[WATCH] Quavo Criticizes The Grammys And XXL Magazine Following Kanye West Ban

Screen Shot 2022 03 25 at 6.15.29 AM

Even though thousands of supporters petitioned to have Kanye West banned from Coachella and now the Grammy Awards due to his online behavior towards his ex-wife and her new beau, there are still many people, celebrities in particular, who are not necessarily supporting West’s antics. Still, they are condemning the cancel culture when it comes to the music/fashion mogul.

MigosQuavo shares the sentiments of Rap-A-Lot CEO J. Prince, who says that Hip Hop should form its award shows and boycott the Grammys as other Hip Hop frontrunners have done in the past. Quavo also criticized XXL for not properly highlighting up and coming artists, telling TMZ, “Instead of a Freshmen Class, we need the “Best New Artist” in the streets whenever they come out,” he said. “[Migos] couldn’t go on Freshmen Class because we was a group. So, just s**t like that. All these little stipulations on our artistry is lame because we’re creators.”

JAY-Z Recalls Boycotting The Grammys Because DMX Was Snubbed

JAY-Z Recalls Boycotting The Grammys Because DMX Was Snubbed

JAY-Z is vocal about his sentiments towards the Grammys but the first time he boycotted the annual ceremony was to stand in solidarity with DMX.

The Brooklyn emcee won Best Rap Album for Vol. 2… Hard Knock Life, meanwhile, the Yonkers rapper didn’t even receive a nod although his It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot and Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood dominated the charts.

“By the way, the first time I boycotted the Grammys was for [DMX]. We both came out that year, he didn’t get nominated,” Jay-Z said on LeBron JamesThe Shop. “He dropped two albums — had two No. 1 albums in the same year — they didn’t even nominate him. I won that year for Rap Album, so my first Grammy win I wasn’t there. I wasn’t even in the building, because I boycotted it for him. There was a competitive thing, but it was big love.”

JAY-Z and DMX had a contentious relationship that consisted of a friendly rap beef and timeless collaborations.

Hov recalled his first time meeting X while battling at a Bronx pool hall and he was admittedly shook.

“My fondest memory of DMX is he improved my stage show,” recalled Jay-Z, a native of Brooklyn. “The lights are off. He’s in the hallway. It goes dun-dun. Now, the arena’s shaking, and I’m like, ‘this is cool.’ Dun-dun. Then he goes ‘grrrrr,’ and the fuckin’ arena goes crazy. It’s deafening, and I’m like, ‘Oh, sh–.’”

Jigga went on to describe the late rapper’s unforgettable stage presence. “He’s running back and forth … Halfway through the show, then he takes his shirt off … the dog chain is drippin’, and he’s going nuts, and I’m like, ‘Sh–.’ This is halfway through,” Jay-Z continued. “First the guys were going crazy, now the girls were going crazy. Then he gets to the end, and he starts a prayer. And now they’re crying. The whole arena is crying tears. And they’re like, ‘Hey … now you go.’

JAY-Z appeared on DMX’s posthumous musical effort, Exodus, alongside Nas. What are your thoughts on their “Bath Salt” collaboration?

The Weeknd Claims He Spent Weeks Planning for Grammy Performance Before His Invitation Was Seemingly Revoked

The Weeknd Claims He Spent Weeks Planning for Grammy Performance Before His Invitation Was Seemingly Revoked

The Weeknd sounded off on the corrupt nature of the Recording Academy after he got zero Grammy nominations.

The singer said that he spent weeks working on an upcoming performance for the prestigious award ceremony, but he’s taking his snub as an uninvitation.

“Collaboratively planning a performance for weeks to not being invited? In my opinion zero nominations = you’re not invited!” he tweeted.

But it was this missile that had The Weeknd’s fans side-eyeing the Grammys. “The Grammys remain corrupt,” he stated. “You owe me, my fans and the industry transparency…”

This comes after a number of Black artists including Wiz Khalifa, Nicki Minaj, and 50 Cent blasted the voting committee for being disconnected.

Harvey Mason Jr., the Recording Academy’s chair and interim president/CEO, spoke to Billboard over the phone late Tuesday to respond to The Weeknd’s claims of the Grammy’s “corrupt” nature. “It saddened me. I try to empathize with where that came from, but it was difficult to hear,” he said. “I can understand he’s disappointed [at being shut out]. Everybody at the academy understands that he’s disappointed. I was personally surprised that he was not nominated.”

What are your thoughts?

This year’s Grammy Awards averaged 18.7 million viewers, which is a 6% decrease from last year. The production’s demo number decreased by 3.6% from the year of 2019. This has ranked the show’s worst record in history.

Last year’s Grammy’s tallied in a total of 19.9 million viewers with 100,000 audience members. It had a 5.6 rating in adults ranging from 18-49. The least-watched Grammy’s Award show goes back to 2006 ranking in a total of 17 million viewers, but the target audience and age group saved the show by still ranking in high.

Despite the news, The 2020 Grammy’s was the most-watched television show on all of Sunday night. Some hip-hop and R&Bs favorites took home a grammy award. Performers also made a tribute to the late Nipsey Hussle and Kobe Bryant, who are forever in the hearts of many.

Happy Birthday ODB(RIP)! Top Five Most Memorable Ol’ Dirty Bastard Moments

On this day Hip-Hop history we celebrate the birth of one of the culture’s brightest stars, the late, great Russell Jones, affectionately known to the Hip-Hop world as Ol’ Dirty Bastard.

To Hip Hop, Dirt Dog was more than a rapper. His personality and ostentatious demeanor were representatives of the soul of Hip-Hop. He did not let the fame and status take away from his character. Those who knew him said that he remained true to himself throughout his career making him quite the public figure. According to some, Ol’ Dirty was the type to help an old woman cross the street then, once he got to the other side, run a bystander for his jewels. He was a noble man with a righteous cause for sinning. His legacy is one that will not fade anytime soon.

In honor of his 50th-degree day, we have put together a top-five list of some of Big Baby Jesus’ most outrageous and memorable moments and these aren’t the only ones to chose from.

Performing as a Fugitive of Justice

In the fall of 2000, ODB was facing two charges for drug possession and had two separate warrants out for his arrest. This didn’t case The Specialist to lose any sleep. He, in fact, took the stage at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York performing exactly one verse before having to flee the scene. He even gave his fans a warning before gracing the mic saying, “I can’t stay on the stage too long tonight—the cops is after me.”

Taking a Limo to Pick Up Food Stamps

Who wouldn’t take advantage of the opportunity to pick up a government assistance check-in style, not ODB. In an MTV News interview, OL’ Dirty takes MTV and the viewers at home on a unique ride down to the welfare office in a fully-loaded stretch limo. If that wasn’t good enough, ODB’s response when asked why he is so blatantly making a mockery of the welfare system he responds, “[They] owe me 40 acres and a mule anyway.” Touche, Dirt Dog, touche.

Interrupting a Grammy Acceptance Speech

In 1998, way before Kanye embarrassed Taylor Swift on the VMA stage, ODB took to the stage to voice his opinion on Wu-Tang losing Best Rap Album to Puff Daddy & The Family’s No Way Out. Unfortunately for some, OBD didn’t make it on stage until Shawn Colvin was on stage making his acceptance speech for winning Song of the Year, much after the after Diddy was awarded his Grammy. In a few short moments, ODB expressed his frustration by saying,

“I went and bought me an outfit today that costed me a lot of money today because I figured Wu-Tang was going to win. I don’t know how y’all see it, but when to comes it to the children, Wu-Tang is for the children. We teach the children. Puffy is good, but Wu-Tang is the best. I want you to know that this is ODB, and I love you all.”

Giving an Interview for the Children with No Shoes on Outside

In one of his best interviews, ODB goes on a rant about being only for the children on the streets of Brooklyn, while barefoot. At first glance, it may seem strange, but if you think about it, the prophets of old were more than likely shoe-less. Trying to picture Jesus speaking to his disciples in a pair of crisp white Air Force Ones just isn’t right, maybe Big Baby was on to something.

Made video with Mariah Carey “Fantasy”

Just when you thought that there was only a “dirty version” to ODB, he opened up his soft side and collaborated with legendary songbird Mariah Carey for her “Fantasy” remix. Carey ended up being one of Dirty’s closest confidants, writing him letters of support during his two-year incarceration in upstate New York.

Cardi B Makes History With Grammy Win & Proves That Her Reign Is Legit

On the hit PE song, “Terminator X to the Edge of Panic,” Chuck D barks the question “Who gives a f*ck about a goddamn Grammy?” And we can play that game if we want to….

You can name all the VMAs, AMAs, BET Awards (both the Hip-Hop one or the main one), Billboards and those other shows, but we know which trophy everyone really wants: The golden Grammophone.

Aside from The Source Award (and for that you can hold your horses), The Grammys is the most coveted achievement an artist could ever aspire to claim.

And the 61st Annual Grammy Awards show showed the music loving public, why we give a f*ck.  First because of the diversity that the show (with some pushing) has finally embraced. But secondly, because Hip-Hop and R&B  seemed to paint the predominate complexion of the show. One highlight was Bronx’s darling taking centerstage with a heart stopping performance. Nah… not J. Lo.

Cardi B rocked her performance of her chart topping single, “Money” and basically showed the world that her reign as the Queen of Hip-Hop is legit. While that could have been enough for Bardi Gang, The Grammys honored Kulture’s mom with one of the highest awards for rap music.

Cardi B won Best Rap Album, Invasion of Privacy.

As she accepted her award she started her emotional speech with a huge “Whew, chile….” trembling with joy. What made the most impact was that she stepped to the stage with her husband Offset beside her.

She should have been shaking. No woman had ever accomplished this in history.  Cardi is now the first solo female rap artist to win Best Rap Album. Lauryn Hill became the first female artist to win this award, but her win was with The Fugees, not as a solo artist.
