Notes From The Quarantine: Todd Bridges Is Trending. What?

With quarantine now in the month of May, its time to do a wellness check on your attention span. It’s okay to pull your mask down now.

We know that you are probably down to the bottom of your Netflix choices. We know that you are also tired of hearing about people’s Only Fans accounts on IG all day.

However, as usual Twitter never disappoints and this Sunday morning, the one and only Todd Bridges was trending. Immediately, all curiosity dwelled on whether something had happened to him.

In this day and age, with so much bad news, we are all becoming antiseptic. Then I checked myself. This wasn’t bad news, it was pure nostalgia.

Our attention spans have now traversed through time back to when a young Todd Bridges played Solomon on ‘Little House On The Prairie.’

It is Sunday, and with the streets still devoid of the brunch bunch due to social distancing, we are conjuring Nana’s TV playlist.

This is why I love us! From watching producers and artists battle it out in live song competitions to Todd Bridges’ shining moments, we are truly connecting again.

Whenever somebody pulls out a show with everybody’s surrogate white Pops, Michael Landon, in it, we are in a good space.

The bigger statement is that Todd Bridges woke up today feeling appreciated for his years of service. Had it not been for this quarantine, and back to family and personalization, we would have keep Todd Bridges’ performance in Little House On The Prairie in the past.

Instead its on the forefront of Twitter, the new world’s ultimate legitimizer. Salute to us all on a successful quarantine, where we can get back to basics and remember a time that will never be again.

Mask on.

SOURCE SPORTS: Draymond Green Becomes First Player Ejected at the New Chase Center

Draymond Green made history in San Fransico on Monday night.

Green became the first player ever ejected from Chase Center when he was tossed from the Golden State Warriors-Utah Jazz game in the fourth quarter. Green was upset with being called for a reach-in foul and received two technicals, which triggered the automatic ejection.

Green was playing his first contest since missing five games due to a finger sprain. He had four points, seven rebounds, and four assists in 22 minutes before being ejected.

“I disagreed with that call,” Green explained after the game. “And I’m never going to be ok with another grown man telling me ‘don’t talk.’ If you feel like you got the call wrong, or right, you don’t tell me not to talk. I’m a grown man. I got my own kids. So that’s what happened.”

The Warriors’ woes continue. They’re now 2-9 following the loss and are 1-5 at their new home in San Francisco. The team has been playing without Steph Curry, who said before the game that he expects to return from a broken hand in the spring.

With the Warriors being a shell of their former selves, teams are looking to get some revenge on the team. Green is still going to be green, so expect more ejections down the line.

Wyclef Affirms Legacy, Talks Career Ahead Of House By Heineken Performance

Wyclef at House By Heineken Outside Lands Festival 2019

Source: Jesse Lirola / @JesseLirola

San Francisco was blanketed with waves of concertgoers this past weekend to take in the latest edition of the Outside Lands Festival. Headlined by Twenty One Pilots, Childish Gambino, and Paul Simon, the eclectic gathering of musical minds gave way to a special pop-up performance from Wyclef Jean of The Fugees fame, and we were fortunate to speak to the multi-talented artist ahead of his House by Heineken set.

Veering away from the usual questions about his Fugees past, we decided to instead speak to the Haitian-born star’s current place in music, and where his journey is taking him next. Brimming with quiet humility, Wyclef, fresh from an event in Brooklyn, initially appeared tired but warmed up as the chat went on.

“I always say that for me, it’s surreal,” Clef shared, remarking his still-ongoing journey as an entertainer. “We just came back from Coney Island in Brooklyn in my old hood, all my Nigerians and all my peoples, and I get here [to OSL] and I’m with my hippies. It’s just about bringing that One Love vibe, the Bob Marley vibe. Don’t matter if it’s two people or a thousand, or 15,000, 100,000, you’re always gonna get a Wyclef show.”

Wyclef added, “The stage is a celebration to me, it’s a celebration. Because if you came from where I came from, when I say I came from a hut to a donkey, to a Ferarri, that wasn’t no animated story. I’m always humbled first. Then I thank God. I’ve been doing this a long time.”

Legacy is important to Wyclef, as it should be for an artist of his measurable success and stature. When asked if he revisits his classic work with the Fugees or his own acclaimed solo work, Wyclef displayed the humility we noticed earlier.

“I’m a student of Quincy Jones and the music is all about the pulse of the youth,” Wyclef shared. “I remember this song I did called “41 Shots for Diallo,” which didn’t get any radio play here [in the U.S.}. I go to Nigeria, 200,000 people with Diallo signs. I learned that from Quincy Jones that when you make music, it’s a piece of history that’s going to touch someone different everyone and live beyond you. I don’t go back to my music, I made it. But everyone finds what they want in it.”

A moment of introspection and self-awareness took place when we asked about Wyclef’s next steps were, and he didn’t shy away from the fact he’ll be hitting the half-century mark this October. While music remains his first love, Wyclef is now venturing into the realm of storytelling.

“I’m about to be 50 this year and a lot of things are moving for Wyclef Jean right now,” he said. “I did a big deal with Netflix to produce a movie and at first I was like I don’t want it focused on my life or The Carnival and none of that.”

Wyclef continued, “I said ‘no we’re going to do a movie about the first 10 years of my life.’ So I want to cater to kids from six years old to 12. So this one is going to be called, The Prince of Port-au-Prince and how a kid escapes poverty through imagination.

I’m very excited about that because the level of the soundtrack and the score I’m gonna be doing for this project, it’s gonna be on the level of Aladdin or Spider-Man. So now, I got to show a kid that seven or eight that’s coming up and into music and what’s to know what music in Haiti sounds like, they’re gonna learn how to speak my language.”

Given that Wyclef was there to rock the House by Heineken stage and the Dutch brewing company was the official beer sponsor for Outside Lands, it was only fitting to ask if he partook of the beer, including the company’s new alcohol-free brew, the 0.0. We carefully asked if he indulged in a Heineken or two, and was met with a scoff and a knowing wink.

“Come on, go back to The Carnival, Clef gets down with the Heineken, and the brews,” Wyclef said with a smile. “I gets busy but I haven’t had a chance to have any Heineken. I’m gonna drink that Heineken 0.0 after the set.”

In an all too brief set, Wyclef rocked hits such as “Maria, Maria,” “Ready Or Not,” and several blistering freestyles in a set that commanded the crowd for the short time he had them.

At a festival with literal legends like Simon and culture champions like Gambino, Wyclef Jean showed and proved that despite achieving high heights, he still has plenty more to offer the world stage while solidifying his status as one of music’s best talents living today.

Versoul – “Soulrise” (Album Review)

Women’s Hip-Hop is at an all-time high of popularity right now. Respectively on par with the men, erasing the word “male-domination” from the genre period. The perfect time to audition for greatness at this moment according to the promising Bay Area recording artist Versoul. The rising producer/recording artist tells her story in the release of her debut album, Soulrise.

On the debut, Versoul introduces herself as she shreds many layers of discovery to unveil pain, passion, truth, and meaning. The San Francisco-native addresses her insecurities, drama, and takes a leap of faith in her music by relying on honesty, faith, and her limitless potential. Discussing her upbringing, understanding the unknown, refusing statistics, and not losing herself in expectations.

Listen to Versoul’s new album, Soulrise below, courtesy of Spotify.

Lyrically, Versoul is powerful. In the pocket, she is fearless, straight to the point with her rhymes, not looking for being the most stylish but straight forward, quick, and attitude, her fundamentals are undeniable. Versoul is shocking based on her abilities to get her point across and refusing to be looked beyond as she demands your full attention. Roseanne bars, Versoul’s melodies could use some fine-tuning. Not much range like her rhymes, unfortunately as a songstress, Versoul ends up with a flat. But her impeccable lyrical prowess easily disguises her fixable vocals; therefore, it’s all good.

Production appears to be a slight drawback as it never reaches heavy bass driven highs. While attentive, the production is simplistic from beginning to end. While it shows Versoul lyrical abilities is formidable regardless of the backdrop, like her words, the production should match with sounds that go below the surface and swim in the deep end. Other than depth, the production still manages to carry its weight; however, eager to see what growth appears in later efforts.

Insightful, Soulrise is a satisfyingly digestible deeply rooted cultural body of work. Reframing from stereotypical concepts, Versoul displays her multifacet personality drawn from her experiences as a multi-ethnicities female. Among the ten tracks, man or woman, you find yourself relating to Versoul’s idealism and inspired by her journey. Overall, Soulrise is uplifting, courageous, and brilliant.
