Q&A With Rising Bronx Based Hip Hop Artist Tiing

We are extremely excited to have featured your debut album “In Tune”,  being a Hip Hop artist we never of heard before this, please tell us who is Tiing? Where are you from?  How did your music career come about?

Tiing is Greg Bandy II. Tiing is passion, hardwork, dedication, and love. I’m from the Bronx but I grew up all around NYC. I grew up playing violin until about 14, I got into rapping around high school just freestyling at house parties for fun. Started hitting studio and recording around 2012. Used to go by Ting Christ. Changed my name up and started producing about 2 years ago and really started tryna push myself as an artist.

We notice your style very fresh and cutting edge, focusing on lyricism, let us know how your style if different than all the rap artists out there!

My style is mine. I speak about personal experiences and my ideas of a good time making it very personal. And the choice of words and wit just comes from my personality. I speak from the heart and it flows naturally. I grew listening to a lot of funk and disco so that def has an effect on my style I think. Try to keep it groovy.

How often do you perform live?  Any plans for a tour?

I’ve performed a decent amount, my last official show was baby’s alright in Williamsburg last summer. Def plan on doing more shows this spring and summer, would love to do a little college tour perhaps. Tryna put a little something together with the team.

Let us know about the creative process behind your debut album “In Tune“?

The creative process for “In Tune” was pretty much linking up with my producer/homie Gabe Monroe (he produced most of the tracks on the project) and just vibing out haha. He’d put on a beat and if I felt it I’d just start rapping and writing. Shit was smooth.

Where do you see yourself in 5yrs?

I’m 5 years I see myself writing songs and producing just on a whole different level. Also be involved in some different ventures, I really like wine and craft beer. It’d be awesome to be involved in some kind of brewery maybe or own a bar or two. We shall see.

When are you planning on dropping another project in 2019?

I’ve been working on an EP I wanna drop during the summer time. Very excited about this project because it’s mostly produced by me and my brotha s’natra. Haven’t really got to show listeners the production skills too much yet. “Samba” from In Tune was produced by us and Gabe.

Are there any Hip Hop influences you have in the underground game that is based in your city?

I’d honestly say my Homies S’natra and T-Shyne I guess lol. It’s hard to say what’s considered underground hip hop, I know they be making some fire though and it’s always influential to see friends creating dope shit and doing dope shit.

How does social media playing a role in your success? How are fans/supporters helping your movement?

Social media is def very important to get the music out to ppl around the world. I had someone post “Brown Paper Bag” the other day on their story and I hit them up to say thank you and she was saying how she just stumbled across the song on a play list on Spotify. Reaching out to show my appreciation is important and that’s not possible without social media. And fans/supporters from of mine help by listening and posting and showing love for songs they enjoy. I’m nothing with out fans and supporters, as long as they keep listening and showing their friends, i will continue to have the energy do this everyday and love it.

With this being an underground hip hop site, we always ask this important question. What is your definition of “underground hip hop”?

Underground hip hop to me is that raw, honest, genuine hip hop that’s not tarnished by trying to reach a certain requirement to be considered mainstream. That talent that just hasn’t been found yet or that’s being over looked.

Where can people find you on the Internet? Drop all the vital links.

Tiing – “In Tune” (Album Review)

Emerging Bronx Ny rapper Tiing has released his 1st release of 2019 with “In Tune“, At 1st glance the multi dimensional cover caught my attention right away (in my mind) I ripped the package off digitally and blasted the full album  1-11 In my 1996 Nissan Altima. Tiing is the son of a Ny Jazz legend by the name of Greg Bandy Its like the best artist come form Jazz legends or something, Greg Bandy a Jazz drummer who some say to revolutionize his instrument & Track 1 is only right to start off with Pops narrating the beginning.

Pops starts off with some game from back in the day as we go into the knowledge a man teaches his son in “Diamonds & Coals”, I especially like the vibe and the message behind this song along with the rhyme scheme riding on top of each word. From the jump I start to form a vision of what the rest of the album sounds like.

“Galleries” was about drip & barz reminded me of the Wayne Corey Gunz days when the beat was big and barz was raw I can imagine the visual attached to this song. “Balance”  featuring Mari was about keeping your head level within the status which is harder then it sounds with the assort of vanities in the world and music industry not to mention. The sonic vibe was smooth I especially li liked the hook it gave it a real balance and brought it to life.

“Brown Paper Bag” is again a reminiscing of our age of barz ushered in like artist like Cassidy, Fab &Lil Wayne, I can see Tiing evolving his craft and only getting better added newer elements to his artistry. Party vibe I can see this song along with “Cohiba” being spinned by Deejays on demand. Tiing’s Songwriting ability  is on full display as we ride half way through the album showing his versatility as this sound reminds me of 21 savage & Young Thug mixed giving it its own unique vibe.

“IDC” fits perfect on this album as it continues the party vibe light up the night the beat is banging with a non chalant tempo that went hand & hand. After listening to most of this album I can imagine fans of artist like Dom Kennedy taking a liking to “In Tune”or even Dj mustard & YGs audience. “Talk Shit” was just that featuring S’natra as the beat synchronized with a computer sound sped up giving them a faster bpm to talk shit.

“Samba” feat Lean automatic was the coming of a prince so to speak with a track with substance and an internal reflection on love & life. This is the mindset that will create wealth inside”I put my trust into the universe rather do & learn then not do at all” most people in the world will never achieve their goals because they simply dont go after them, For more music from the Bronx artist visit his website and follow him on his social media accounts.

Rating: 8/10
