According to several sources, rapper Tay-K is facing more time in addition to his 55-year prison sentence for stabbing a guard while in prison. If convicted, Tay could be facing the rest of his natural life behind bars.

Tay- K, whose real name is Taymor McIntyre, was sentenced to 55 years in July 2019 for a home invasion and murder, but the Cali-born/Texas-bred was indicted on a capital murder charge three months later for a robbery turned homicide in a Chick-Fil-A parking lot in 2017.

After the 2017 shooting, McIntyre went on the lam, prompting the release of his viral track “The Race”.

Screen Shot 2020 10 05 at 12.49.42 PM

As social media has become the advent of breaking news everywhere, even from the insides of the prisons in the United States’ criminal justice system, a Texas-based jeweler took to Twitter about a client that ordered a diamond-encrusted grill and had his order delivered to prison.

Sam The Jeweler said, “About a month ago, I get a FaceTime from a client saying he needs a flawless set but he was in prison. Pulled a couple strings and here is the first 30k flawless grill delivered to prison.”

Social media has become a hotbed for prison contraband videos, but this one is definitely the coldest ever.

Jack Dorsey Makes $10 Million Donation to REFORM Alliance to Deliver Masks to Every Prison in America

Twitter and Square CEO Jack Dorsey’s #smartsmall initiative will assist the REFORM Alliance with a $10 million donation for COVID-19 Relief efforts.

With the donation, REFORM will purchase and deliver 10 million masks and additional PPE to prisons across all 50 states. The aim is to ensure the incarcerated population, correctional officers, healthcare workers, and personnel working in state, federal and private facilities are protected from COVID-19 exposure.

In the top-10 COVID-19 hotspots in the United States, eight are linked to prisons and jails. The largest COVID-19 cluster in the country is at Marion Correctional Institution in Marion, Ohio, where there are 2,197 infected inmates—more than 80 percent of the prison population. To date, over 5,000 correctional officers nationwide have tested positive for the virus.

“I’m grateful REFORM exists,” Dorsey said. “The criminal justice system needs to change. COVID-19 adds to the injustices, and REFORM is best suited to help.”

“This generous donation from Jack and #startsmall is an absolute game-changer,” REFORM Alliance CEO Van Jones said. “Not only will this gift help us protect millions from the threat of COVID-19, but this level of support from a tech titan marks a turning point for the criminal justice reform movement. It’s truly an honor to call Jack an ally in this fight, be able to provide masks to every prison in America and potentially save tens of thousands of lives.”

The donation coincides with the #AnswerTheirCall film, a PSA that highlights how COVID-19 is devastating behind prison walls and turning prison sentences into death sentences for 2.3 million people.

startsmall’s donation will be included in its opensource document, which publicly highlights the financial grants that the organization has provided to groups combatting the COVID-19 crisis.

According to published reports, after two separate autopsies, it was determined that there was no foul play in the death of Gavin Porter and his death has officially been ruled a suicide by hanging. After receiving the news last week, Perry took to his Instagram to share an official statement regarding the decision.

”I spoke with Dr. Michael Baden today after he finished the autopsy on my nephew. I was relieved to hear that he is 98% sure that there is no foul play in his death, just as Sheriff Gates stated,” Perry wrote. “Answers don’t take away grief, but they surely give room for grieving to take its course.”

UPDATE

A post shared by Tyler Perry (@tylerperry) on

As previously reported, Gavin Porter was found dead in his Louisiana jail cell on Tuesday from an apparent suicide by hanging in his cell at the Union Parish Detention Center at Farmerville, Louisiana.

Porter was placed in solitary confinement after getting into an altercation with another inmate over the weekend. Guards state that Porter was alive when guards checked on him around 6 p.m. on Tuesday and noted that they found nothing alarming, but when guards came back to Porter’s cell at 8 p.m. the same night, they discovered him dead by hanging.

After the news broke, Tyler Perry took to his Instagram to issue a statement that while the family was grieving they wanted to be sure that it was a suicide and not a murder/coverup, which led to the family requesting a second autopsy.

”Three days ago, I got the horrible news that [my nephew] allegedly committed suicide in prison. I say allegedly because, unfortunately our criminal justice system and prisons have been notorious for cover ups and/or getting it wrong,” Perry wrote.”I want to be clear that we are not a family of conspiracy theorists, and we want to believe that there was no foul play just as the sheriff has stated publicly.”

Gavin Porter was 26.

Jay-Z, Yo Gotti Launch 2nd Lawsuit Against Mississippi Prison

The conditions of a Mississippi prison were so awful that Jay-Z and Yo Gotti joined forces to file a lawsuit on behalf of the inmates housed there. A second lawsuit has been filed, putting pressure on officials at the prison to address the long list of issues and concerns that plague the facility.

As reported by CBS News, the lawsuit against the Mississippi State Penitentiary in Parchman was filed on Wednesday (Feb. 25) details the “barbaric” conditions of the prison. According to the suit’s notes, prisoners claim that they have to treat their own injuries, insert catheters without assistance, and are denied medicine to treat conditions such as seizures.

“The conditions of confinement at Parchman are so barbaric, the deprivation of health and mental health care so extreme, and the defects in security so severe, that the people confined at Parchman live a miserable and hopeless existence confronted daily by imminent risk of substantial harm in violation of their rights afforded by the U.S. Constitution,” the complaint reads in part.

Jay-Z, born Shawn Carter and Yo Gotti, born Mario Mims, also took out full-page ads in the New York Times and the Clarion-Ledger to publish an open letter towards Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves, part of which can be read below.

From the open letter:

There have been nearly two-dozen senseless deaths since December 29th, along with countless injuries and untold cases of mental and physical terrorism inflicted upon the inmates. Given those tragedies, if you don’t act decisively, Parchman will soon be the site of a human catastrophe the likes of which the United States hasn’t seen in a generation.

And so we call on you again, even more loudly and urgently: shut down this facility—which has become a shameful symbol of society’s moral decay—until it is safe for the inmates and the prison staff.

Tyler Perry’s Family is Questioning His Nephew’s Suicide While in Jail… Especially, After Being Disciplined for a Fight Days Before…

Johnson and most recently our beloved B. Smith.

But we have recently heard about the
death of Tyler Perry’s nephew Gavin Porter. On Tuesday, February 25th

Team Roc Exposes Terrible Conditions Of Mississippi’s Parchman Prison

Team Roc, Roc Nation‘s philanthropy division, have used their reach to expose the horrendous conditions inside a prison in Mississippi. Yo Gotti and Jay-Z are leading a charge to bring light to what inmates housed in Parchman Prison via a number of photos and video footage.

TMZ
reports that Team Roc obtained footage from some of the inmates’ cell phones, which is an illegal possession in prison, that is shocking to the core. One clip shows a brawl between inmates that concluded in one man being stabbed, while another showed the unsanitary conditions of a cell that didn’t even have running water.

Yo Gotti and Team Roc filed a lawsuit against Parchman Prison officials on the behalf of 29 inmates and an emergency restraining order, which was reportedly turned down in federal court.

Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves announced that his administration will shut down just one portion of the crumbling prison, presumably due to a lack of adequate staff members serving the area. However, Gotti says this is a welcome gesture but doesn’t cover the needs of prisoners in full.

“Governor Reeves’ plan to close down a Parchman prison unit that has caused devastating deaths is a necessary first step,” Gotti told TMZ. “Beyond that, he must implement broader safety measures to address similar issues in other units and urgently provide inmates with medical attention. In the interim, we’re calling for the Department of Justice to step in, move the Parchman inmates to federal prisons and ensure their immediate well-being.”

Watch the footage shared by Team Roc below. A Warning: some of the images may be disturbing.
