Meek Mill is on notice after unknown vandals spray-painted his grandmother’s home with a term that is reportedly connected to neo-Nazi groups and the like. The incident took place in South Philadelphia, and Meek has responded angrily to the act itself.

The Blast reports:

Sources close to the rapper tell The Blast Meek is currently filing a report with Philadelphia police after discovering someone tagged a hate-fueled word outside his grandmother’s house Monday night in South Philadelphia.

Meek posted surveillance video of the crime on Tuesday, which showed a light-skinned man approaching the building to write “ACORN.”

Acorn, we’re told, is Philly slang for “white privilege,” and may hold other symbolic meanings in Neo-Nazi groups.

“A white man sprayed a racial remarks on my Grandmom’s house last night in south philly referencing white Privileged,” Meek revealed, adding that, “the crazy part is this was a all black neighborhood 20 years ago It was gentrified and now this! Just don’t let us catch you coward!”

The outlet adds that the home was one of many other targeted this past Monday (Dec. 17) but it isn’t clear if there’s a direct link.

A Philadelphia songwriter was awarded a total of $44 million after a lawsuit he filed against music producers over the use of music he created for an Usher song. Daniel Marino claimed in his suit that he built the bulk of the song that would become Usher’s “Bad Girl” from his 2004 album Confessions, and said he was frozen out of profiting from the recording.

Philly.com reports:

Daniel Marino was awarded the sum in Philadelphia Common Pleas Court last week, when a jury issued a verdict ordering defendant William Guice to pay $6.75 million in compensatory damages and $20.25 million in punitive damages.

The verdict joined a settlement earlier last week in which Destro Music Productions, owned by codefendant Dante Barton, agreed to pay Marino $17.35 million as part of a stipulated judgment, bringing his total award to $44.35 million. Marino also received a third of the ownership rights to the song in question, a transcription of court proceedings in the settlement indicated. Guice, Barton, and Destro were represented by attorney Jason C. Berger of Margolis Edelstein

According to a civil complaint, between 2001 and 2002, Marino worked with Guice and Barton to create and record “Club Girl,” a song that would later be recorded and released by Usher on his 2004 album, Confessions, retitled as “Bad Girl.” Marino, who was represented by Francis Alexander attorney Francis Malofiy, said via the complaint that he created a majority of the song, including its guitar hook, tempo, chord progression, and other elements, while Barton and Guice added a beat and lyrics, respectively.

Ouch.

Songwriters and producers, get your paperwork right before you’re looking at a big bill like this.

Philadelphia rapper and certified goon AR-Ab and eight others were indicted on federal drug charges on Thursday (Oct. 18). Most might remember AR-Ab got a mention in Drake’s infamous “Back To Back” diss track aimed at Meek Mill with the Dream Chasers star also involved in some past funk with Ab.

U.S. Attorney William M. McSwain issued a statement announcing AR-Ab, real name Abdul Ibrahim West, and his co-conspirators, one of whom has been linked to Ab’s Original Black Hustlaz rap collective.

From the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Eastern District of Pennsylvania:

The following individuals, all of Philadelphia, have been charged:

Abdul West, a/k/a “Assault Rifle Ab,” “AR-Ab,” “El Patron,” “the Goon,”
Jamaal Blanding, a/k/a “Bionickhaz,” “Khaz,” “Deangelo Smith,”
Jameel Hickson, a/k/a “Meliano,” “OG,”
Richard Chase Hoover, a/k/a “Boog,”
Dontez Stewart, a/k/a “Taz,”
Amir Boyer, a/k/a “Mulla,”
Daryl Baker, a/k/a “Shotti,”
Hans Gadson, a/k/a “NoBrakes Bras,” and
Dennis Harmon.

The superseding indictment charges a conspiracy to distribute 5 kilograms or more of cocaine, 280 grams or more of crack, 50 grams or more of methamphetamine, and 100 grams or more of heroin. The superseding indictment also includes individual charges of possession with intent to distribute cocaine, methamphetamine, crack, and heroin; distribution of methamphetamine; and a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm.

The press statment goes on to add that AR-Ab was the ringleader of the drug gang. The feds were on the tail of the group since March of 2017 until June of this year, monitoring a flow of drugs from California and the spread of the operation across North Philadelphia.

If convicted, AR-Ab and the others are looking at major jail time.

Meek Mill loves the kids. After donating 6,000 backpacks to Philly students in August, the “Stay Woke” rapper is back at it again, giving back to his community and making sure the neighborhood kids have nice things.

According to TMZ, he partnered with Roc Nation and PUMA to refurbish and repaint an old basketball court that has a special place in his heart. “The rapper is set to announce plans to renovate a basketball court at East Fairmount Park in North Philly. Meek specifically chose that park because it’s the neighborhood where he grew up,” TMZ reports.

Meek Mill told the gossip news site, “North Philly will always be home. When kids go to East Fairmount Park, they deserve to ball in the best conditions possible, so I’m glad they’ll have that opportunity now.”

Plans for the new and improved court are reportedly set to be unveiled in a few days, so stay tuned. In the meantime, you can also look forward to Meek Mill’s upcoming performance at the annual Tidal: X benefit concert in Brooklyn later this month. While making the announcement on Instagram, the budding activist commented “Our criminal justice system is broken. Now is our time to #REFORM.”

We salute him.
