Rihanna’s Rep Shuts Down Shaggy’s Claims of an ‘Audition’ Request

Shaggy ruffled a few feathers when he claimed Rihanna asked him to audition in order to be apart of her highly-anticipated, mystery, R9 album. “They approached me for the Rihanna project, yeah,” Shaggy reportedly said. “There’s a lot of great people involved but for me, I didn’t need to audition to be on the record, I’ll leave that to younger guys.”

Jamaica Irie FM Morning Show reports that they spoke to a representative from Riri’s camp and they shut down claims of the Bajan singer asking the reggae veteran to audition. “We are working on an album, not a talent show, so why would [Rihanna] require Shaggy or any other artist to audition?” the rep reportedly said, according to TheJasmineBRAND

The rep also added that Shaggy was the one who reached out to the Bad Gal. “After Rihanna had already gathered all the material for the album, Shaggy contacted her asking to be a part of the album,” they stated. “She explained to him that the album was pretty much completed and they were just working on mixing, mastering and deciding which songs to actually use. However, she invited him to submit some materials so she could see if it fits with the flow of the album. That was by no means asking for an audition, it was more going out of her way to get him on the album.”

Shaggy has yet to comment on Rihanna’s rep’s statement, but hopefully, he clarifies it soon.

Rihanna Confirms Drake Will Not Appear on her Upcoming Reggae Album

If you were hoping for a Rihanna and Drake collaboration on her upcoming album, kiss that dream goodbye.

In an interview the New York Times’ T Magazine, Riri opens up about her upcoming reggae album, R9. The interviewer asked if she had any collaborations with her ex, Drake, on this collection or any projects in the works and she shut that all the way down. “Not anytime soon, I don’t see it happening. Not on this album, that’s for sure,” Rihanna said.

Aside from being romantically connected, the pair have joined forces to make smash hits like “Work,” “Take Care,” and their first collab ever, “What’s My Name?”

Exclusive: A first look at #Rihanna's new fashion line @Fenty, created in partnership with #LVMH. For her next act, the pop star will become the first black woman in charge of a major luxury fashion house in Paris. Here, @badgalriri opens up about what this means to her: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “You’re going to be black wherever you go. And I don’t know if it’s unfortunate or fortunate, because I love being black. So, sorry for those who don’t like it — that’s the first thing you see before you even hear my voice. There are also other factors: I’m young. I’m new to the family. I’m a woman. Those factors do come into play, but I will not apologize for them, and I will not back down from being a woman, from being black, from having an opinion. I’m running a company and that’s exactly what I came here to do. I don’t know if it makes people uncomfortable or not, but that’s not even my business, you know? I do know that the reason I’m here is not because I’m black. It’s because of what I have to offer. That’s what they’re invested in. And the fact that I’m black is just that: a fact.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Click the link in our bio for Rihanna's full conversation with the playwright @JeremyOHarris, and to see more exclusive images of her new clothing line. Fans may be disappointed that Drizzy and Riri won’t be working their magic one time for the culture, but his collaboration with Chris Brown is hitting the streets real soon.
