At the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, many believed that prisons would be hit hard by COVID-19. Popular podcaster and Twitter personality Taxstone shared a harrowing personal account of what life is like in jail during the outbreak.

The Tax Season host is currently incarcerated in the infamous prison and has been there since 2017 after pleading guilty to federal gun charges back in 2016 following a shooting in New York. On Thursday (Apr 2), Taxstone took to Twitter to reveal in great detail what he and other prisoners are going through.

“I’m currently in my grave, with my eyes open, dirt up to my neck, getting dizzy as the world turns. For a month now, we haven’t been allowed visits, legal or social. Understandable, considering what’s going on. But what I don’t understand is how the only people we have contact with on the outside, the correctional officers and civilians, have no protective gear. They aren’t giving us anything to protect ourselves.”

He also touched on the fact that some inmates are being released early because of COVID-19 while pointing out others are not.

“I see head of corrections stating not to release people charged with murder, rape or robbery…like it’s ok for THEM die,”

“The moral code that they have written and are now breaking, goes against all codes of humanity, in the middle of a global pandemic. We’re being raped of our rights of being innocent until proven guilty, and being left on an island to be murdered by this uncontrolled serial killer called Covid-19. They don’t even care about the correctional officers. We’re all just a check at the end of the day, in one of the industries that are still intact during this global pandemic. The correction officers have families too, you think they want to catch something and bring it home to their families? Of course not!”

He even details how an inmate in a cell not too far from his just learned that his mother passed away from COVID-19. To put in perspective just how f***ed up the prison system is, the inmate was jailed for a 3-month parole violation and would have been released, but due to the pandemic was kept an additional month.

This news comes on the heels of JAY-Z and Meek Mill announcing they will teaming up to get 100,000 masks to prisons. Rikers Island will be a recipient of that protective gear getting 50,000 masks, with another 2,500 being sent to Rikers’ medical staff.

Just recently, YNW Melly claims he tested positive for COVID-19 as he awaits trial for murder. Habitual troll and snitch, Tekashi 6ix9ine, was released early due to fears of contracting the virus.

We hope Tax, the other inmates, and correction officers continue to stay safe.

PRISONS’ WORST FEAR! Rikers Island Has its First Inmate to Contract the Coronavirus

One of the most dangerous scenarios to possibly happen in New York state regarding the global coronavirus pandemic has come to pass. The first inmate in Rikers Island prison has tested positive for COVID-19 has been identified, shortly after a correction officer was diagnosed with the disease.

On Wednesday, the first city Department of Correction officer to be
confirmed to have the virus. He worked as the front gate security at Rikers.

The head of the corrections officers’ union saw that having two cases being infected within 24 hours is a horrible sign — one that points to a surefire outbreak on the horizon.

According to the New York Post, Elias Husamudeen, the president of the
Correction Officers Benevolent Association, wants the state to hurry up and “implement
their contingency plans” after the inmate tested positive.

He further stated, “This crisis will grow worse with each passing day. Give
us the help we need now!”

Husamudeen wants the government to purchase new face masks for COs to more efficiently shield them from the spread of the violence. Another plan that is proposed is for new inmates to the jail to be separated from the main population.

Harvey Weinstein to Get Transferred From Rikers Island to New York State Prison

It hasn’t even been a month since Harvey Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison and he’s moved around more than a cranky baby.

He was admitted to Bellevue Hospital because his blood pressure spiked, but was shortly discharged and went back to Rikers Island. After two days, he is being transferred to a New York State prison.

Weinstein’s legal team requested that he stay in Downstate Correctional Facility in Fishkill, N.Y. because it has a medical facility. It’s unclear what was wrong with Rikers North Infirmary Command, but it probably wasn’t up to the disgraced producer’s standard.

The 67-year-old has suffered from heart problems and other health conditions since being in custody on February 23rd. It’s unclear if Harvey Weinstein will remain in Fishkill or be moved later.

New York State prisons have suspended inmate visitation except for non-contact attorney visits due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Tupac. Lil Wayne. Tekashi 6ix9ine. Bobby Shmurda. ASAP Rocky. DMX. Casanova. Foxy Brown. Maino. Now Harvey Weinstein. #RikersResidents

Harvey Weinstein has now joined the Rikers Island distinguished fraternity of criminals. Until he hears his sentencing, he will find himself behind bars at the jail that has housed the likes of Tupac, DMX, Foxy Brown, ASAP Rocky, and Casanova. Weinstein may even bump cafeteria trays with Brooklyn’s Bobby Shmurda or Tekashi 6ix 9ine. Either way, he is going to the clink.

Rikers Island will hold the disgraced movie exec who according to CNN may serve up a minimum of five years and a maximum of more than 20 years in prison.

It’s about to be crazy for him. He will not be treated any more special than the other celebs that have darkened these doors. Clearly, this has caused him some issues. After he was convicted on Mon. Feb. 24th and as they were transporting him to the jail, the panic kicked in. His chest had pains, heart palpitations and his blood pressure was raised so elevated they took him to Bellevue Hospital.

Good thing too.

According to CNN, Weinstein had a blockage in his heart and the doctors had to put a stent in his heart. On Thursday, he was taken to the prison’s infirmary.

Interestingly enough, Weinstein will be one of the last generations of lawbreakers to reside on the island of incarceration. Rikers will be closed before his term is completed. This sentencing is for his crimes in New York. He still will have to stand trial in Los Angeles for the #MeToo associated crimes with women that have worked for him and he sexually abused.

Former Trump Crony Paul Manafort Ordered To Rikers Island, Twitter Reacts

Paul Manafort, the former campaign chairman for President Donald Trump, was convicted of tax and bank fraud in 2018 and has been jailed since last June. When the news that Manafort would be transferred to Rikers Island, the reaction on Twitter was swift and varied.

Manafort, who turned 70 last week, won’t be seeing release before 2024 as a result of being found guilty on an intial eight counts, some of which he pleaded guilty to and was slapped with a seven-year, six-months sentence. Manafort will be transferred from FCI Loretto in Pennsylvania, a minimum security facility, to Rikers this coming Thursday.

The outcry from pundits and others on the Right have decried the decision despite the fact Manafort is indeed a convicted felon. With Manafort facing a bevy of charges in New York, the transfer is perhaps justifiable considering the number of offenses as he awaits trial for mortgage fraud and other charges in the state.

We’ve collected some of the reaction from Twitter below.
