Ancestry and Spotify Unite to Create Playlists Inspired by Your Origins

If you are curious about your family history and choose Ancestry to learn about it, you will soon be able to merge your DNA with music. Ancestry and Spotify are working together to curate playlists that are a mix of your personal favorites, currently popular and music that ties into your personal ancestry.

“It’s so much more than the stats and the data and the records. How do we help people experience their culture and not just read about it? Music seemed like an obvious way to do that,” Vineet Mehra, Ancestry’s Executive Vice president said.

Ancestry seeks to share the sound of your background and creating a more complete story. Ancestry boasts the ability to trace your origins to over 350 worldwide regions and possible meeting new family members that you can now enjoy music with. Check out all the details here.

Fortnite fans that own either the Galaxy Note 9 or Galaxy Tab S4, Samsung has a special contest just for you. 

Ever dreamed of playing Fortnite with Twitch legend Tyler “Ninja” Blevins here is your chance. All you have to do is share user-generated photos and clips of yourself playing the game using the super elite Galaxy skin on Twitter and Instagram using #NinjaGalaxySquad and #Contest hashtags.

One grand prize winner will join Ninja and Travis Scott who was revealed yesterday as one of the squad members. On top of playing alongside those two, the winner will receive the ultimate cross-platform gamer pack. Radio Company Sirius XM Acquires Pandora for $3.5 Billion

SiriusXM has purchased Pandora and all of its stock in a deal that is valued at $3.5 billion. Variety reports both companies announced the sale Monday morning. The acquisition of Pandora by Sirius will make the company the world’s largest audio entertainment company. They are projected to bring in more than $7 billion in revenue this year.

June 2018 marked the initial investment in Pandora by SiriusXM after a $480 million investment that provided a 19% stake, however, they did not have the clearance to take over the company without permission from the board of directors at Pandora. That has now changed as the board of directors at SiriusXM and Pandora have agreed.

“We have long respected Pandora and their team for their popular consumer offering that has attracted a massive audience, and have been impressed by Pandora’s strategic progress and stronger execution,” said Jim Meyer, Chief Executive Officer of SiriusXM. We believe there are significant opportunities to create value for both companies’ stockholders by combining our complementary businesses.”

The move will allow the company to do cross-promotion across each side’s subscribers, creating exclusive content, creating a platform for artists and more.

Spotify Will Allow Artists To Upload Their Music Directly

Spotify is making it easier for an independent artist to get their music to massive with it’s newest functionality feature.

Thursday (Sept.20), the streaming giant announced they are now beta-testing a new feature that will allow artists to upload their own music to the service. Traditionally they would have to utilize third-party companies to get their music uploaded on the platform.

Via Spotify:

“You’ll be able to deliver music straight to Spotify and plan for the perfect release day. You’ll see a preview of exactly how things will appear to listeners before you hit submit. And even after your music goes live, you’ll be in full control of your metadata with simple and quick edits.”

“Just like releasing through any other partner, you’ll get paid when fans stream your music on Spotify. Your recording royalties will hit your bank account automatically each month, and you’ll see a clear report of how much your streams are earning right next to the other insights you already get from Spotify for Artists. Uploading is free to all artists, and Spotify doesn’t charge you any fees or commissions no matter how frequently you release music.”

Spotify also noted the new feature has already been used by a handful of independent artists and labels such as NoName, Michael Brun, VIAA and Hot Shade. This is indeed a big deal, cutting out the middle-man may rub third-party companies like Tunecore, Distrokid, Stem the wrong way but this will definitely help put more money in independent musicians pockets.

So now artists literally * Jay-Z’s voice* can put themselves on and don’t need to rely so heavily on co-signs. Does this also mean struggle artist will stop harassing us on the streets and during our daily commutes? We hope so, we really hope so.

‘Marvel’s Spider-Man’ Swings Past ‘God of War’, Now PS4’s Fastest-Selling Video Game

It’s a good year to be Sony and to also own a PlayStation 4.  God of War’s reign at the top as the console’s fastest-selling game was shorter than leprechauns thanks to Spider-Man.

Marvel’s dominance is not only being felt on the big screen in the but the video game realm as well. Variety reports that Insomniac’s Spider-Man game is now wearing the crown as the consoles quickest selling game by 3.3 million units in first 3 days eclipsing God of War’s 3.1 million units easily.

To put in perspective how much money the game pulled in since it’s release, it has surpassed Spider-Man: Homecoming’s $117 million opening weekend at the box office by bringing in roughly a staggering $198 million. The game also broke Sony’s record for preorders with a million spidey fans securing their copy of the game early. Oh, and Sony does count the $399.99 Spider-Man PS4 Pro Bundle in the total but has not revealed exactly how many of them were sold. So that total could be even higher once they eventually share that information.

Speaking to USA Today, PlayStation’s global senior vice president of sales and head of North America business operations, Stephen Turvey added:

“Our expectations are always set at the highest levels. It’s met and exceeded all expectations. I think the company and the campus and our fans are super proud of it.”

Marvel’s Spider-Man is the web crawlers latest solo video game adventure since 2014’s Amazing Spider-Man 2 which was based on the lackluster film of the same game. Like the movie, the game was critically panned and might have been the reason for his long absence.

Insomniac managed to put together a very authentic Spider-Man experience, and chances are you have seen a photo share from the game grace your timeline. The game is being very well received and is currently holding an 87 rating from 102 reviews on Metacritic.  Take our word for we can’t turn the game off our damn selves, so if you haven’t secured yourself a copy make it your business to add this game to your collection NOW.

No price has been announced as of yet, but that info should be revealed very soon ahead of speakers possible Oct/Nov release. COTODOMA’s other lyric speaker model which made Billboard’s 2017 wishlist cost $4,500 which is pricey, we don’t expect the canvas lyric speaker to hit that price point. We are just about a month and a few days from the global launch of Rockstar Games epic western Red Redemption 2. Today the game studio announced the forthcoming game will have its own online component as well.

Just like Grand Theft Auto V, Red Dead Redemption 2’s experience will be expanded with a massive online multiplayer experience with Red Dead Online. The online mode will be an “evolution” of the previous Red Dead Redemption game’s multiplayer mode.

Utilizing Red Dead Redemption 2’s gameplay as a foundation, players will be able to traverse the games massive open world either alone or with friends if you so choose as well as competitive and cooperative gameplay experiences. Players can also look forward to constant updates and features that will keep the online experience fresh for all players.

Rockstar also revealed that Red Dead Online will not launch alongside Red Dead Redemption 2’s single player game but will arrive separately in November in beta mode and for a good reason. The studio seemingly learned from the rocky launch of GTA V’s multiplayer mode Grand Theft Auto Online that was riddled with problems from the jump. They also want to allow players to be wholly acclimated with the game’s controls before Red Dead Online arrives.

When asked by IGN about Red Dead Online’s absence on launch day Imran Sarwar, Director of Design at Rockstar North stated:

“Also, as we have learned from experience when launching Online games at this scale, there are bound to be a few issues, and we want to ensure that we have time to gradually roll out the game and make the experience as smooth as we possibly can for everyone. We believe this way of rolling out will give people the best overall experiences with both single player and multiplayer.”

We can’t wait and if Red Dead Online is anything like GTA Online you can expect it to give the game a very long life. Red Dead Redemption 2 arrives on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 October 26, 2018, the online mode will be free to anyone with a copy of the game on any system.

Sony to Release ‘PlayStation Classic’ During Upcoming Holiday Season

This holiday season Sony Computer Entertainment will be rolling out a new-ish console. The original PlayStation will make a return under the name PlayStation Classic.

The new PlayStation will be 45% smaller than the original and will come with classic games that throwback gamers miss. 20 games, like Tekken 3, Final Fantasy VII, and Ridge Racer Type 4, will be preloaded into the system.

The new PlayStation Classic will become available on December 3, 2018, for a cost of $99.99. Included with purchase are a USB cable and a pair of controllers. Peep the announcement below.

America’s most revered fashion brand is finally stepping into the digital age. The Polo Ralph Lauren app is here.

As an additional layer to their year-long 50th anniversary celebration the house that Ralphie built is going mobile. The new platform will allow consumers to not only purchase apparel but also embed themselves deeper into the RL lifestyle.

“This is a shoppable app, but that’s not really what it’s about,” says David Lauren, Chief Innovation Officer. “Our goal here is to create a culture and community that we’re a part of, where we can speak to our customers and learn from them.”

Subscribers will be privy to exclusive content, collection previews, rare pieces, vote on designs and an “Ask Ralph” section where the man himself will answer fan’s questions every week. In the coming months other features will be added including a forum where Ralph Lauren wears can be traded amongst users.

“There are so many people who have been buying, trading and selling Ralph Lauren, that we thought it would be interesting to create something that united this community, so that they could meet each other and learn about other collectors” Lauren detailed.

Along with the app the company announced a New York Yankees inspired collection. The limited-edition line will include a satin baseball jacket, a New Era “RL 50” hat, a Wilson baseball glove and a branded Rawlings baseball.

As a longtime Yankees fan Ralph Lauren will throw out the first pitch during the Yankees and Boston Red Sox game on Thursday, September 20. The collection will be available soon after on the Polo App.

Sony PlayStation Classic Mini Console Drops In December

Nintendo’s success with their mini consoles is definitely having an effect on the video game world. First Sega announced its Mega Drive (Genesis) mini, and now Sony is throwing its name in the hat with the PlayStation Classic Mini Console.

Its been almost 25 years since the groundbreaking home console, the PlayStation was first introduced to the world. The console was an instant hit with gamers eventually becoming the first console to ship over 100 million units offering for the first time the chance to play 32-bit games with real-time 3D rendered graphics in the comfort of their homes.

If you are one of those gamers who wanted to get that feeling again of pressing that power button and seeing the iconic load up screen Sony has good news for you. Today the company announced its new retro console, the PlayStation Classic and it’s gorgeous. The console perfectly emulates the original and is approximately 45% smaller than the original PlayStation console. It also comes with two classic controllers, an HDMI cable to connect with today’s televisions, USB cable. Don’t worry no physical memory cards will be necessary, the system will have a virtual memory card to save your game data.

As far as what games will come with the system, it will come pre-loaded with 20 classic PlayStation games, fan-favorites such as Final Fantasy VIIJumping FlashRidge Racer Type 4Tekken 3, and Wild Arms is among classic titles that will return with the retro console.

The PlayStation Classic will launch on December 3rd, 2018, the same day the original console hit shelves in Japan back in 1994. As far as cost, it will only run you $99.99 and is now available for pre-order at select retailers such as GameStop and Best Buy. So you better move fast cause you know this bad boy is going to sell out quickly. We just hope Sony handles this release a bit better unlike Nintendo when they first introduced the NES Classic.
