Nvy Jonez LKR & Chop the Father Team Up Like “Undertaker vs. Kane” (EP Review)

This is the brand new collaborative EP between Brooklyn emcees NVY JONEZ LKR & Chop the Father. Both of whom have made names for themselves within the underground for quite some time at this point, most notably NVY whether it be the Chicken Spot collab EP series or his own solo output such as A.L.T.D. (Angels Loyal to Demons). However, they are joining forces & likening this occurrence to that of the best match at WrestleMania XIV in my opinion: Undertaker vs. Kane.

After the “WrestleMania XIV” intro, the title track is a rugged boom bap opener chockfull of cutthroat, gangsta, lyricism whereas “Modelo & Popeyes” works in a dreamy loop as well as kicks & snares talking about respecting you more if we make money together. “Fuego” featuring Xicano Vega takes a more suspenseful route instrumentally dedicated to everyone over 30 that’s still rocking one of my all-time favorite streetwear brands A Bathing Ape leading into “Choke Slam” featuring Kesoh admitting they have bad tempers with no patience & a morbid atmosphere to the beat. “Best Shot” featuring DFD Baby Lee gives off a twangier boom bap vibe talking about their caliber being able to make your head explode, but then “Trouble” featuring D-Rell ends the EP on a climactic note saying no one can take them down.

If you wanna hear 2 heavy-hitting MCs coming together to bring you the cage match of the century, then you’re gonna wanna give Undertaker vs. Kane a shot. Both of them match each other’s intensity the way they ping off one another, the production is predominantly rooted in the traditional boom bap sound & the features all add their own unique flavor to the experience.

“6 Piece” is the Best of Nvy Jonez LKR & D-Rell’s Ongoing ”Chicken Spot” Series (EP Review)

This is the 4th collaborative EP between New York emcees Nvy Jonez LKR & D-Rell. The later coming straight out of Harlem & the other hauling from Brooklyn. The pair started working together a couple years ago during the pandemic by kicking off a series of EPs called The Chicken Spot & releasing the first 3 installments all that summer. But after 2 years, they’re returning for a 6 Piece.

“4 KILLAZ” is a boom bap-tinged opener with RTPBoat joining Nvy & D-Rell to talk about their gangsta mentalities whereas “I.D.F.W. (I Don’t Fuck With)” with Mugga Wall shoots for a grimmer aesthetic confessing they don’t associate with people who associate themselves with people they dislike. “Street Politics 2” is a stellar yet raw sequel to the joint on 2 Piece & a Biscuit getting to the nitty gritty while the song “By Any Means” talking about doing it for their legacies over a cold instrumental. The penultimate track “G.D.2.D. (Good Day 2 Die)” incorporates some dusty drums & pianos quenching for blood & “Survive” is a triumphant closer talking about the real lasting in the end.

Although it’s almost been 2 years since the last time these guys have put out an EP with each other, 6 Piece is definitely my favorite of The Chicken Spot series thus far & I think it’s a good place to start for those who’re new to their catalogues. The chemistry from both MCs is still going strong than it was back in 2020 & the production impressively blends elements of today’s sounds with the culture’s gritty roots.

NVY JONEZ LKR – “NAVY JONEZ LOCKER” (Album Review)

Nvy Jonez LKR is an exciting new artist with a Navy background who was awarded his Expeditionary Warfare Specialist Qualification in 2019. Catching lightning in a bottle with his recent UGHHB mic session. LKR caps on the popularity with his new album, titled, Navy Jonez Locker.

Available on Ninja Punch Music, the album is supported by the latest visual “Empire State”. Nvy Jonez LKR is also inspired by the historic 1944 D-Day event. A military man, LKR pays respect to his brothers and sisters that fought for this country in the past, present and future with a bold, formidable and well-respected collection. The nine-track effort features guest spots by Raphael, Niki Bernard and Brandon F. The Album Cover was taken upon the USS Denver LPD-9 while it was stationed in Sasebo Japan.

Stream Navy Jonez Locker by Nvy Jonez LKR below, courtesy Spotify.

Production handled by Esben Thornhal, Ian Pez, Genetik and Hitmakerchinx. Setting the tone, the project’s sound is deep. Providing depth to LKR’s vocals, the production is tailor-made for him and never deflects nor hinder him from getting his point across. Like the lyrics, the project’s sound is straight forward and unfolds an attraction that fans will benefit from organically.

Lyrically, LKR’s based on true storytelling is the project’s aesthetic. Unlike most artist who relies on features to appease, LKR allowed his battle-tested story to shine through and prove that he is an artist ready to stand alongside the stars. Chronicling the harsh realities, LKR develops a body of work that will set the tone for the rising star moving forward. Extremely proud of his journey, LKR established his must-hear work on standouts “Empire State,” “Dark Knight” and “Young Tony”.

The album plays out similar to a debut season of a promising series. Shows glimpses for greatness but just needs more time to develop. LKR has the fundamental skills down and the work ethic; however, he could use more twists, turns, and surprises. He can accomplish that with more brainstorming. Adding more shock treatment will deliver a necessary impact that fans will be excited to see more of in music to follow.
