Drake Says He’s Working on His Next Album, Will Be Shorter than ‘Scorpion’

It’s been a couple of years since Drake has released a full project. His last album, Scorpion, was 2 sides and 25 songs of material. Some listeners felt burdened by its length and the album received mixed reviews. Drake was interviewed while sitting courtside at the Raptors vs. Suns game and revealed that he is working on his sixth studio album.

“I’ve been doing this for like 10+ years as well… Sometimes you need to set a target goal for yourself just to keep it interesting,” Drake stated.

Later in the interview, Drizzy revealed that his Scorpion follow up will be shorter than his previous album.

“So, last album, I went high volume. It did two sides, 20-something songs, which is a lot of songs. This album, I’ll probably make it a more realistic offering, something more concise. Anywhere, whatever you want, it can be 10, 11, 16. I also do a lot of different types of music so it’s tough to make it like a seven-song album or something like that. Yea, I’m having a lot of fun right now making music.”

In an apparent and subtle jab at Kanye, Drake stated that “I also do a lot of different types of music, so it’s tough to make it like a seven-song album.” Kanye produced 5, 7 song albums during the summer of 2018 for his GOOD Music roster.

Scorpion was released in June 2018 following his beef with Pusha T, where Push revealed that Drake was “hiding a child.” However, that incident did not seem to hurt Drake’s sales. The album broke Spotify’s one-day global record with 170 million streams. The album debuted at number 1 on Billboard’s Hot 200 with over 700,000 album equivalents sold in its first week of release.

Drake Gives Shout Out to Arya Stark at Billboard Music Awards

Drake may be hip hop’s current reigning king of the north (after all, Toronto’s weather probably makes Wesseros’ winter look mild), but at the 2019 Billboard Music Awards last night, he bowed down to the queen of the north, giving Game of Thrones’ Arya Stark a shout during the prestigious awards ceremony.

Accepting the award for his most recent album, Scorpions, “shout out to Arya Stark for putting in that work last week,” much to the delight of the show’s live audience as well as hip hop and Game of Thrones fans around the world.

While Arya Stark might still be relishing in her victory over the white walkers from last weekend, Drake also had a major victory, taking home the top artist award (beating out Cardi B, Ariana Grande, Post Malone, and Travis Scott for the honor) as well as top male artist and Billboard 200 album for “Scorpion.”

Even before the awards began, Drake had already established his dominance, entering the MGM Grand Garden Arena, where the awards were held, with 17 total nominations.

Alas, Arya may have to share Drake’s heart with another important woman in his life- his mom. Accepting the top artist award, Drake said, “I just want to thank my mom for her relentless effort in my life. I want to thank my mom for all the times you drove me to piano. All the times you drove me to basketball and hockey, that clearly didn’t work out. All the times you drove me to ‘Degrassi.’ No matter how long it took me to figure out what I wanted to do, you were always there to give me a ride, and now we’re on one hell of ride.”

As Arya likely continues to slay her enemies in the last three episodes of the iconic series, we can only hope that Drake will continue to slay beats in the studio.

Drake Drops Michael Jackson Collab From Assassination Vacation Tour Set Amid ‘Leaving Neverland’ Documentary

In wake of the controversial Leaving NeverLand documentary centered around Michael Jackson’s alleged child molestation, Drake takes a stand with the accusers.

The Toronto rapper axed the Scorpion cut record featuring the King of Pop from his Assassination Vacation tour set.

The song was on the set during his Aubrey and the Three Amigos tour but according to the website setlist.fm it’s not on the set list of his European tour with Tory Lanez.

Although the song wasn’t released as a single in the United States, it was charting in the UK.

Drake hasn’t made any public comments in regards to the omission of the song from his set, but the change comes fresh off the heels of Michael being accused of molesting Wade Robson and James Safe when they were young boys.

Drake Announces New Album Plans For 2019

Drake

OVO Sound boss Drake doesn’t like waiting around too long. Months after dropping his chart-topping Scorpion album, the hip-hop heavyweight has promised to soon start production on its immediate follow-up.

New footage has emerged of Drizzy last night (November 7) breaking the news to a jam-packed Canada crowd.

“Okay, six shows left. I guess, you know, I guess – I’m gonna tell you what I’m going to do. Because I keep having nights like this that remind me why I love my job so much, I promise you that as soon as this tour is over and maybe I take a little break, I’m gonna get right to work on a new album so we can be back right here in Edmonton and have a new party.”

A few weeks ago, Drake’s rap rival Pusha-T appeared to take a shot at him releasing Scorpion as a double album.

“The idea of everybody putting like 25 tracks on an album to get the streams up, it’s such a poverty way of like cheating to me.” (Red Bull Academy)

In early July, Pusha reflected on his Drake dispute and promised to listen to his Scorpion album.

“He said what he said, I said what I said, now it’s done. It stayed how it was supposed to stay, just words,” grins Pusha. “It was definitely good for hip-hop. What has been more energetic than this?” On Drake’s new album, Scorpion, he addresses Pusha’s revelations about his child with the lyrics: “I wasn’t hiding my kid from the world, I was hiding the world from my kid.” Will he give it a listen? “Hell yeah! I gotta have something to compare Daytona to, don’t I?” he says. (The Guardian)

Pusha-T Low-Key Fires Shots At Drake Over His Streaming Tactics?

Pusha-T Red Bull Academy

G.O.O.D. Music president Pusha-T has social media wondering if he’s still going at the 6 God. The hip-hop veteran appeared to get at Drake with a reference to his Scorpion summer album.

In a new interview, T seemed to reference Drake and his 25-song Scorpion album being a sneaky way of powering up streaming stats.

The same week, G-Unit boss 50 Cent said Pusha officially won the Drake feud after getting super personal with his “Story of Adidon” diss record.

“Pusha-T was dead in pocket with that because he offered information to the public before, that they didn’t know was real. When that happens, they go, ‘Wait.’ They heard the line, ‘That was true?’ They go, ‘Oh sh*t.’ It’s really, people’s interest in Drake is what made the line so good. It became has important as he was to the actual culture because these are true statements. Then you’re going, from Drake’s space, he can make a song that sounds like God wrote it right now and they’re gonna listen to it and be like, ‘That’s cool.’” (Whoolywood Shuffle)

In June, Drake’s mom applauded her mini-me for being the bigger man and not responding to Pusha’s “Story of Adidon” diss record.

“Sure do,” Sandi said when asked if the rap feuds should end. “They’re too grown up for that. I believe he always makes the best decisions in the end.” (TMZ)

In addition, Drake brought out fifth Ward Weebie and Alvin Kamara amid his set.

This New Orleans show brings the tour dates back to normal after a few postponed Miami dates following Drake’s much needed time to recover after being temporarily ill.

The “In My Feelings” rapper shared, “Unlike other show cancellations or date adjustments due to production issues, this one fell on me and I just want to apologize because I hate letting down anyone who [comes] to share these moments with us.”

Thank goodness Drizzy is alive and well to finish up his much anticipated tour. Have you copped your tickets yet?
