Baker Boy Releases New Single ‘Cool As Hell’

January 25th 2019 turned out to be quite a day for Danzal Baker aka Baker Boy. Since ‘Cloud 9’, the Fresh Prince of Arnhem Land has played over 70 gigs and collected 23 key awards. His feet don’t look like touching the ground anytime soon with the release of his first track for Island Records Australia/ Universal Music titled ‘Cool As Hell’. The date coincides with the announcement of Young Australian of the Year 2019 for which Danzal Baker has been nominated.unnamed-1

‘Cool As Hell’ was written by Baker Boy, along with Hip Hop greats Thundamentals and writer/producer Carl Dimataga; and is a fresh new style. With hooks galore, sprinklings of disco and a dancefloor bass-line, ’Cool As Hell’ proves “fun” is infectious. Working with Thundamentals pushed Baker Boy to build on his arsenal and embrace his singing nature. He rose to the challenge with ‘Cool As Hell’ where we get to witness another side of this brothaboy who has the innate ability to keep the element of fun and positive vibes burning bright.

Baker Boy knew he had to bring his hallmark positivity packed message and Thundamentals imagined a song Baker Boy and his crew dancing to. It didn’t need to be clever, it didn’t need to pull on the heart-strings, it just needed to be fun.

“I just came up with a loose concept of celebrating the way that music makes us all feel good”, says Baker Boy.

“Everyone latched on to the concept from the first few notes of the bassline and the song morphed really quickly and seamlessly from there,” says Carl, “basically we all had fun making this, and I think that’s come through in the finished song.”

They continue to write more songs for a forthcoming album in August.

Eminem, Lil Wayne, Logic, Hilltop Hoods and Thundamentals Dominating Album Charts in Australia

Strong album debuts on the Australian Urban Album Chart by both Lil Wayne and Logic were not enough to knock Eminem’s Kamikaze off the top spot, which he has occupied since debuting their five weeks ago. Tha Carter V debuted at #2, just ahead of Logic’s YSIV at #3 and represents a re-entry for both of them into the Australian charts. Wayne also has six songs from Tha Carter V currently in the Single Charts, a feat only matched by Eminem and Drake.

Eminem continues to reign supreme, with a further four albums on this Top 40 Album chart demonstrating his continued longevity down under. His 2002 classic The Eminem Show is the highest selling Hip-Hop album ever in Australia, being one of the only rap albums to achieve Diamond certification locally as well. The Eminem Show is the highest selling hip-hop album worldwide with over 27 million units sold, ahead of his The Marshall Mathers LP album at 21+ million copies sold since 2000. Eminem also has the two top-selling hip-hop albums of all-time in America with these two landmark releases as well.

On the domestic front, Thundamentals remain in the top 30 after their new fifth studio album “I Love Songs” debuted impressively at #5 last week and features the talents of Eves Karydas and the rising superstar that is Adrian Eagle. With ten years deep in the game now, Thundamentals continue to hit their stride and show no signs of slowing up with an ongoing packed touring schedule that has helped them develop such a wide fan base.

Australia’s hip-hop kings Hilltop Hoods also remain in the top 30 with solid sales of their latest Platinum-certified album release Drinking From The Sun, Walking Under Stars Restrung continuing despite being on the album charts for over the last two and a half years – a testament to the legacy they have built for themselves over the years.

Thundamentals – I Love Songs – Out Now

Hip-hop heavyweights Thundamentals – Tuka, Jeswon and DJ Morgs – bring you their fifth album, ‘I Love Songs’, their most progressive full-length yet.

Fans of the group will be familiar with their frequent political commentary, but in the midst of an increasingly turbulent society, Thundamentals have decided to focus their album on what’s been lost amongst the chaos: Love. As a result, ‘I Love Songs’ is an intensely personal listen, focusing on love in its varying forms, and showing Thundamentals’ undeniable writing ability in a more intimate light.

With the subject matter at hand, it’s no surprise that this is Thundamentals’ most effortless album, and their quickest to complete. ‘I Love Songs’ explores the isolation and broken romances that happen behind the scenes, away from the sold-out crowds and star-studded festivals. It’s an album of stark contrast, and brutally honest introspection that yearns for something more.
