‘Tha Carter V’ and ‘Queen’ Certified Platinum on Same Day

Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj prove that Young Money/Cash Money Business is still alive and well. The Cash Money business side has been settled for Wayne making 2018 indeed a winning year.

Young Money’s first lady Nicki Minaj came out strong with the release of Queen and then we finally received Tha Carter V a month later. Perhaps two of the most highly anticipated albums of 2018s have added another platinum album to the artist’s laundry list of accomplishments. Making the feat all the more special, both albums were certified platinum by the RIAA on Friday, January 11, 2018.

A lucrative coincidence, to say the least, the Young Money year was kicked off with Drake’s uber-successful Scorpion album.

It is refreshing to see Lil Wayne return to the top of the Billboard charts. In fact, Tha Carter V  marks his fourth album to top the Billboard 200 chart.

Furthermore, its safe to say that his fallout with Birdman helped fuel the demand for his album. On-demand streams propelled the album to the third biggest album sales week of 2018. The high demand was reflected in the first week as the also had the second the second biggest streaming week in history, behind Drake.

Meanwhile, Ms. Minaj’s Queen debuted at number two on the Billboard chart behind Travis Scott’s Astroworld.

As Weezy once said, “its Y-M. And we at ya neck like a violin.”

Lil Wayne To Perform On ‘Saturday Night Live’

There is definitely more life after Cash Money Records. Lil Wayne has been confirmed as a musical performer for Saturday Night Live.

Weezy will hit the 30 Rockefeller stage on November 10. This makes him the third Hip-Hop artist, after Kanye West and Travis Scott, to do a live set on the 44th season of the iconic variety show. Liev Schreiber, of Ray Donavan fame, will also make his hosting debut. An official announcement was made on SNL’s twitter account earlier this week.

This marks the first time since 2010 that Weezy has performed on the show. The previous set, where he performed “6 Foot 7 Foot,” was shortly after he was freed after serving time in prison for gun possession. Expect TuneChi to perform songs from his long-delayed but finally released Tha Carter V.

The album debuted number one on the Billboard 200 charts with 480,000 album equivalent sales. At the close of October it has sold over 700,000 units to date.

Earlier this month, buzz developed about Wayne putting his “Uproar” video into production.

While the majority of the video shoot took place in the Big Apple, Weezy and crew did travel to New Orleans to shoot additional scenes in front of his mural in Hollygrove (his hometown). He also had dancers doing the #UproarChallenge on a track at Harrell Stadium. (Hip Hop Since 1987)

Recently, Wayne treated fans to an “Uproar” live set during a televised halftime performance.

Eminem, Lil Wayne, Logic, Hilltop Hoods and Thundamentals Dominating Album Charts in Australia

Strong album debuts on the Australian Urban Album Chart by both Lil Wayne and Logic were not enough to knock Eminem’s Kamikaze off the top spot, which he has occupied since debuting their five weeks ago. Tha Carter V debuted at #2, just ahead of Logic’s YSIV at #3 and represents a re-entry for both of them into the Australian charts. Wayne also has six songs from Tha Carter V currently in the Single Charts, a feat only matched by Eminem and Drake.

Eminem continues to reign supreme, with a further four albums on this Top 40 Album chart demonstrating his continued longevity down under. His 2002 classic The Eminem Show is the highest selling Hip-Hop album ever in Australia, being one of the only rap albums to achieve Diamond certification locally as well. The Eminem Show is the highest selling hip-hop album worldwide with over 27 million units sold, ahead of his The Marshall Mathers LP album at 21+ million copies sold since 2000. Eminem also has the two top-selling hip-hop albums of all-time in America with these two landmark releases as well.

On the domestic front, Thundamentals remain in the top 30 after their new fifth studio album “I Love Songs” debuted impressively at #5 last week and features the talents of Eves Karydas and the rising superstar that is Adrian Eagle. With ten years deep in the game now, Thundamentals continue to hit their stride and show no signs of slowing up with an ongoing packed touring schedule that has helped them develop such a wide fan base.

Australia’s hip-hop kings Hilltop Hoods also remain in the top 30 with solid sales of their latest Platinum-certified album release Drinking From The Sun, Walking Under Stars Restrung continuing despite being on the album charts for over the last two and a half years – a testament to the legacy they have built for themselves over the years.

Lil Wayne Concert Ends After Fan Screams “Shots Fired”

Lil Wayne

Grammy-winning rapper Lil Wayne had some pretty concerned fans at last night’s A3C Festival show. New reports claim concertgoers ditched his performance after panic developed about a shooting going down during his set.

According to reports, the craziness went down Sunday (October 7) evening in Atlanta but there’s no evidence of real gunfire happening.

Wayne was onstage performing at the Georgia Freight Depot during the second day of the A3C Festival when someone claimed to have heard the shots. There was immediate panic as people ran to exit the area. Several people were trampled during the stampede. In all, about a dozen people suffered minor injuries. Cops say there was no evidence of shots fired. (TMZ)

Last week, Young Money president Mack Maine announced Wayne’s Tha Carter V is officially gold.

Recently, Chicago’s Chance The Rapper geeked out over Wayne’s new album.

“I’m about to have my own private listening session to C5. I just gotta say, man, thank-you Lil Wayne ’cause beyond the fact you got me my first ever number one record, first ever Grammy, you taught me so much sh*t from far away. I just want to say thank-you for dropping that sh*t. Thank-you for reclaiming your sh*t and man, I’m ready to hear that sh*t yo. I had to kick everyone out the d*mn studio so I could really take this sh*t in.”

To celebrate his new release, Weezy released a limited edition line of Carter V-inspired apparel.

Lil Wayne has announced the final collaborative merch item around his latest album Tha Carter V. Weezy has partnered with the Advisory Board Crystals brand and Wikipedia for a new long-sleeve shirt that features various screen-printed graphics in a “visual representation” of his Wikipedia page. (The collaboration isn’t apropos of nothing: In the announcement video for Tha Carter V, Wayne proclaimed, “Wiki me bish.”) Advisory Board Crystals is set to donate a portion of their profits to the Wikimedia Foundation. Lil Wayne’s ‘Tha Carter V’ Tops Billboard 200 Chart with 480K Debut

The numbers are in and Lil Wayne is officially at the top of the Billboard 200. Tha Carter V holds down the top spot with a very impressive 480,000 units moved in the first week. Marking the album as the third highest grossing album of 2018, just behind Drake and Travis Scott.

Weezy F. Baby’s positioning at the top of the charts also logs him with the second most successful debut in the streaming era, only behind his protege Drake who took over the record earlier this year with Scorpion.

C5 is followed by Logic on the chart, whose YSIV album came in second place in its opening week.

The success of Tha Carter V will likely continue forth as “Uproar” is gaining legs behind a social media challenge and fans continue to herald it as one of the top releases of the year.

Unfortunately for fans, Wayne’s first appearances since the album dropped was cut short. However, there will be an opportunity to see the Young Money CEO in the future.
