trae tha truth

Last year, Houston rapper and local philanthropist Trae Tha Truth turned himself into police following reports of an alleged physical altercation he had with famed H-Town emcee Z-Ro, but almost a year later, Tha Truth completed a diversion program that reportedly cleared his name. As a result, his charges were dropped.

It was reported that Trae, whose real name is Frazier Thompson III. had allegedly assaulted Z-Ro during 50 Cent’s H-Town celebrity basketball weekend. Trae was released shortly after turning himself into authorities

Z-Ro went public with the assault claims, stating, “I’m from the streets and jumping people ain’t no street thing unless somebody raped somebody in your family, killed one of your loved ones, or tried to kidnap your child or something…but for just outright hate, jealousy or envy? Whatever it is, I can’t tell you what the real thoughts are because I’m definitely not going to incriminate myself and I don’t want to sound like a criminal. Right now, I’m breathing and existing in my own lane.”

This news comes as the rapper and philanthropist revealed that he was going hard with donations during the holiday season, including plans on making is providing a Thanksgiving-style meal for women and men currently locked up in the Harris County Jail.

Screen Shot 2021 06 18 at 8.10.26 AM

Panel guests included:

American rapper, songwriter, record executive and activist from Houston, Texas says you “don’t have to be qualified” to have a voice and shares how he’s “always spoke up” for his people: “Sometimes you have to step up and get involved. Like when I leave the house, from whether it’s for George Floyd, or Breonna Taylor, or anybody I understand there’s a chance I’m not coming back home and I’m prepared for that for my people.”
  • Phylicia Rashad – Famed American actress, singer, stage director, and newly appointed Dean of Fine Arts at Howard University. Participant in the Juneteenth Unityfest event reflects on the world uniting to stand for human rights and said “One of the most gratifying days in life that I remember was at the heels of the George Floyd tragedy. And that was the day that people around the world, without a single leader, without an organization, without an arranged affair, came out into their streets, wherever they were in the world to stand for the dignity of every human being..That was the day that the light shone brightly. The light in every human heart..That was a day and there was no political agenda, there was no political party, there was no self-interest group, nobody funded anything. The people came out because of the light in their hearts to stand for the decency of humanity. I was so grateful to see that day.”
  • Ms. Opal Lee – The 94-year-old activist and lifelong Texan who has campaigned to make June 19th a national holiday for years talks about Juneteenth’s inclusive empowerment: “It’s more than a festival..and it’s more than just black families. • April Ryan – White House Correspondent, CNN Political Analyst, D.C. Bureau Chief for TheGrio, author, and speaker comments on the lack of apologies for the atrocities inflicted on Black Americans: “The wrong has not been corrected. There’ve been apologies to so many communities for issues, the atrocities that happened to them, however, we are still uncovering, discovering, and pushing, but not knowing what to be done to change the dynamic..We have to understand that we are that part of history that I founding fathers talked about. They didn’t imagine us being a part of it, but when they say we the people, we are we the people. And we are still forming a more perfect union.. We cannot be afraid to correct the wrongs.”
  • Dr. Daina Ramey Berry – Chairperson of the History Department at University of Texas at Austin with a PhD in African American Studies speaks about uncovering the gruesome history of black bodies in medicine: “I think, the thing that surprised me in the last five years was to learn that after enslaved people died, some of their bodies were sold as part of a cadaver trade, and they were sold to medical schools for anatomical research. And that floored me because I didn’t understand why I had not learned that in graduate school. I didn’t understand why that was not part of history books. It’s not a pleasant memory. It’s not a pleasant history, but people use our bodies to learn about human anatomy and most medical students for the first 30 or 40 years of medical school research were learning on black bodies.”

The special airs on Saturday at 2:00pm and Sunday at 11:00am ET on SiriusXM Urban View, channel 126.

Scarface Announces His Campaign To Run For Houston City Council

For more than 30 years, Houston, Texas has long been a significant player in the Rap music space. Crews ranging from the Geto Boys to Screwed Up Click to Swishahouse have led musical movements far beyond the city. Artists like Chamillionaire, Paul Wall, Lil Keke, Mike Jones, Trae Tha Truth, Slim Thug have paved the way for newcomers like Megan The Stallion and Tobe Nwigwe. However, few H-Town MCs are as recognized as Brad “Scarface” Jordan. A member of the Geto Boys and Facemob, this Hip-Hop veteran has epitomized putting on for one’s city in four different decades. Now, the 48-year-old MC and H-Town stalwart looks to add yet another job title to his extensive resumé.

Scarface Explains Why It Takes Him So Long To Make Albums (Video) Today (June 8), Brad Terrence Jordan, born of Houston’s South Acres, officially announced his run for Houston City Council in District D. Brad “Scarface” Jordan is currently accepting donations on behalf of his forthcoming campaign. The announcement comes a year removed from Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner and Councilman Dwight Boykins’ declaration of Brad “Scarface” Jordan Day throughout the city of Houston on June 26. Regarding last year’s acceptance of the special date, Scarface spoke directly to the people of Houston in a press statement. ‘Face began, “You know me as ‘Scarface,’ but now you get the opportunity to meet Brad Jordan. I’ve done a lot of music and I did a lot of speaking…and I want to let y’all know I’m getting ready to make a super impact in the community because that’s the most important thing to me right now, that’s my passion: to make sure everybody is treated equally, to make sure we get equal justice, to make sure that everybody is on the same level playing field and I hope that you will stand behind me in my positive purpose of making this happen. Thank you to the city of Houston.” J. Prince Reveals Why The Tupac/Scarface Album Did Not Happen (Video) Around the same time last year, Mr. Scarface also joined forces with fellow community chieftains Samuel K. Eaton and Tony Council, P.E. as a founding partner of The Positive Purpose Movement—a non-profit organization founded in 2017 that creates and supports programs for underrepresented communities through education, empowerment, and enrichment. Further expanding his list of credentials, Brad Jordan began teaching students about the music industry and music business at local Jack Yates High School in March of 2018. In a visit to the school’s cafeteria, Scarface explained to the students, “We’ll learn how to produce, we’ll learn how to write, we’ll learn how to engineer, we will learn how to make videos,” as reported by The Houston Chronicle. “We will learn how to put our music on a platform for sale, and you will be paid for the music if you sell any records.” Face would later return to the school as a guest lecturer. Scarface Says He Is The GOAT MC…But Nas Is His Favorite (Video) Several of Scarface’s Rap peers including 2 Live Crew’s Luther “Uncle Luke” Campbell, Lords Of The Underground’s DoItAll, and Rhymefest have run for politics before. Scarface’s most recent album, Deeply Rooted: The Lost Files, was released in 2017.

Trae Compares Bars By Scarface & Bun B. His Ratings May Mess With 2 Texas Legends

Trae Tha Truth rates the bars of Scarface and Bun B in a specially-themed episode of Rate The Bars. The H-Town veteran compares excerpts from two O.G.’s widely considered to be ambassadors of Texas Rap to the rest of the world. In the ’80s and ’90s, Face and Bun Beata were trailblazers that created lanes for Trae to rise in the 2000s. Nonetheless, Trae is unafraid to be a bit critical of his past collaborators and symbolic big brothers.

Screwed Up Click alum and ABN member, emphasizes that beats as much as the hard grit of the bars are integral to his reasoning behind point choices. He feels at a disadvantage to be judging the bars off the page versus from an audio clip with the beat. He hands Brad Jordan a 3 for a guest verse on Rick Ross“Blessing In Disguise,” claiming that he relates to what is said, but suggesting that it takes a bit more to impress him.

Parsing out the lyrical intricacies between rappers, Trae admits reading the lyrics does not give them the same weight as if he heard them out loud. To that end, he doles out a 2 for Bun’s “Carter Outro IV” verse. Trae then goes on to award 2’s for both Bun B’s verse on Childish Gambino’s “RIP,” as well as Scarface’s lyrics on Beyoncé’s “I Been On (Remix).” Trae admits that the latter 2 comes from “giving people the benefit of the doubt.” The MC’s rating scale may be harsh in the eyes of some, who hold ‘Face and Bun sacred.

However, Trae does get a bit more generous. He gives his former Rap-A-Lot Records label-mate a 4 for “Guess Who’s Back,” a 3 for “Mac & Brad,” and a 3.5 for“Hand Of The Dead Body.” Trae tells the show’s producers that next time he wants to select the lyrics, claiming that the excerpts he was given do not sound good when read aloud. However, he gives Scarface’s iconic “Mind Playin’ Tricks On Me” bars a perfect 5. He recognizes the verse instantly.

He then hands Bun B a 4 for UGK’s “Diamonds And Wood,” as well as for “Murder.” Trae awards a 3 for “Money, H*es, And Power” and a 3.5 for the BDP homage “They Down With Us,” which appeared on Scarface’s The Last Of A Dying Breed LP. Trae says of some of the UGK selections that he would grade differently if he knew whether they were from before or after 1995. The Grand Hustle Records Vice President feels that the word choices should be considered.

In the total tally, Scarface edges out Bun B with a score of 20.5 to 18.5.
