Today, entertainment icon, entrepreneur, and social activist Snoop Dogg has teamed up with two voting advocacy groups, Rock The Vote and 1 VoteCloser, as well as social justice initiative OneOpp to launch an online voter registration drive called #VoteWithSnoop that will run from now through the election on November 3.

Legendary artist Shepard Fairey (Obama “Hope,” Obey the Giant) created a series of Snoop Dogg posters that will be displayed in cities around the country.

“This is gonna be the first election I am voting in. How the system is set up, I honestly didn’t know that I was allowed to vote based on my past history. My record has been expunged so I’m gonna be out there this election. I have to get involved,” said Snoop Dogg. “As I’m looking around at what is happening in the world right now, I know that we need to make an immediate change and we can’t sit back idle, which is why, along with OneOpp, I’ve partnered with Rock The Vote and 1VoteCloser. I’m gonna use my voice and Influence to let people know that the only option is to get out and vote.”

Rock The Vote founder Jeff Ayeroff says, “30 years ago when we started Rock the Vote, no one spoke of the youth vote, except to say that young people did not vote. What began as a response to the censorship of hip hop artists grew into a radical mobilization of young people as a political force. Today, we are thrilled to have Snoop Dogg — himself a subject of artistic censorship early in his career — join the list of iconic artists with whom we’ve worked to turn engagement into action and get the youth to the polls. Snoop is an artist whose work has pushed boundaries; an entrepreneur whose imagination knows no limits; and a social activist who, along with OneOpp, is focused on getting out the vote. ”

#VoteWithSnoop is being launched in tandem with Rock The Vote’s 30th Anniversary. In 1990, Jeff Ayeroff founded Rock the Vote in response to the censorship of hip-hop and rap artists. Their first partnership, with MTV, promoted the message that “Censorship is Un- American” and activated millions of young people across the country to exercise their rights and represent their interests.

Snoop Dogg is correcting the record on voting by spreading the message that voting is a powerful tool to create the change we want to see, despite the negative messages and lies we’ve been told,” said Rock the Vote President Carolyn DeWitt. “It’s inspiring to be a witness to Snoop Dogg’s leadership to use his platform to help others learn about their rights, empower them to vote and create change in our communities.”

Alicia Keys, Lil Uzi Vert, H.E.R & More Take the Stage at 2019 Tidal X Rock the Vote Benefit Concert

TIDAL X hosted its fifth annual benefit concert on Monday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, and this time they joined forces with Rock the Vote to encourage the youth to participate in the 2020 Presidential election.

All of the proceeds will go towards causes that advocate for young people to vote.

The star-studded night, which was hosted by Miss Dominican Republic 2015 Clarissa Molina and Power 105.1’s, Angie Martinez, featured dozens of artists and surprise performances including, H.E.R., Fat Joe and Flipp Dinero.

The lineup represented different genres and age groups, and the Latin pop culture dominated the night. Becky G, CNCO, and Farruko represented for the Latino Gang, meanwhile, Hip Hop freshman like Lil Tecca and Lucky Daye graced the stage. Alicia Keys was the woman of the hour and her tribute to Brooklyn’s own Biggie, had the arena going crazy.

“I never got to rock with him,” she said as she smoothly transitioned from her own rendition of Biggie’s “Juicy.” “So this is like a dream for me.”

Although everyone was turning up and having a good time, the organizers did a great job stay on track. In-between sets TIDAL and Rock the Vote displayed facts about immigration and voter laws. Some of the artists on the lineup like Casanova and Nicole Bus prerecorded videos encouraging people, especially the youth, to exercise their rights to vote.

There were tables set up all throughout the Barclays Center for people to register to vote.

Lil Uzi Vert came out to close the five-hour benefit concert and performed a slew of his hit singles like “The Way Life Goes,” “New Patek,” and his mega-hit, “XO Tour Llif3.”

Remember back in the 90’s when some of our favorite music stars and celebrities were telling us to “Rock The Vote” and head down to the ballot box to exercise our constitutional right only for us to brush it off and continue to live our lives? Well, now that Donald Trump is the current Racist-In-Chief because more than a million people didn’t vote in 2016 it seems kinda important, doesn’t it?

With the most important presidential election in American history a little more than a year away Tidal X is teaming up with the Rock The Vote nonprofit to for a benefit concert to raise funds that’ll help bring awareness to voter registration along with education and rights.

The concert is set to go down on October 21st at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, New York and will feature a star-studded lineup including the likes of Alicia Keys, Farruko, French Montana, Becky G, G-Eazy, Ty Dolla $ign, Carnage, CNCO, Moneybagg Yo, Doja Cat, Gashi, Dermot Kennedy, Lucky Daye, Angelica Vila, Nicole Bus and many more.

One hundred percent of net proceeds from ticket sales and campaign will be donated to Rock The Vote to register and prepare new voters who are unfamiliar with the process; build coordinated efforts with grassroots organizations in its partnership network to mobilize underserved youth across the country; litigate to fight for voting rights; and lead a high school civics education coalition.

Sounds righteous.

If you’re interested on attending the benefit concert you can copp tickets at Tidal.com/RockTheVote or on the Tidal app for those who’ve downloaded it on their mobile devices.

Are you going to be rocking the vote come 2020? Let us know in the comments section.
