Taxstone Shares Opinion on Joe Budden: 'A Master Manipulator'

Joe Budden may be commonly known as The Podfather, but to Taxstone, he is a master manipulator. Speaking with Complex on the heels of the publication naming The JBP host No. 1 on their Media Power Ranking list, Tax gave his opinion on Joe, his past co-hosts Rory and Mal’s departure and his new cast.

“I think Rory and Mal finally figured out that Joe was a master manipulator,” Tax said when asked about Budden. “They was suffering from Stockholm Syndrome and Joe manipulates everybody around him. Even them dudes sitting with him now are being manipulated. But you gotta understand some people are alright with manipulation as long as they get something out of it. So I think them dudes know that. But I think they just cool with the situation.”

He added, “Sometimes people don’t got nothing going on in their life. They need to be a part of something. I’m not one of those people. I always tell people if everybody jump on that ship, it’s gonna sink. So I’m always the person that’s like, I’m gonna stay with the land. When y’all get over there y’all write me and tell me what happened.”

Last month, Taxstone was found guilty of manslaughter in connection to a 2016 Irving Plaza shooting. He gets sentenced on April 19, but when he returns home, podcasting again may be out of the question.

“It’s such a weird place,” Tax said. ” Podcasts for hip-hop have become nasty. Everybody’s copying each other. Everybody’s following the same subjects. It’s no original voices. Like it’s corny.”

ICYMI: Rory and Mal’s New Podcast Lands Deal with SiriusXM’s Stitcher

Rory and Mal‘s podcast is set to get bigger. In a new Vulture feature, the once co-hosts of the Joe Budden Podcast reveal they have signed with SiriusXM’s Stitcher, and the show will now be released through Stitcher’s new More Sauce label. The first episode in the new deal will release on Nov. 2, they will follow with new installments every Tuesday and Friday.

“We definitely wanted to add some new elements into podcasting,” Rory said of the deal. “I feel like podcasting has become pretty stagnant and a little oversaturated, where everyone is just setting up microphones and talking about the same thing every single day.”

The duo would also state they are not opposed to the independent route but the venture with SiriusXM was a good situation and allowed them to retain full ownership of their show.

“We’re not against being independent. Sure, we signed a deal, but again, it just made sense,” said Mal. “They understand what we’re trying to do and what we represent and how important it is for us.”

Rory added, “We have 100 percent ownership of our show.”

Rory and Mal would also touch on their split from Joe Budden. Mal stated at this point he doesn’t think about the situation and says that the character of his former friend showed.

The two also revealed they do not have conversations with Budden. Specifically, Mal stated, “I haven’t seen or spoken to him since my last day at the studio. I’m happy it went that way because if I had seen him or run into him, it would have been bad news.”

New Rory and Mal!

Weeks after being fired from The Joe Budden Podcast, on Friday, June 11, Rory Farrell and  Jamil ‘Mal’ Clay dropped the first episode from their new podcast, New Rory and Mal.

“I just kind of wanted to shut the fuck up for a few weeks,” said Rory in the episode. “It was five years of non-stop talking. I was listening back to old episodes and I was like, ‘Yo, can this kid just shut the f*ck up?’ It was definitely a self-awareness time of a few weeks. I just don’t—my opinion shouldn’t be out there.”

The two did not delve into their fallout with Joe Budden and subsequent firing from the podcast. They already explained the entire situation in a Vimeo exclusive. It seems as if they have decided to move on from the situation. In the hour-long episode, the duo talked about a host of topics, including taking a few weeks from podcasting while hanging out in Los Angeles, being in the VIP section in the club, Elon Musk, Floyd Mayweather, Culture III, and other topics.

“Let’s try some different shit,” Mal said of the show. “Let’s change the optics a little bit on this media culture or whatever you wanna call it.”

While they explained that they did not want to make the pod “guest based” they said that they will feature they really appreciate.

“We’re gonna give people us, you know what I mean? Obviously, we’re doing this together. But you’re gonna have your shit that you’re doing on your own,” Mal said. “I’m gonna have my shit that I’m doing on my own. And we’re gonna be putting it out in a cool way and having fun with this shit.”

Katt Williams on Cancel Culture: ‘Nobody Likes The Speed Limit But It’s Necessary’

Katt Williams on Cancel Culture: 'Nobody Likes The Speed Limit But It's Necessary'

Many people argue that cancel culture “killed” a lot of things but Katt Williams questions if it even exists.

Williams was asked “Where do you stand on comics’ ability to be comics without judgment and repercussions from cancel culture?” during a conversation on the Joe Budden podcast.

“Some of these things are for the benefit of everything,” the comedian responded. “Nobody likes the speed limit, but it’s necessary. Nobody likes the shoulder of the road, but it’s there for a reason. My point is, [people] weren’t all that extremely funny back when they could say whatever they wanted to say.”

He continued, “At the end of the day, there’s no cancel culture. Cancellation doesn’t have its own culture.”

Katt Williams went on to elaborate that cancel culture didn’t effect people “we wish we had back” and said comedian’s aren’t here to make people upset.

“I don’t know what people got cancelled that we wish we had back. Who are they? It’s done for the reasons it’s done for and it helped who it helped,” Williams said. “If all that’s going to happen is that we have to be more sensitive in the way that we talk, isn’t that what we want anyway? I’m saying, your job as a comedian is to please the most amount of people with your art. Don’t call somebody this word when you know it affects all of these people.”

He concluded, “If these are the confines that keep you from doing the craft God put you to, then it probably ain’t for you.”
