Hip-Hop Halloween: 10 Last Minute Rap and R&B-Themed Costume Ideas

Halloween is one of the most exciting holidays of the year, giving those who celebrate a chance to be someone (or something!) completely out of the ordinary. While witches, warlocks, vampires and superheroes are some of the top faves when it comes to selecting a costume, dressing up as your favorite rapper or singer will never get old. That’s why we were thrilled to see that Tyler, The Creator recently revealed a set of costumes inspired by an alter ego named IGOR from his latest album of the same name.

Even if you didn’t mind dropping the $230 USD it costs to cop the wig and suit combo seen above, it looks like the IGOR costume is actually sold out at the moment. Dont’t fret, though — we found a few good selections via our friends over at Toynk Toys that will get the job done quicker than you can spit a hot 16. As you’ll probably be hitting up a few Halloween shindigs throughout the week and maybe into the weekend, take a minute to find one or a few suitable suits that are less ghoulish and more on the “G’d up” side.

Dave Chappelle Teaches Will Smith How To Do Standup Comedy (Video)

Will Smith is many things. Actor, MC, humanitarian, father, social media influencer and husband are some of the titles he holds. However, the West Philadelphia, Pennsylvania native says that standup comedy is a fascination of his that gives him fear. Smith’s role on The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air, in film, and on some of his music with DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince has been presented with comedy. However, in a new video, Smith reveals that much of his act is an overcompensation for a personal shyness. The gregarious and romantically charming personalities that Will plays are not a natural extension of the 50-year-old media mogul. “The crazy thing is that I’m more nervous about doing standup than I am bungee-jumping out of a helicopter over the Grand Canyon,” Smith begins in the latest episode of Will Smith’s Bucket List. He says that unlike performing music on stage, if he slips in his vocal delivery, the audience will not bail him out. Will proclaims, “To be able to stand on a stage with a microphone [and nothing else but a crowd] to me, is the hardest thing in entertainment.” Will Smith Explains Why He Turned Down The Lead Role In The Matrix In preparing an act as part of a year-long 50th birthday celebration, Will Smith links with the man he considers “the master” of standup: Dave Chappelle. While providing some tricks of the trade, Dave has allowed The Fresh Prince to open for him, seven days after the two discussed the art of standup. At a Las Vegas hotel, Dave gives Will a checklist of what he feels are the three jewels of the standup trade: 1. Confidence Is Key Chappelle suggests that Will Smith, more than nearly anybody on the planet, has a right to be confident. He adds that he finds him funny and “a great conversationalist,” so this should come naturally. 2. Pick The Right Sh*t To Talk About 3. Be Interesting All The Time Dave says, “The best advice I ever got doin’ comedy was from a comedian that was not particularly that good. The advice was very important to me. He said, ‘You are one of these comedians that thinks you have to be funny all the time. And you don’t. But you do have to be interesting all the time.” Weaving the principles together, Dave suggests, “Look at it like you’re having a conversation with no rebuttal. They’re talking back with their laughter, or in many cases—my case—their disapproval.” He continues, “But especially someone of your stature, if they can feel you, they’ll never forget you.” Dave adds that embarrassing revelations make standup comedians, especially celebrities, more relatable to the audience. He says that in addition to common ground, the humility helps members of the audience forgive themselves for the same things that the comedian admits to doing or feeling. A Short Film Shows What The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air Would Look Like In 2019 Preparing for his debut, Will Smith admits, “I think I’ve earned the right for gigantic public failure.” The Hollywood superstar’s career has been one marked by victory, not defeat. However, later in the nearly half-hour video, Smith reveals that he has guards, including the need for approval and the fear of people supporting him based on his celebrity. At lunch, Dave’s Chappelle’s Show partner, Neal Brennan, suggests Will share with the audience his bucket list reason for doing standup. The producer and co-writer of the show has several Netflix specials, like Dave. Q-Tip calls Dave and soon joins the affair. Will Smith Gives 1 Of His Realest Interviews. He Says He’s Finally Being Authentic (Video) After returning to California, Will takes lessons from other comedians. Rell Battle suggests that Smith pull material from his family, all of whom are public figures, to break some new terrain. Will’s Fresh Prince co-star, Alfonso Ribeiro, also joins his friend to prep. “Every time I confront a fear, I feel more free,” Smith says, after explaining how his TV character helped him unlock courage and courtship with women during his maturity. Will Smith Reminds Jaden Who The FIRST Icon In The Family Was With A New Freestyle (Video) Ahead of the big night, Dave Chappelle tells Will Smith, “fear is good for comedy” as the two have drinks at Chateau Marmont before the show. “You’re a big star. If you look anybody directly in the eyes, they might look away. That’s the power of celebrity. And you’re a good dude; you don’t put on any airs, you’re just like f*ck it. Being a good dude in comedy, that’s rare; comics are assholes.” Moments later, Dave admits that when Eddie Murphy attends his shows, he gets nervous. He feels as though Murphy is better than him at the art. The video concludes with Smith’s standup appearance at The Peppermint Club in L.A. near the 15:00 mark. Jada Pinkett-Smith, Willow Smith, and other members of the family are in the audience. In his act, he references hopping onto Jaden Smith’s “Icon (Remix)” without his son’s permission, and schooling the rapper on who in the family did it first. See Jada Pinkett Call Out Eazy-E For Misogyny In His Music The First Time They Met (Video) In the closing sequence, Will is seen freestyling besides Dave, with John Mayer on guitar. This week, Chappelle was in the news for joking remarks he made on Mayer’s live video, aimed at fellow guest, singer Daniel Caesar.

A Short Film Shows A 2019 Version Of The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air (Video)

Next year, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air turns 30 years old. It’s been nearly three decades since Will Smith introduced America to a fictionalized version of himself, playing a West Philadelphia-native who gets relocated to Bel Air, California to stay out of trouble and live with his extended family. During the show’s six-season run, audiences laughed, cried, and fell in love with characters like Alfonso Ribeiro’s “Carlton Banks,” and James Avery as “Uncle Phil.” Although it is now 2019, the sitcom’s influence, humor, and style still bleed throughout most mass media. However, one fan-made film begs the question: If The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air were to debut in today’s climate, how would that feel? Sun Squared Media steps up to the plate to answer, as writer, director, and cinematographer Morgan Cooper, along with actor Jerry Madison who plays “Will Smith,” re-imagines the sitcom as a gritty, mature comedy-drama simply titled Bel-Air. DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince’s Vintage Freestyle Is An MC & DJ Hallmark (Audio) Cinematic music choice aside, this Bel-Air re-imagining captures a direction and tone similar to FX’ Atlanta. After a scuffle on the basketball court, “Will” gets caught with a gun by the local police, and is sent to live in Bel Air with his “Uncle Phil” to clean up and stay out of trouble. Viewers are given a glimpse of newness as “Will’s” character stands outside the mansion gates, coolly wearing a “What Would Meek Do?” hoodie. We’re introduced to all sorts of drama, showing scenes with “Carlton,” a supportive “Aunt Vivian,” and a slick “Jazz,” who meets our main character at a record store. Fan-made film or not, a gritty Bel-Air reboot might have something we’ve needed for a long time.

Will Smith Explains Why He Turned Down The “Neo” Role In The Matrix

In the closing days of 1999, much of the globe was weary about the potential hazards of Y2K. The technological scare was real, as valid experts, computer experts, and programmers clamored with the fear that all computerized machines would stop working at the end of December 31, 1999. This widespread panic of potentially catastrophic events was the perfect storm for two talented writer/filmmakers, The Wachowskis, Lana and Lilly. On March 31, 1999, their Sci-Fi/Action film, The Matrix, was released to theaters. At a time when machines were thought to be potentially responsible for a crumbling society, the film starring Keanu Reeves and Laurence Fishburne about a futuristic simulated reality was full of symbolism. Will Smith Gives 1 Of His Realest Interviews. He Says He’s Finally Being Authentic (Video) The Matrix, which morphed into a trilogy of movies followed by, The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions, would go on to gross over $460 million worldwide and win four Oscar awards. The franchise put plot points and language into the global lexicon. It also introduced legions of viewers to some of the best filmmaking in the Sci-Fi canon. For an actor who had already starred in several major films, it offered a benchmark role for Keanu Reeves, who played “Neo.” However, part of the reason that the actor from Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, Speed, and Point Break may have gotten the role, is because Will Smith turned down some very serious interest. For his “Storytime” video series, Will Smith explains his reasoning for declining. Smith was on a career winning streak in ’96. Smith’s name found its way onto many people’s tongues in both TV and film for his role in NBC’s The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air, and smash movies like Bad Boys and Independence Day. Smith explains, “That was a crazy time in my life. It was like however I threw the ball, it was going in.” Will Smith Reacts To The 65′ Mural Of Him Made For A West Philadelphia School (Video) His fame accrued Smith a lot of attention, and as a result, he was turning down future blockbusters left and right. “I had done Independence Day the year before. So I was like I don’t want to do another alien movie. I don’t want to be the alien movie guy. So, I turned down Men In Black.” But not everyone in his circle agreed with his decisions. Smith digresses, “And Steven Spielberg called me. He was producing. He said, ‘Why you turning down the movie?” I was like, ‘You know, I don’t wanna be the alien guy.’ He said, ‘Um, do me a favor. Don’t use your brain for this one. Use my brain.’ He was so serious, that I was like, ‘Aight, he did do Jaws.’ For those who feel like such an incredibly popular, big-budget film like The Matrix would be difficult to turn down, Smith explains his reasoning. But, he’s not exactly happy about it. Will continues, “[You know] when you get that universal energy and nothing can go wrong. Then the other side comes, and you can’t do nothin’ right.” Will Smith Reminds Jaden Who The FIRST Icon In The Family Was With A New Freestyle (Video) After reluctantly making Men In Black, which became a nearly $600 million hit in its own right, the Wachowski brothers came to Smith in 1998 to pitch him for the role of Neo. Smith expounds, “They came in, and they made a pitch for The Matrix, and as it turns out, they’re geniuses. But, there’s a fine line in a pitch meeting between ‘genius’ and what I experienced in the meeting.” Will then goes on to explain the Wachowski’s stereotypical “surfer dude”-stylized speech. Acting as if he were one of the [Wachowski’s], Smith delivers in jest, “‘So dude, we’re thinking, like, like imagine you’re in a fight and then you, like, jump. Imagine if you could stop jumping, in the middle of the jump… But then, people could see around you, 360 [degrees], while you’re stopped jumping. Right? And then, we’re going to invent these cameras. And then, people can see the whole jump while you’re stopped in the middle of the jump.'” Smith finishes his story with precision comedic timing, “So I made Wild Wild West; I’m not proud of it.” Despite its #1 theme song with Kool Moe Dee and Dru Hill, that film did not have nearly the impact of The Matrix. Will Smith Says “The Beast Is Back” & Rips A New Freestyle (Video) The Fresh Prince keeps up the comedy, later revealing who else was going to star beside him in the film before he turned it down. “Keanu was perfect. Laurence Fishburne was perfect. If I had done it, because I’m Black, then ‘Morpheus’ wouldn’t have been Black, ’cause they was [also] looking at Val Kilmer. Val Kilmer was gonna be ‘Morpheus.’ So, I probably would’ve messed The Matrix up. I would’ve ruined it. So, I did y’all a favor.” Will Smith is coming up on a big year in 2019. This year, he will be featured in three films, including Disney’s reboot of Aladdin, the animated spy comedy, Spies In Disguise, and yet another Sci-Fi film with Ang Lee’s, Gemini Man. Smith is also in production for Bad Boys for Life, the third film in the buddy-cop comedy series alongside castmate Martin Lawrence.

Air Jordan 5 “Fresh Prince” Drops Sept. 25 [Photos]

The Air Jordan 5 dropped in 1990 and quickly became a coveted sneaker. But there’s no doubt Will Smith rocking a pair in the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air took the demand and love for the shoe to the next level.

Now in 2018, the shoe returns in the “Grape” colorway the West Philadelphia rapper turned actor rocked, with some new details that pay homage to beloved sitcom.

This version of the Air Jordan 5 doesn’t have any laces and “West Philadelphia is embossed just below the shoe’s tongue. The sockliner is striped, a nod to the shirts he rocked on the show. On the heel is the OG Nike Air branding that Jordan heads always crave on their Retros.
