The three foundations announced the giveback today, with funds equaling over $6.2 million. Locally, the fund will provide grants to Give Directly to help support financially unstable families affected by the pandemic, the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City to support domestic violence victims, and the Covenant House New Orleans to provide shelter and other necessary goods to the homeless.

Other initiatives assisted by the fund include the Second Harvest Foodbank of Greater New Orleans & Acadiana, Total Community Action, and the Hispanic Federation. The joint effort will also go towards initiatives internationally, including Doctors Without Borders, the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation, Direct Relief, and Team Humanity.

Rihanna, Dorsey, and JAY-Z have all already made contributions during this difficult time in addition to this very generous donation.

Jay-Z Raised $6 Million At The Shawn Carter Foundation Gala [Photos]

Jay-Z might’ve once again run afoul of the culture by criticizing Colin Kaepernick’s handling of his Saturday workout for NFL teams, but the living Hip-Hop legend continues to do good for those in need and this past weekend was no different.

On Saturday night (Nov. 16) Jay-Z threw a one-night only charity event for the Shawn Carter Foundation and was able to raise $6 million thanks to a star-studded guest list that attended the gala and donated their time and money.

Complex is reporting that entertainment heavyweights such as Tyler Perry, Meek Mill and even Robert Kraft made their way to the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida for the intimate one-time affair. Headlined by an exclusive performance by Alicia Keys, attendees were also treated to a high stakes game of blackjack hosted by Hova himself with a $100K buy-in and a $500K jackpot. Word is technology entrepreneur Marcelo Claure beat out Jay-Z and Yo Gotti to walk away with the half-a-mil purse. Had Jay won you know it would’ve looked too suspect to everyone in attendance. Just saying.

As for the $6 million raised at the event, proceeds will be going to the Shawn Carter Foundation which Jay founded with his mother, Gloria Carter, back in 2003. The foundation provides low-income students with scholarships, college workshops, and the opportunity to study abroad.

Love him or hate him, Jay out here trying to do what he can with what he has. Can’t be mad at that.

It seems Jay-Z will be raising the bar for the culture yet again. He will be pulling out all stops for his upcoming philanthropic affair.

Page Six is reporting that the mogul has been in talks with the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel for the majority of 2019 to plan the Sean Carter Foundation Gala. Scheduled to commence on Friday, November 15, the event already had a lavish point of difference from the gate with attendees receiving invites that included his high-priced bubbly and Daytona Rolex watches. According to the periodical the festivities will include a high stakes poker tournament hosted by Meek Mill and a live performance from Alicia Keys.

The property expressed their enthusiasm about partnering with Jay for this initiative. “All of us at Hard Rock International are excited to host and contribute to a series of weekend fundraising events put on by Jay-Z and his Shawn Carter Foundation at the $1.5 billion Guitar Hotel expansion of the Seminole Hard Hotel & Casino Hollywood,” said Jim Allen, Chairman of Hard Rock International. “The celebrity blackjack tournament, gala dinner and concert by Alicia Keys at our new $125 million Hard Rock Live venue are the initial outcome of our year-long talks with the Roc Nation team and we look forward to welcoming Jay-Z and Beyoncé, along with their VIP guests.”

The Shawn Carter Foundation’s mission is to help individuals facing socio-economic hardships further their education at post secondary institutions.

Jay-Z is doing what he can to give back to the next generation on all fronts. Most recently, he’s launched a scholarship through the Shawn Carter Foundation for students who would like to study abroad.

“The study abroad program was designed by JAY-Z’s charitable foundation and the Institute for International Education (IIE)/Gilman International Scholarship Program. The program was started to ‘designed to expand the global experiences and leadership opportunities for underserved students through establishment of full study-abroad scholarships,’ Travel Noire reports, adding that “according to data from the foundation, 64 percent of the foundation’s scholars are first-generation college students.”

Students who are selected will reportedly be required to complete a service project while abroad.

Hov’s scholarship for study abroad opportunities comes just as the music mogul is beginning to gain traction in his fight to reform the criminal justice system. Stay tuned… we’re sure this isn’t the last we’ll hear from generous Jay.

Since 2007, the Shawn Carter Foundation has been leading a charge to expose potential college students to the world of historically Black colleges and universities, also known as HBCUs, via a bus tour. This year’s tour campaign finds Jay-Z and mother Gloria Carter’s foundation teaming up Toyota with a stop at Washington, D.C.’s Howard University happening today (April 25).

The seven-day tour will take a select number of students from the New York Metropolitan region and give them insight into the life of a student at an HBCU. The group will meet with former students like themselves who received assistance from the foundation to attend school, along with working with college admissions counselors along the way.

For D.C.’s stop of the 11-college tour, students will meet Ms. Carter, WKYS radio personality DJ Angie Ang, who attended Howard, and Carmin Wong, a graduate student at the University of New Orleans and a former SCF HBCU tour bus attendee.
