Bill Cosby Wants Smoke with Howard University

Bill Cosby's Rep Announces Livestream of Upcoming Appeal Hearing

Bill Cosby’s surprise release from prison due to a violation of due process has made waves across the world. The tv star and comedian was in prison for sexual assault and once he was released, his The Cosby Show co-star, Phylicia Rashad, celebrated the moment.

Rashad ended up retracting the statement leading to Cosby taking aim at the university.

“Howard University you must support ones Freedom of Speech (Ms. Rashad), which is taught or suppose to be taught everyday at that renowned law school, which resides on your campus,” he said.

It went on to read, “This mainstream media are the Insurrectionists, who stormed the Capitol. Those same Media Insurrectionists are trying to demolish the Constitution of these United State of America on this Independence Day. No technicality — it’s a violation of ones rights & we the people stand in support of Ms. Phylicia Rashad.”

Cosby is also currently using the #BillCosbyDidntAdmit[shit] hashtag on Twitter.

Howard University Addresses Phylicia Rashad’s Tweet Supporting Bill Cosby

Howard University Addresses Phylicia Rashad's Tweet Supporting Bill Cosby

Howard University denounced Phylicia Rashad’s tweet supporting Bill Cosby.

Rashad is in the hot seat after publicly standing in solidarity with her on-screen husband after his rape conviction was overturned.

The actress was recently appointed as the dean of fine arts at the historically Black university, but the institution issued an official statement saying Rashad’s personal stance doesn’t reflect their beliefs.

“Survivors of sexual assault will always be our priority,” the statement said. “While Dean Rashad has acknowledged in her follow-up tweet that victims must be heard and believed, her initial tweet lacked sensitivity towards survivors of sexual assault.”

The university added that “personal positions of University leadership do not reflect Howard University’s policies.”

“We will continue to advocate for survivors fully and support their right to be heard,” they said. “Howard will stand with survivors and challenge systems that would deny them justice. We have full confidence that our faculty and school leadership will live up to this sacred commitment.”

Howard University didn’t announce plans to take action against Phylicia Rashad, who followed up with her own statement after publishing the controversial tweet.

“I fully support survivors of sexual assault coming forward,” Rashad said in a follow-up tweet. “My post was in no way intended to be insensitive to their truth. Personally, I know from friends and family that such abuse has lifelong residual effects. My heartfelt wish is for healing.”

Do you think HU should strip the beloved TV mom of her position?

Get your umbrella sista here comes the sh*t shower. I am outraged that he has been released. Yes he is an old ass guilty man!”

Screen Shot 2021 06 18 at 8.10.26 AM

The virtual one-hour special featured respected voices from the worlds of politics, media, academia, community activism, and entertainment who shared insights and perspectives regarding the importance of Juneteenth. Panel guests included:

  • Trae tha Truth – 2021 recipient of Billboard Changemaker Award for his social activism. American rapper, songwriter, record executive and activist from Houston, Texas says you “don’t have to be qualified” to have a voice and shares how he’s “always spoke up” for his people: “Sometimes you have to step up and get involved. Like when I leave the house, from whether it’s for George Floyd, or Breonna Taylor, or anybody I understand there’s a chance I’m not coming back home and I’m prepared for that for my people.”
  • Phylicia Rashad – Famed American actress, singer, stage director, and newly appointed Dean of Fine Arts at Howard University. Participant in the Juneteenth Unityfest event reflects on the world uniting to stand for human rights and said “One of the most gratifying days in life that I remember was at the heels of the George Floyd tragedy. And that was the day that people around the world, without a single leader, without an organization, without an arranged affair, came out into their streets, wherever they were in the world to stand for the dignity of every human being..That was the day that the light shone brightly. The light in every human heart..That was a day and there was no political agenda, there was no political party, there was no self-interest group, nobody funded anything. The people came out because of the light in their hearts to stand for the decency of humanity. I was so grateful to see that day.”
  • Ms. Opal Lee – The 94-year-old activist and lifelong Texan who has campaigned to make June 19th a national holiday for years talks about Juneteenth’s inclusive empowerment: “It’s more than a festival..and it’s more than just black families. • April Ryan – White House Correspondent, CNN Political Analyst, D.C. Bureau Chief for TheGrio, author, and speaker comments on the lack of apologies for the atrocities inflicted on Black Americans: “The wrong has not been corrected. There’ve been apologies to so many communities for issues, the atrocities that happened to them, however, we are still uncovering, discovering, and pushing, but not knowing what to be done to change the dynamic..We have to understand that we are that part of history that I founding fathers talked about. They didn’t imagine us being a part of it, but when they say we the people, we are we the people. And we are still forming a more perfect union.. We cannot be afraid to correct the wrongs.”
  • Dr. Daina Ramey Berry – Chairperson of the History Department at University of Texas at Austin with a PhD in African American Studies speaks about uncovering the gruesome history of black bodies in medicine: “I think, the thing that surprised me in the last five years was to learn that after enslaved people died, some of their bodies were sold as part of a cadaver trade, and they were sold to medical schools for anatomical research. And that floored me because I didn’t understand why I had not learned that in graduate school. I didn’t understand why that was not part of history books. It’s not a pleasant memory. It’s not a pleasant history, but people use our bodies to learn about human anatomy and most medical students for the first 30 or 40 years of medical school research were learning on black bodies.”

The special airs on Saturday at 2:00pm and Sunday at 11:00am ET on SiriusXM Urban View, channel 126.

Everyone’s TV Mom, Phylicia Rashad Tells Why She’s Not on Social Media, “Everyone Need Not Know You Personally”

The Hip-Hop community has come to one consensus. Mutually, we all agree that Phylicia Rashad is our mom… our TV mom anyways…. and so when she went on Sway in The Morning and he asked her about if she is on social media… her response was something that we should all take to heart.

“No.” She responds to Sway. “My mother said that ‘people need not know you personally.’ Everyone need not know you personally.”

She continues with her signature Claire Huxtable cut-eye, “I think social media has given some anonymous people a very loud voice.”

“And you just need to be a little careful about yourself and what you are putting out there.”

Tyler Perry adds that this why no one has seen his son. Even though the young Perry is five years old, his father has opted to allow the child some anonymity while he can have it.

“I refuse to put him in this place of… throw[ing] you to the world [by] putting your picture everywhere.” Perry continues. “… He doesn’t even know who he is just yet.”

The two were on Sway Calloway’s Sway in The Morning radio show on Sirius Radio with the rest of the cast for Perry’s new show, “A Fall From Grace” that drops on Netflix on January 17th.

Tyler Perry and the cast of A Fall From Grace, Crystal Fox, Bresha Webb, and Phylicia Rashad, visited the Sway in Morning show to promote this new and apparently unpredictable story.

The interview also provides a platform for Tyler Perry to respond to his critics that have taken shots about him writing his own scripts and speaks on giving other people the opportunity people as they push to get into the industry.

Check out her remarks around the 20-minute mark.
