While many Americans are coping with social distancing and the financial strain of the pandemic, Oprah Winfrey is joining the legion of celebrities who have teamed up to aid in relief.

On Thursday (Apr 2), during a conversation with Chef José Andrés and Claire Babineaux-Fontenot for this week’s episode of her series “Oprah Talks COVID-19” on AppleTV+, Oprah was so impressed by the groundwork the two were doing to support those with food insecurity, that she committed to donating $1 Million to America’s Food Fund as a part of her overall $10 million donations to various COVID-19 related relief efforts in communities around the country.

In a caption on her Instagram page, Oprah shares why she felt compelled to give to the organization while offering a sincere thanks to those with the passion to help.

“I was struck by the work these organizations are doing and while everyone’s priority right now is to stay safer at home, I know there are many of us looking for ways to help,” Oprah said. “I believe that America’s Food Fund will be a powerful way to make a difference for our neighbors in need and am committing $1 million to this fund to support those facing food insecurity. I am donating $10 million overall to help Americans during this pandemic in cities across the country and in areas where I grew up.”

Bill Gates Steps Down From Microsoft Board of Directors

Tech Billionaire Bill Gates is stepping down from the Microsoft Board of Directors to focus on philanthropy full time according to new reports.

According to Axios, the Microsoft founder wants to focus on global health and education humanitarian efforts. Gates and his wife Melinda started the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation that focuses their philanthropy on education, disease, agricultural development and more.

The 64-year-old leaves the Microsoft board with a net worth of more than $100 billion. In 2006, Gates stepped down from working for Microsoft full time to focus on the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

The Xbox creator is not fully removed from the company at this time. Gates will still serve as the technology advisor to current Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella who took over for Bill in 2006.

In a statement on Friday, Nadella said the Microsoft board “benefited from Bill’s leadership and vision” while continuing to use his “technical passion and advice to drive our products and services forward.”

French Montana Funds Preschool Classrooms In Morocco

french Montana has never had a problem letting the world know that he’s African, but he also reminds himself and his hometown by giving back to his roots.

As one of Bod Boy Records’ premiere artists, French Montana, whose real name is Karim Kharbouch, has created many successful opportunities from inside of the studio, but his out of the booth opportunities are almost unprecedented.

Montana has donated enough capital to the Sabae School of Fida-Mers Sulta in his home country of Morocco to fund two brand new classrooms full of supplies to last its students a few years.

This isn’t French’s first philanthropic endeavor this year, having donated all proceeds from #FamousRemix to the Uganda Health Center, which is a maternity and children’s health clinic.

When asked about his philanthropy, Karbouch told CNN,

“I feel like every woman and child deserves the right healthcare. It shouldn’t be a privilege it should be a right.”
