Diddy: Biggie’s “Hypnotize” Video Shoot Was First Time We Tried Ecstasy

Screen Shot 2022 05 25 at 12.16.24 PM

While posthumously celebrating the 50th birthday of the Notorious B.I.G., Diddy participated in TIDAL’s Twitter Spaces convo about the King Of New York, where he shared some of his most memorable experiences with the late Brooklyn legend. One memory that has raised eyebrows, especially during the country’s opiate epidemic, is Diddy telling the story of when he and Biggie first tried Ecstacy on the set of the “Hypnotize” video.

During the TIDAL convo, Diddy said, “Ah man, the video was fun.” He continued: “That was like the first time we both tried ecstasy. I mean, it was an experience, you know what I’m saying? Ayo, Biggie’s 50. Check this out, we have nothing to hide. That was a long time ago… it was the first time. It was just a little nibble, it was all right. It was a little nibble. But we was in extra high, high spirits. Yeah, this breaking news and s**t. F**k it. On his 50th birthday, I wanna let y’all know that.”

Hear the entire convo below.

JAY-Z Lays Down Challenge for Anyone Who Thinks They Can Create a Better Playlist Than Him

JAY-Z Recalls Boycotting The Grammys Because DMX Was Snubbed

JAY-Z hops on TIDAL here and there and drops a playlist for music lovers. During a chat with Jack Dorsey, owner of Twitter and to who Hov sold TIDAL to, the two talked music and entrepreneurship, but then Hov laid down a challenge.

“I found so many songs, my playlist game is A++. I challenge anyone out there. I’m definitely, you know, in the top tier of playlist creators,” Hov said.

During the conversation, Hov revealed why he partnered with Jack.

“I think we were aligned in our conversation, and viewing artists and creatives as small businesses and treating each individual artist as a business,” Jay said. “And the things that Square and Cash App were doing is pretty much aligned with what one does with their own brand. You create a business, take out a small loan, get the things you need to help you be successful and build it out from there. So our conversations just naturally aligned.”

Back in March, JAY-Z sold a majority ownership stake in TIDAL to Square. Square will pay a mix of cash and stock in the value of $297 million. The remaining shareholders that are artists will remain in place. JAY-Z will also move into Square’s Board of Directors.

“I said from the beginning that TIDAL was about more than just streaming music, and six years later, it has remained a platform that supports artists at every point in their careers,” JAY-Z said on Twitter. “Artists deserve better tools to assist them in their creative journey. Jack and I have had many discussions about TIDAL’s endless possibilities that have made me even more inspired about its future. This shared vision makes me even more excited to join the Square board. This partnership will be a game-changer for many. I look forward to all this new chapter has to offer!”

Jay-Z Closes Sale Of TIDAL To Jack Dorsey’s Square

Celebrity Sightings In Los Angeles - March 30, 2021

Source: MEGA / Getty

A lot more people than are willing to admit it now thought that Jay-Z was crazy when he purchased TIDAL back in 2015. Getting in on the streaming wave early paid off for the Brooklyn rapper turned mogul, who has finalized the sale of the streamer to Jack Dorsey of Square fame for $350 million.

TMZ reports that the deal was closed on Friday, May 30. Dorsey announced in March that he intended to give Jay-Z a bag for TIDAL, at least partially.

Jay-Z launched Tidal back in 2015—he purchased the Spotify rival for a healthy $56 million—with a celeb-filled announcement that included “partners” like Kanye West, Rihanna and Madonna. No word on whether or not they’ll be getting a check courtesy of the sale, if they’re still around. However, the deal reportedly includes Square getting an 80% ownership stake in Tidal along with the licensing deals with major record labels.

Word is that, besides Jay-Z himself who had been spotted kicking it with Jack Dorsey in the Hamptons, Roc Nation CEO Desiree Perez also helped broker the deal. This isn’t the first time Jay-Z got a healthy return on his investment. Back in 2017 he reportedly sold a one-third of the company to Sprint for an undisclosed amount.

Expect Jay-Z’s name to be at least a little bit higher on the next schedule Forbes list. He’s also keeping busy with his other gig. Jay-Z’s verse on “Sorry Not Sorry” with Nas off the DJ Khaled’s latest compilation album, Khaled Khaled, has been getting props across the Internets.

Megan Thee Stallion Honors #BlackLivesMatter During Virtual TIDAL Performance

Megan Thee Stallion Honors #BlackLivesMatter During Virtual TIDAL Performance

Despite experiencing gun violence herself, Megan Thee Stallion used her platform to advocate for victims of police brutality and injustices.

Live Nation and TIDAL put together virtual show headlined by the Houston rapper, and them knees seem to be working just fine.

Meg ran through a slew of her hits including “Savage,” “Cash Sh*t,” “Big Ole Freak,” and more. But the highlight of the performance was when the screen lit up and read, “this shit is exhausting,” before the names of the Black Lives Matter movement appeared on the screen: George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Tamir Rice, Freddie Gray, and Jacob Blake.

Each name was paired with a description of the incident and the dates. The tribute ended with a burning question that needs an answer. “Why is it so hard being Black in America?”

“Sometimes being a public figure, you don’t wanna say the wrong thing because you don’t want to be insensitive to people or get too opinionated,” Megan Thee Stallion told NME back in July. “But I will always say what I feel. I don’t speak on things that I don’t know about, and I won’t speak on things I don’t believe in.”

TIDAL, Revolt TV Pull Russell Simmons Drink Champs Interview Following Backlash

TIDAL, Revolt TV Pull Russell Simmons Drink Champs Interview Following Backlash

Both Revolt TV & Tidal are facing major scrutiny after fans caught wind of Russell Simmons discussing the importance of Black Lives Matter in an episode of Drink Champs.

Co-hosts, N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN, featured multiple guests discussing the topic of BLM movement. But this particular episode featured Rush, who faces multiple allegations of sexual assault. Following the episode, TIDAL promoted Simmon’s interview on social media in a partnership deal with Drink Champs.

This fueled journalist Sil Lai Abrams to call out the two brands while also speaking her mind:

“What in the entire hell are JAY-Z and TIDAL doing by giving Russell Simmons a platform to discuss #BlackLivesMatter,” Abrams wrote, responding to a since-deleted tweet from TIDAL promoting the episode and tagging Simmons.

Abrams along with two other women outlined the allegations against Simmons in the recently released HBO Max documentary On the Record.

Following the outpouring of feedback on social media, the Simmons-featured episode was ultimately removed from TIDAL.

The episode with Simmons included Talib Kweli, Bun B, Mysonne, and Marc Lamont Hill. Hill claims that he wasn’t told in advance who was scheduled to be on the show and said had he been warned earlier he wouldn’t have appeared. “During Russell’s 20ish minutes on the show, I was texting the producers telling them I was not comfortable with his press and asking to wrap up,” Hill wrote. “After the show, I expressed my frustration with what happened. I also asked them not to air Russell’s portions.”

In a response to Hill, N.O.R.E. tweeted in response to Hill’s comments saying: “I apologize for me not being fully aware of what was going on!!! I just wanted to put black men together who are powerful for a powerful convo !!! Moving forward I will be more aware of guests and who and how they are presented !!!”

Abrams then retweeted the comment, replying back with a clown and trashcan emoji.

The governor’s order will allow gyms, bowling alleys, salons and some other indoor facilities closed under his shelter in place order to resume operations by Friday if they comply with social distancing requirements and meet other safety standards. And restaurants, which were banned from in-person dining, will be allowed to reopen on April 27 if they meet guidelines his office will release later this week. Theaters will also be covered by those new standards. Bars and nightclubs will stay shuttered. (Atlanta Journal-Constitution)

Before You Go

Recent reports claimed Georgia had hit its peak in deaths caused by coronavirus. However, initial projections claimed it wouldn’t be reached until next month.

The model from the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation now shows that Georgia passed its peak for virus-related deaths April 7, and hospitals may have reached their peak demand on resources last week. Earlier projections showed those milestones would not be reached until early May, after Gov. Brian Kemp’s original stay-at-home order was scheduled to expire April 30. (WSB-TV)
