Jhene Aiko and Megan Thee Stallion Prove Women Run It With New Albums

Jhene Aiko and Meghan Thee Stallion dropped albums today setting the tone for a woman’s empowerment weekend.

Amid all the drama between the Houstonian’s label 1501 Certified Entertainment, Megan Thee Stallion was still able to drop an album.

Her debut album Suga is a nine-track project that includes her single “B.I.T.C.H.”. The single has an Eif Rivera-directed video. It also includes collaborations with Kehlani and Gunna.

Megan Thee Stallion claimed that her label was preventing her from releasing new music. After filing a lawsuit she was granted a temporary restraining order which allows her to release new music.

Thank the heavens the judge understand the turn-up!

On the R&B tip, Jhene Aiko dropped her third album Chilombo and Twitter went bananas!

She incorporated the vibrational hum of crystal alchemy singing bowls into every track.

Tracks like Pu$$y Fairy (OTW) showcase this new musical wizardry. Aiko’s third album documents the bitter end of a failed relationship. However, it does not give you the bow wrapped happiness conclusion.

Still, with the “Hot Girl Summer” inventor and R&B princess giving your weekend life, we’ve all come up.

Both albums are available for streaming below.

R&B Legend Frankie Beverley Loves Beyoncé’s ‘Before I Let Go’ Cover

One of the biggest takeaways from Beyoncé’s Homecoming, a documentary detailing her iconic performance at Coachella aka Beychella performance, was her remake of Maze featuring Frankie Beverly’s Black national anthem “Before I Let Go.” Some purists believed the cover is almost sacrilegious but there are many (Shout out to the Beyhive) who loved her rendition including the writer and composer of the song R&B legend Frankie Beverly.

In an interview with Billboard, when asked when did he discover that Beyoncé wanted to cover his classic track, he responded, “Well, that’s kind of the shocking part of it. She’s a great friend of mine, but I didn’t know she was going to do this. I was hearing stuff, but I didn’t even want to approach her about it. She kept it quiet, until her people called me one day maybe a week or two ago. When they played it, that’s when I heard the first draft of it, and I was blown away. It’s a blessing. It’s amazing how she works, she’s very smart. I’m caught off guard, but in a beautiful way. She’s such a sweet person too. She’s a very sweet, religious kind of person. Then the way she just released it, it’s off the chain. She’s done so much; this is one of the high points of my life.”

Beverly gave Beyoncé’s version the ultimate thumbs up so, it can be played at Black weddings and cookouts all across Black America. He continued, “Other people have done my songs, but the way she did this was in a class of its own. I’m hearing from people I haven’t heard from in years. She’s done something that has affected my life. I haven’t even spoken to a publication like yours in quite a while. So it’s changed things around for me.”

Diddy Weighs in on King of R&B Debate: ‘R&B’s Not Being Made Right Now’

Jacquees plunged social media into an exhausting debate since Monday after he crowned hisself the King of R&B.

People have named Bobby Brown, Trey Songz, Usher, R. Kelly, and Kehlani even named Beyonce the King of R&B. Diddy stepped in and completely dismissed the conversation by defining a king and stating that R&B isn’t even being made anymore.

“I usually mind my business, but R&B is the foundation of my life,” he said in a video posted to Twitter.

“That word king is too loosely thrown around. Now I understand the concept that we are all kings, I understand that, but if we’re talking about in the competitive arena of music, cats give away the king thing too early,” he says. “A couple of hits ain’t gonna do it.”

Diddy established the pillars of R&B and said that it has to be sensual, vulnerable, and incites baby making. “We’re talking about rhythm and blues,” he says. “We’re talking about sharing your soul. We’re talking about making love through your music, making a whole generation of babies. Adoring a woman, not you know putting her down, not talking about how you just wanna smash her—adoring her.”

If anyone wants to be considered a king the mogul says, “you gotta start making some R&B. You have to be vulnerable. You have to be speaking about love. You have to affect women in a positive way, and your ass gotta be able to sing.”

Puff knows his music, and he says that type of music isn’t being made. “R&B’s not being made right now. This is not R&B. I wanna make sure y’all clear,” he argues. “You gotta make some R&B to be the king of R&B.”
