HHW Tech Review: Samsung x AKG’s N700NC Wireless Headphones

Back in September, Samsung made the announcement it was linking up with AKG and throwing its name in the premium headphone market with three new models. We got our hands on a pair of the N700NC the premium model out of the three and put them to the test to see if they hold up to the popular models from the likes of Bose, Beats By Dre and Sony.

The headphone market is a crowded one where you would be hard-pressed to convince folks to ditch well-established brands in the game. Samsung makes a solid case with their new premium headphones the N700NC.

PROS

Ambient Noise-Canceling

While Sony’s WH-1000XM2 boast impressive noise-canceling technology thanks to its sense engine, Samsung’s N700NC is no slouch in that department. With the press of a button located right next to the headphone’s power switch, you can seamlessly control how much noise you want to let in thanks to the Ambient Aware option which will allow you to be alert and still enjoy your music at the same time.

With the AKG companion app, you can also switch from Ambient Aware to Talk Thru mode by assigning the feature to the button. Once activated it will allow you to conduct conversations with people around you by silencing the headphones without you having to take them off. We were very impressed at how effortlessly the headphones filtered out sounds both modes.

Comfort

The N700NC’s are very comfortable thanks to the memory foam headphone cushions. If you are worried about the foam eventually peeling from wear Samsung assured that will not be the case with their headphones thanks to the quality leather used.

Sporting a very sleek design, the N700NC is very light once you put them on and if you are one of those people who workout while wearing over the ear headphone models these will suit you perfectly well in the gym.

Battery Life

Right out of the box the N700NC worked for 3 days without a charge at that was at 30% battery life. With a full battery, you do get up to 20 hours of use without having to worry about plugging them into recharge. Also, thanks to the auto-off option via the app which will power down the headphones if no music is being played for 10 minutes you will save plenty of battery power. This was a very convenient option for myself because I always tend to forget to power down my headphones.

CONS

Limitations

Review: Samsung x AKG's N700NC Wireless Headphones

Now our only complaint would be some limitations when it came to the app. The N700NC headphones were designed for those who know a thing or two about studio sound. In the app, you can customize your own EQ settings so you can hear your music the way you want. BUT I wished some preinstalled settings were included for those who don’t want to go through precisely adjusting the equalizer.

Final Verdict

For $350 you’re getting a great pair of headphones and plenty bang for your buck. Samsung x AKG is definitely onto something here with its line of headphones, and even the mid-range models are pretty good. Again our only complaint about the EQ function not having preinstalled equalizer presets could be easily rectified with an update to the app.

If you’re in the market for a pair of premium headphones, you can’t go wrong with the N700NC. Definitely a solid first entry for Samsung and AKG.

Rockstar Games Drops ‘Red Dead Redemption 2’ Launch Trailer, Confirms Xbox One & PS4 Download Sizes

Red Dead Redemption 2

Source: Rockstar Games / Red Dead Redemption 2

We are literally just days away from the launch of Red Dead Redemption 2, and today we are getting one last final look at the highly anticipated game as well as just how much space it will take up on your consoles.

That’s right cowboys and cowgirls it’s almost time to saddle up and traverse what’s left of the Wild, Wild West that Rockstar Games created for the highly anticipated sequel. In the launch trailer, we see the games main protagonist Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang doing what they do best which is rob, steal and fight while avoiding federal agents and bounty hunters. We also get a glimpse of Arthur taking on some of the local wildlife as well in the 1:00 clip.

If you need a brief summary here is the official synopsis via Rockstar Games:

“America, 1899. The end of the Wild West era has begun. After a robbery goes badly wrong in the western town of Blackwater, Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang are forced to flee. With federal agents and the best bounty hunters in the nation massing on their heels, the gang must rob, steal and fight their way across the rugged heartland of America in order to survive. As deepening internal divisions threaten to tear the gang apart, Arthur must make a choice between his own ideals and loyalty to the gang who raised him.”

Sounds like a lit showdown is coming. Now if you’re wondering exactly how much space you will need to have on your console to install the game its a pretty sizable amount. Physical copies of the Red Dead Redemption 2 will require 99GB on PlayStation 4 and 107GB space on Xbox One. Digital copies will need an additional 50GB of space after the 99GB installation on PS4 and 107GB again on Xbox One.

So you still have some time to beat those games on you currently have installed that you know you won’t be playing once you complete them. In the meantime, you can check out the launch trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2 below.

Kyle Kuzma Partners With Sneaker Reselling Company GOAT

Kyle Kuzma Will Partner With Sneaker Reselling Company GOAT

Source: Gene Sweeney Jr. / Getty

The kicks that grace NBA courts are just as important as the basketballs that bounce on them. Players are known for signing lucrative sneaker deals with companies or in the rare case of Lonzo Ball start your own company. Kyle Kuzma took things to another level by partnering with an actual sneaker marketplace.

Yesterday (Oct 18), GOAT announced its partnership with the budding Los Angeles Lakers forward making him their official brand ambassador. The announcement is a first between a current NBA player and a sneaker reselling company. As part of Kuzma’s ambassadorship, he will rock “rare and highly-coveted Nike sneakers” on and off the court.

The hope is by seeing the sneakers on the court it will drive sneakerheads to either GOAT’s app or website where they can purchase current and rare sneakers or as we like to call them grails. The company which is based out of Los Angeles boasts an impressive collection of 75,000 pairs extraordinary footwear finds.

This latest deal is one of many already made by the young NBA star. He currently has a working relationship with Nike and announced back in June a partnership with Humbyl Coin, a cryptocurrency that is geared towards fantasy sports. Kyle definitely is finding ways to expand his coins beyond the game of basketball and should be commended for it. It also will help he has one of the best business minds in sports in LeBron James on his team as so he can definitely pick his brain for more advice.

MTV’s ‘The Real World’ Will Be Getting An Interactive Makeover On FaceBook Watch

MTV & FaceBook Launching A "Reimagined" Version of 'The Real World'

Source: Portland Press Herald / Getty

MTV’s groundbreaking reality show The Real World will be making a coming back, but things are going to differ on a much grander and interactive scale this time around.

MTV is helping FaceBook build a stronger presence in the original video content arena by bringing its popular reality show The Real World to the social media giants video hub FaceBook Watch exclusively in 2019. This time around though things will be much different, the show will be “reimagined” and will be produced in the United States, Mexico, and Thailand.

The new Real World will also be more interactive giving watchers the ability to shape the show by allowing them to chose cast members as well and interact with housemates using FaceBook’s video tools like Watch Party, Premieres and Live.

Chris McCarthy, President of MTV, had this to say about the new Real World:

“MTV’s The Real World helped to define a generation and created a new genre of television with a simple yet powerful idea of connecting people from wildly divergent backgrounds to find common ground on the issues that often divided them. By partnering with Facebook Watch and BMP [the production company], we have the opportunity to impact culture and create a new genre of television all over again, while engaging the next generation of content consumers around the world.”

Sounds like a unique way to breath life into a famed reality show franchise. MTV and FaceBook Watch might be onto something here. You can check out the sneak peek for the “reimagined” version of The Real World below.

Palm’s Tiny New Device Aims To Help You Put Down Your Smartphone

Palm's Tiny New Device Aims To Help You Put Down Your Smartphone

Source: Palm / Palm

Palm the brand behind PDA’s (personal data assistants) that were all the rage in the 90s is back from the dead. The company unveiled its tiny new assistant to the world.

Yesterday (Oct 15) the company announced its new small device that in essence acts as a phone but it’s not a phone. Head scratching right? Well, Palm’s new assistant is just that an assistant to help ween you away from your larger smartphone. It will pair with your phone just like your smartwatch does and Palm is hoping people will instead choose the smaller handset which is about the size of a credit card over their favorite wearable.

Instead of straining your eyes staring at your smartwatch, you get a much a larger 3.3-inch touchscreen. It’s IP68-rated water- and dust-resistant and has 2GB of storage, an 800mAh battery, 3GB of RAM, runs Android 8.1 that grants users access to all apps in the Google Play store and of course a camera.

It features one USB-C port for charging and headphones and is equipped with Bluetooth 4.2 low energy. Oh, and Palm promises it will last all day too if you put in Life Mode which silences the phones notifications and incoming calls. The Palm will also sync with iOS devices but can’t run iOS-only apps so that might scare some Apple aficionados from away the Palm.

Right out of the gate Palm has a big face trying to sell you on the new device, and it’s none other than the unanimous MVP and NBA champion Steph Curry who is also an advisor and investor with the brand.

Palm’s new device will be exclusively sold by Verizon and will cost $349 on top of adding an additional $10 to your phone bill. Once signed up the devices LTE cellular radio will be activated and will be synced to the primary device receiving all of its calls and messages.

Sounds like a good idea, but newer Apple and Samsung devices already have functions to help limit your smartphone use. But who knows maybe people will gravitate towards The Palm.

Easy Fix: Sony Addresses Messaging Bug, Says It Has Resolved Issue

Sony Addresses Messaging Bug, Says It Has Resolved Issue

Source: SOPA Images / Getty

Sony basically quelled all PlayStation 4 owners fears today about a messaging bug that was allegedly “bricking” consoles.

We have been waiting for the company to address the issue and they did so via their PlayStation UK Twitter account. In the Tweet reply, the company informed worried PS4 owners that it “fixed the issue” and that the bug wasn’t bricking consoles but just “sending them into a crash loop” that could be “quickly fixed in under 5 minutes.”

What also stands out is the fact Sony addressed the issue without having to send out an update or firmware patch. So that basically means it was something on their end that had to be corrected. Definitely good news but this is definitely a good reason to keep your guard while gaming and making it your business to download the PlayStation App. Also, continue to play it safe by keeping your messaging privacy settings on “friends only” just in case.

Sony has yet to issue an official statement which could be taken as an indication to just how worried the company was about the messaging bug or if that they were already well aware of the bug and were on the job.

Hack Using PS4’s Messaging System Allegedly Will Brick Your Console

Hack Using PS4's Messaging System Allegedly Will Brick Your Console

Source: SOPA Images / Getty

These nerds are seriously bored. Over the weekend PlayStation 4 owners are saying a text-message based hack is bricking their consoles forcing them to do a factory reset.

Sony has yet to confirm or comment on the hack, but many have stated that they were victims. Gamers have taken to a PS4 subreddit claiming they were hit and are describing the same effects. The hack stems from a message that contains a string of characters that literally shuts down their consoles.

If you are worried about the hack and you should be, there is a way to combat it. You could either manage your messaging preferences from a web browser or check incoming messages via the PlayStation iOS or Android app which is considered the best way to be safe. You can also just handle it via your console by going into the Account Management tab, then the Privacy Settings tab. You either can switch your messaging preferences to either only friends or just turn them off completely.

As for possibly how it all started, a user stated atop the subreddit threat used the attack against everyone on his team except for one person who happened to have his messaging on private. So basically this sounds like it stemmed from a disgruntled gamer who can’t handle losses very well.

Regardless we hope Sony is indeed paying attention to this and working on some sort of patch to combat this hack because it is very worrisome.

Sign O’ The Times: Sears On Life Support, Files For Chapter 11 Bankruptcy

Sears lines up emergency financing due to potential bankruptcy

Source: VIEW press / Getty

Before there was Amazon, there was Sears, which was the blueprint for the business model Jeff Bezos is benefitting greatly from. Ironically, the iconic retail chain is now on life support thanks to the booming E-commerce business it paved the way for.

Sears has entered voluntary Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings after a decade of struggling. To reduce its debt, the US retailer plans to close up to 150 stores with the hope that move will help the company make it through the holiday season. The company has been dying a slow death since 2013 losing roughly around $5.8 billion after closing 1,000 stores.

Founded in 1892, Sears was best known for selling merchandise through its catalogs sent out throughout the country via the US postal system. The company was at its peak in the 1990s until Target, Walmart and other companies sprouted offering stiff competition. Hedge fund manager Edward Lampert bought the company in 2004 and merged it with K-Mart and under his guidance saw a $1.5 billion profit in 2015 but it was all downhill since then.

Speaking on the decision, Lampert said in a statement:

The Chapter 11 process will give [Sears] the flexibility to strengthen its balance sheet … continue right-sizing its operating model, and return to profitability,”

Lampert is hoping for a huge turnaround, but recently we saw that is a huge undertaking just ask Toys “R” Us who tried unsuccessfully to reorganize but wound up laying off its all of its employees. Sears currently employs 68,000 people so we hope the retail giant can find a way to stay afloat for them. 100,000 people receive pensions from the company, and they are also could be affected but could be protected by regulators.

Unfortunately, more layoffs and store closes are more than likely going to happen and continue the trend of traditional walk-in retail becoming a thing of the past.

About Damn Time: PlayStation Announces New Feature Allowing Gamers To Change PSN ID

PlayStation Announces Players Will Be Allowed To Change Their PSN User Names

Source: picture alliance / Getty

Sony is really listening. First, they shocked gamers by announcing cross-play with other systems, and now one of the biggest requests PlayStation owners have been screaming for is finally happening. You will finally be able to change that awful PSN user ID you have been stuck with for years.

It’s about damn, outside of Fortnite players complaining about cross-play, the inability to change your username on PSN was one of Sony’s most significant drawbacks. So you can imagine the excitement when the company made the announcement via its blog.

The full feature won’t be available till 2019 but select users will get to test the new feature starting this year. You will be allowed to change your PSN ID one time for free, and if you want to again it will cost $9.99 / CAD and if you are PlayStation Plus (as you should be at this point) $4.99/ CAD. Also if you are worried about your friends not recognizing your new handle, there is an option to feature your old PSN ID next to your new one.

According to PlayStation, the new feature will be compatible with games published after April 1, 2018, and should work with most popular games made after that date. Sony does warn that you may experience some issues with games and applications for PS4, PS3, and PS Vita causing you to encounter some problems and errors with specific titles. Reverting back to your old PSN ID will solve all of those issues caused by changing your ID according to Sony.

PlayStation will share a complete list of all compatible games when the feature officially launches on its website.  There is no exact date announced, but PS4 owners can look forward to it dropping early in 2019. PlayStation is truly living up to its motto as being the “best place to play.”
