TLC’s T-Boz is Open to Battling Xscape or SWV

Girl groups were prominent in the late ’90s and early ’00s. TLC, Xscape, and SWV all made groundbreaking contributions to the game that served as the soundtracks of our childhoods.

In light of the Verzuz battle that celebrates the music of iconic artists and songwriters, a fan wrote We NEEED TLC VS SWV OR XSCAPE!!!!! Vs BATTLE!!!” on T-Boz’s recent post. “Tell em,” the singer quipped.

Jill Scott and Erykah Badu were the first women to go head-to-head on the popular Instagram live stream series, and arguably one of the best celebrations.

Male R&B groups, 112 and Jagged Edge, made their debuts on Memorial Day Weekend, making them the first groups to participate. So it’s only right that we celebrate the girl groups next and it looks like one half of TLC is already on board.

Swizz Beatz and Timbaland curated the battle series to entertain fans during the quarantine, and admitted that they’ve turned down millions. “Tonight represented the authentic zone of why we didn’t sell 50% of the company for millions of dollars, the authentic zone of why we turned down millions and millions of dollars to the vultures, just wanting to put a name next to name, but no respect for what we do.  We haven’t made one cent off of VERZUZ yet. That don’t mean that we not business, but what we have is something that is, we have a museum. VERZUZ is a museum, it’s an educational, celebrational platform.  What Beanie Man and Bounty Killer did tonight, was iconic. They was just gonna leave Beanie Man, and Bounty Killer on the side of the road, and what did VERZUZ do Tim?”

Rapsody, Musiq Soulchild, SWV and More Tapped for CIAA Tournament Performances

It is officially the week of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association tournament. The CIAA is the first African-American athletic conference in the nation and in celebration of the 75th anniversary of its basketball tournament, the conference has stacked a promising lineup of recording artists for entertainment.

The live stage at the two-day CIAA Toyota Fan Fest is headlined by Mr. “I Wish” Carl Thomas and SWV. Inside the arena, Musiq Soulchild will be ready to perform all his love ballads while lyrical powerhouse and North Carolina’s own Rapsody will hit the stage during the tournament inside the Spectrum Center.

Also on stage will be Layton Greene at the Toyota Fan Fest, kicking off the huge shows that will go down at the Charlotte Convention Center. Greene’s career took off when her “Roll in Peace Remix” exploded across the Internet and garnered over three and a half million plays shotting her up the Billboard Hot R&B Songs Chart.

Also on tap for the tournament is Brooklyn Queen who will headline Lowe’s Super Saturday morning event at the Toyota Fan Fest on Saturday Morning at 11 a.m. The 14-year-old rising star is running up the numbers on her YouTube channel after the success of her “Keke Taught Me” single in 2017.

Joining Thomas and SWV on the Fan Fest stage Saturday afternoon will be gamer turned rapper Krypto9095. You may have caught him on TikTok after racking up two billion views for his single “WOAH.” If that’s not enough to keep tabs on the young star, how about an additional 50 million views on Youtube and 25 million Spotify streams? Crazy, right? He will be on at 3:00 pm with Thomas and SWV hitting the stage at 7:00 p.m.

The championship games will not only feature Musiq Soulchild and Rapsody but also Avant. You can catch Musiq at halftime of the women’s basketball championship game that will tip-off at 1:00 pm. Rapsody will have halftime of the 4:30 pm men’s battle. Avant will appear at halftime of the Friday, February 28 game that starts at 9:00 pm.

Tickets are required for entry into the Spectrum Center and can be purchased at the Spectrum Center box office and Ticketmaster. Other in-arena entertainment will come from DJ Shogun, Mike Phillips, LeVelle, Yvette Simore, and DJ Tramare.

In addition to the musical lineup, the free Toyota Fan Fest features interactive sponsor activations, dancing, cheerleading competitions, sponsor activations and giveaways and other family-friendly entertainment events as part of the CIAA Tournament Week.

Additional events in the Fan Fest include a High School Band Competition, a Cheerleading competition, a step show and the crowning of Miss CIAA presented by Food Lion.

The tournament will be a 22-game set that will begin in Bojangles Coliseum on February, 25 and wrap up with the championship finals at the Spectrum Center on Saturday, February 29.

Be sure to keep up with all CIAA events on their Twitter and Instagram. You can also receive information at CIAAtournament.org.

DJ Spinderella Claims Salt-N-Pepa Fired Her Right Before New Tour

Grand opening, grand closing. It is clear one of Rap’s greatest groups is experiencing inner turmoil.

Salt-N-Pepa will be hitting the road sans DJ Spinderella. The legendary mixmaster announced on her Instagram account that the two female greats served her papers—problem is they neglected to inform the fans right before starting the New Kids On The Block Mixtape Tour.

“I’m deeply saddened to share with all the #SaltnPepa and #Spinderella fans that I will not be performing on the #NKOTB Mixtape Tour. Despite my participation in promoting the tour and being highly publicized as one of the acts, in January 2019 I received a ‘termination’ email from #SaltnPepa excluding me from performances with the group” she added. “It was my expectation, after making that decision, that they would also take responsibility for sharing the news with the public and other affected parties. It has been months now with no mention.”

Born Deidra Muriel Roper, she made it clear she does not want the fans to fall for the jig. “I refuse to participate in misleading fans, ticketholders, and others who — based on all the advertising — were anticipating seeing the iconic #SaltnPepa and #Spinderella trio. So, I’m making it clear now” she explained. Salt nor Pepa have yet to comment and clarify why she was fired.

This news came as a surprise as things looked on the up and up for the “Shoop” rappers. The trio last were billed at a Las Vegas residency in the fall of 2018. They are also co-starring with SWV in the Ladies Night reality show. Additionally, Lifetime announced that they would be releasing a miniseries detailing the trio’s rise to fame.

The group was set to go on the New Kids On The Block Mixtape tour starting in May and was the ground of her disclosure. Born Deidra Roper, Spinderella revealed she was sent a termination notice from the now, duo featuring Cheryl James aka Salt and Sandra Denton aka Pepa via email in January and the group has since failed to update the public. Spin took it upon herself to update the public before day one of the NKOTB Mixtape tour kicks off on Saturday in Cleveland.

Spinderella’s announcement was also made one day after the premiere of Ladies Night, a BET docuseries that trails the journey of the notably three group members as they prepare for their Las Vegas residency. They are castmates with R&B songbirds SWV who is set to join the Hip-Hop divas on tour.

Roper is the second DJ to take on the Salt N’ Pepa brand. When the group first banded in the mid-1980s, a young lady named Latoya Hanson was recruited to be the collective’s elemental disc jockey. However, it did not take long until Hanson was replaced by Roper, today’s famed face of the DJ Spinderella moniker.
