Beyoncé and Pharrell Snubbed By The Oscars

Award shows can always be an exciting time for those who create over the year and are looking to be honored. Especially if you are nominated to win at the 2020 Oscars, but that excitement may fade away when things don’t go as planned. For artists, Beyoncé and Pharell, they may not be too fond of the nomination list for the February ceremony.

Back in December, the two were on the Oscars shortlist for potential nominees but their names were nowhere to be found on the final list just dropped by the award show, this past Monday. When the Oscars shared their shortlist for the nominees of the “Best Original Song” category, both Beyoncé and Pharell made the cut. Beyoncé was nominated for her song, “Spirit” from The Lion King and Pharrell and Chad Hugo were nominated for their song “Letter to my Godfather” from The Black Godfather.

The singers that remain in the category will be Elton John and Bernie Taupin, Diane Warren, Randy Newman, Idina Menzel, and Cynthia Erivo.

Insecure actress, Issa Rae also seemed to be disappointed in the list of nominees. She announced the nominees on the official Livestream of the Academy and said: “Congratulations to those men” possibly throwing shade at the fact that women were absent from the “Best Director” category.

Pharrell Williams was most likely trying to enjoy a quiet holiday at home but found himself the target of the swatting prank at his Los Angles home. The Virginia Beach superstar becomes the latest celebrity hit by the extremely corny and humorless “joke.”

TMZ reports that Williams, 46, wasn’t home at the time of the prank being pulled. Police were called to the home around 6:30 PM local time on Monday (December 23) after getting reports that a person was shot in the stomach and in bad shape. Per protocol, the occupants in the home were searched amid their confusion and before they were alerted that they were swept up in the swatting prank mix.

The outlet adds that Lil Wayne, Diddy, Rihanna, Tom Cruise, and other stars have suffered swatting attacks. The authorities are reportedly still investigating the matter.

Pharrell Williams, Robin Thicke Ordered To Cough Up $5M To Marvin Gaye Estate

'Blurred Lines' Musicians Robin Thicke And Pharrell Williams Lawsuit By Children Of R&B Legend Marvin Gaye Trial

Pharrell Williams and Robin Thicke‘s “Blurred Lines” hit has sparked a flurry of legal back and forth between the artists and the estate of Marvin Gaye. The pair were ordered to pay $5 million to the late R&B legend’s estate over of one of his most popular dance tunes.

CNN reports:

The pair had been accused of copyright infringement for their 2013 single because of the similarities to Gaye’s 1977 hit “Got to Give It Up.”

Gaye died in 1984 after being shot to death by his father, Marvin Gay Sr. (the singer added the “e” to create his stage name).

Thicke and Williams were ordered in 2015 to pay Gaye’s estate more than $7 million, but that judgment was reduced to $5.3 million and the pair appealed the verdict.

In the recent judgment from U.S. District Judge John A. Kronstadt in California, Thicke, Williams and Williams’ More Water From Nazareth Publishing are jointly required to pay Gaye’s family damages of nearly $2.9 million.

The outlet adds that Thicke was ordered to hand over $1.7 million and Williams, by way of his publishing company, will have to pay $357,631 to the estate.
