by opposing forces from all walks of life.”

What are your thoughts? Check out the full interview above.

The disconnect…The Reconnect. Firstly let me say that I’m a huge fan of the Migos (specifically Emitt Smith & Fight Night. Also when I go to the club I only really get up and dance dance my little dance to Migos. True story) Secondly let me say that the only visceral problem with brother offsets statement is the use of the cliche “kissing feet”. That’s not a sign of respect that’s an act of subjugation of something lower to something higher and as Busta Rhymes told me when it comes to rap there are no classes, or superiors vs inferiors. We are all a team. Each with individual attributes that add their special skill set and energy to the whole. The metrics of industry don’t successfully define the essence of hiphop nor do they replace its legacy or the efforts of its pioneers who achieved great things with little to nothing in terms of materials (i.e. the internet and massive marketing budgets) and from that poverty of capital created a Culture, not a business, a legitimate Culture and were actively combatted by opposing forces from all walks of life. Streaming and selling records is only a part of the project that is hip hop. It’s a great feeling and milestone to sell a million records and be celebrated for that achievement. But it is just as great to be an amazing lyricist respected by thousands or just 1 for your abilities to craft amazing pieces of communication that can operate to influence society as a whole not just exclusively on a dance floor. Hip hop got its RESPECT from rappers who spoke truth to power and struck fear in the comfort zones of oppression and inspired folks to take a look at their surroundings, analyze and OVERCOME. Hip Hop isn’t respected because of how many records it has sold or how many dances it has created UNLESS WE TALM BOUT BREAKDANCING. Hip Hop is respected because it’s kisses nobodies feet. And never will. Our feet don’t belong on the mouths of our pioneers they belong on their shoulders. . . . The true rapper is the one who continues to do it when it’s no money, no fame, no cars, no jewelry…just the love of the craft that keeps them on that grind. That’s the bar. Everything else other than that is just filler and cap.
