Hip-hop megastar Nicki Minaj is not only a multi-platinum rapper, but she also has tried her hand at acting. She has done voice-over work on Ice Age: Continental Drift, and she appeared in The Other Woman, and Barbershop: The Next Cut. Now the “Barbie Dreams” MC is set to lend her vocal ability to the Angry Birds 2 film. The sequel is scheduled to hit theaters on August 16th, 2019.
According to Variety, Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Bill Hader, Danny McBride, and Peter Dinklage will all reprise their roles from the first film. They are joined by Leslie Jones, Rachel Bloom, Awkwafina, Sterling K. Brown, Eugenio Derby, Lil Rel Howery, Dove Cameron, and Zach Woods. The particulars of Nicki Minaj’s role is still being worked out.
Based on the popular mobile app, the first Angry Birds film was extremely successful. It brought in $350 million worldwide on a budget of $73 million becoming the second highest-grossing film of all time to be based on a video game.
This latest news of Minaj caps off another stellar year in her storied career. She released her fourth solo LP Queen to rave reviews and is now at platinum status. Also, she became the first women in music history with 100 entries on the Billboard 100 charts.
