Virgil Abloh continues to shine as one of fashions hottest names. In a recent article he names Skateboard P as the creative that shaped his approach the most.

As spotted on Complex the designer spoke to The New York Times for a piece titled The African-American Art Shaping the 21st Century which highlights 35 Black artists and pieces of work that influenced them the most. The Chicago Native pointed the critically acclaimed but still highly slept on debut from N.E.R.DIn Search Of…

“There’s an interview where [Pharrell Williams] classically said, The album is too white for black radio and too black for white radio,” he said. “As a kid growing up in the suburbs of Chicago, skateboarding and finding my own identity, it resonated with me more than Hip-Hop on its own. [It said] that it was fine to be in between. And I think that has described a whole generation of young black kids and artists who have since been determined to be themselves and jump through that door that was opened by Pharrell.”

Abloh went on to why that album means so much for the culture. “The prototype at the time was that you had to be a thug or an athlete or a rapper. And then he came along with a different panache as a producer, an artist, a tastemaker, an individual. That sort of held a mirror up for me — it was a new prototype, and it came with a new sound. A lot of the freedom that exhibits in my practice is of that same sort of risk-taking.”

One of music’s most influential and dominant production teams are coming back together. It has been confirmed The Neptunes are reuniting.

As spotted on Hypebeast Chad Hugo has confirmed the dynamic duo is once again forming like Voltron. In a new interview with Clash the co-founder of N.E.R.D. spoke to about getting back with Pharrell to do music. To hear him tell it they have already hit the ground running. “I’m focusing on The Neptunes stuff, getting back on The Neptunes grind. We’re doing a couple of things” he revealed.

He would go on to say that the two have already done tracks for some noted artists. “There’s a video game soundtrack that’s in the works right now that I can’t speak about, I’m not supposed to, but uh, it’s in the works right now. We just did some work with Miley Cyrus, Jay-Z, Blink 182, Lil Uzi Vert, Brandy, Ray-J, Snoh Alegra, G-Eazy…”.

This comes as surprise to many of their fans as the two have not collaborated as a unit in many years. In 2004 Skateboard P officially pursued his solo career and went on to drop two albums In My Mind and Girl. In 2014 his song “Happy” hit number one on several charts.

Pharrell is once again pushing the boundaries of culture and fashion in one fell swoop. His newest magazine feature is a bold proclamation to say the least.

As the face of GQ’s November edition P is attempting to change the macho narrative. Dubbed the “New Masculinity Issue” the Virginia native is pictured sporting a Moncler 1 sleeveless poncho that hangs to the floor giving the look a ball gown vibe.

In the story the In My Mind author explains his stance on what the definition of being manly is. “Some of my old songs, I would never write or sing today. I get embarrassed by some of that stuff. It just took a lot of time and growth to get to that place,” he revealed. “‘Blurred Lines’ opened me up. I didn’t get it at first…lyrically,I was like, What are you talking about?… And then I realized that there are men who use that same language when taking advantage of a woman, and it doesn’t matter that that’s not my behavior. Or the way I think about things.”

Skateboard also detailed his spiritual awakening over the last couple of years and how will use his celebrity voice to invoke change. “I think this is a way that I can speak up at a time where we’re in the middle of a spiritual plight” he explained.

He also made it clear that he supports the LGBT+ community in their crusade for equal rights and representation. “They feel like their body is not connected to their spirit. And what kind of toxic environment do we live in that they have to justify how they feel? That must feel incredibly insane.”

A first for Gentleman’s Quarterly the “New Masculinity Issue” also looks across the culture at how modern masculinity is not a monolith but a beautiful, varied and ever-evolving spectrum. Comedian Jaboukie Young-White, photographer Collier Schorr, #MeToo founder and activist Tarana Burke, basketball star Kevin Love, rapper Killer Mike, comedian Hannah Gadsby, filmmaker John Waters, author Clint Smith, actor Asia Kate Dillon and more round out the Voices of New Masculinity package, a section of essays, mini profiles, and Q+As punctuated by a commissioned survey that lays down statistics of the movement.

“The New Masculinity Issue” hits newsstands October 15. You can read the feature in full here.

Rihanna just trolled all 73 million of her Instagram followers by teasing herself for not releasing new music for the year in clever fashion. However, it appears that Pharrell Williams is possibly working with Bad Girl RiRi on the new project in some capacity, which oddly enough had some of her Navy fans upset.

This past Thursday (July 11), Rihanna posted an image of Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta star Karlie Redd in where she shows off a lie detector reading stating the words, “Guys it was all a lie.” The video was the punchline for the Barbadian superstar to poke fun at herself in promising her Navy faithful that new music is coming.

Nobody: Me: Album coming in 2019 Navy in July:

A post shared by badgalriri (@badgalriri) on

However, folks creeping in the comments saw Pharell comment “They ain’t ready” thus prompting a strange response on Twitter Saturday (July 13) morning. Both Pharell and Rihana’s names have been trending on the social media network, with some fans wondering if the promised reggae album from the singer is still in the works and what Skateboard P could actually bring to the table.

Keep in mind, these two have worked out hits in the past, most recently 2017’s “Lemon” single. The beef from the stans is the work Pharrell did on Ariana Grande’s 2018 album Sweetener, not realizing P has been doing this since the 1990s.

And let’s all keep in mind, this isn’t a true confirmation, just all speculation.

Check out the reactions below.

Pha-real was spotted at the Chanel Cruise 2018/19 Replica Show on Wednesday (Oct. 31) night and he was sporting a yellow hoodie plastered with Chanel logos from his line.

No word on details for the Spring 2019 collection, but don’t expect it to stay in stores very long.

Recently, Pharrell Williams sent Donald Trump a cease & desist after Cheeto thought it was good idea to play “Happy” at a rally shortly after the synagogue massacre in Pittsburgh.
