[WATCH] Tory Lanez and DaBaby Link Up For “SKAT”

Tori Lanez and Da Baby Skat | The Source

Tory Lanez and DaBaby link up for an energetic collaboration with “SKAT.”

Initially there was some doubt that “SKAT” would actually be released stemming from the controversy involving Houston rapper Megan Thee Stallion. When Lanez announced the song title and collaboration with DaBaby back in January, he received heavy online backlash. We’re all familiar with Meg’s accounts of her being shot in the foot by Tory last summer. Currently Lanez has pled not guilty to the charges and has continued to publicly deny involvement in Thee Stallion’s accusations. However some of her fans were still displeased with the Canadian rapper joining forces with her frequent collaborator, DaBaby. Thus leading Megan to weigh in unbothered on Twitter stating, “That sh*t was old and not cleared.”

But today Tory Lanez delivered the video all cleared.

The “SKAT” release follows Tory’s 12 track R&B project Playboy, which was released in March of 2021. Playboy spawned the emotional single “Feels” with Chris Brown, as the only featured collaboration.

Tory Lanez and DaBaby are known for bringing out of the ordinary visuals and “SKAT” is no different. On the scale of fun and catchy the video falls right at the top. Both artists actually stand out playing multiple character personas in the video.

Watch all the fun antics below in the visual for “SKAT” where Tory Lanez re-enacts Pinky’s character from the cult classic Next Friday to embody a young Michael Jackson’s aesthetic in the iconic “Thriller” video. While DaBaby is seen flexing as a boxer, priest and police officer. All while firing off his usual aggressive cadence trading bars with Tory over a victorious Nils & Foreign Tek production. “SKAT” is directed by Christian Breslauer.

Tory Lanez raps…

I ain’t got time for two things, what?

These stupid a** h**s and they feelings, ayy (Okay)

All independent, my b***ches just call and they get it

They know that this ballin’ authentic (Okay)

Chocolate vanilla get hot so I hopped out the dealer

I copped a new car and I tint it (Okay)

Smif-n-Wessun Take Boot Camp To South Beach In A Perfect Video For Summer

Back in February, Ambrosia For Heads premiered Smif-n-Wessun’s “Ocean Drive” as a part of the Boot Camp Clik duo’s latest album, The All. As Heads would later learn, the Duck Down Music release was one of SnW’s best works to date. Now the Brooklyn, New Yorkers are treating fans to the visual version of the Rapsody and Musiq Soulchild-assisted cut. The video is pretty on the nose, but composed of some beautiful shots of Tek, General Steele and Musiq pushing a drop-top white BMW down the famed South Beach, Miami drag. With an LP released during a frigid winter in New York and other northern places, this is just the right kind of vibe for the beginning of swimming pool and beach season. Smif-N-Wessun Discuss Giving 25 Years Of Their All To Hip-Hop (Video) Although Rapsody and her verse are not in the video, but it takes nothing away from the track’s conceptual escape to beautiful weather and luxury living. The mood is largely made possible by a feel-good beat courtesy of The Soul Council’s Khrysis. Toward the end, the trio is stopped by law enforcement who are star struck once they find out who they have been stopped. Even as 25-year Rap O.G.’s, Smoke and Steele are not above everyday problems facing all too many. However, once everything checks out, the Brooklyn duo and Philadelphia singer pull off into the sunset. The All was released in February and features appearances from Rick Ross and Raekwon outside of those on “Ocean Drive.” It is entirely produced by 9th Wonder and The Soul Council. Outside of its streaming availability, Duck Down Records is offering “The All” bundle packs consisting of The All digital LP, vinyl, CD, hoodie, T-shirt, beanie, sticker pack and Smif-n-Wessun & Champion Sound Live From Prague digi-album.

Murs & Locksmith Reveal How Resisting Temptation Can Be Vital To Success (Video)

Late last year, Locksmith delivered Ali. It was his fourth solo studio album and one of his more well-rounded efforts. One of the standout tracks on the project was “Stars,” featuring Murs, and it told a very interesting and personal story about Richmond, California-born MC and how he’s navigated the music business over the years, including when he steered away from a potential Aftermath deal from Dr. Dre four years ago. “In 2015 I met Dr. Dre / He told me come to the studio, I was on my way,” he raps to open the song. “A beach house that was overlooking the ocean / I should’ve been celebrating, instead had mixed emotions / On the terrace with Xzibit exhibiting what defines me / Deep down inside I’m like, ‘I hope he doesn’t ask to sign me’ / ‘Cause there’s no way I can turn down an idol / But carving my own lane to sustain, I know it’s vital / I would rival with my thoughts, am I sabotaging myself? / I could stay independent or sit on somebody’s shelf / F*ck that, I’m hardheaded, I threaded my own needle / Stitched my own career and gave fear a upheaval / If I listen to people I’ll be deeper in the red / Instead bet on myself and learned to keep myself fed. Locksmith’s State Of The Rap Union Address Is A Fiery Freestyle The video is straightforward and shows Locksmith in an abandoned warehouse complete with wooden crates and dim lighting. The two trade tales of temptation and how different situations could’ve ruined what they’ve each build for themselves. For Murs, it was his neighborhood that impacted him heavily. “Cricket told me I should find me one to wish upon / I was sittin’ home, spittin’ poems into my dictophone,” he raps. “Live from the block that my homeboys was Crippin’ on / Tryna make a dollar out of 50, they said, ‘Get the chrome!’ / Gang bangers testin’ me, gave me crack recipes / Found a different way to eat, the streets was not my destiny.Murs & 9th Wonder Have Recorded Their 7th Collabo Album. It’s Coming Soon Locksmith released Ali, titled after his middle name, on December 7, 2018. The project, aside from Murs, features Jedi Mind TricksVinnie Paz and Jarren Benton. In January, Locksmith appeared on DJ Kay Slay’s Shade 45 program and kicked some pretty vicious bars about the state of the Rap union. Last year, Murs partnered with Strange Music’s Michael “Seven” Summers for A Strange Journey Into The Unimaginable. These two MCs are going on the road together this season:

2 Chainz & Ariana Grande’s Latest Collabo Is About How Love Rules (Video)

2 Chainz has put out one of 2019’s best albums in the form of Rap Or Go To The League. One of the most acclaimed tracks from his fifth solo studio LP is “Rule The World,” which features Ariana Grande. As he continues to roll out key visuals from the project, the Atlanta, Georgia veteran just released the video for the standout collaboration with the Pop superstar. The moment is not without some noteworthy history surrounding the two performers. Directed by Sebastian Sdaigui, the visual features the two artists performing at a Los Angeles Jazz club. It may appear straightforward concept-wise, but the shots in the video are beautifully set up, and the set is very luxurious. 2 Chainz Celebrates Black Wealth & Buys The Block In His New Video Back in February, Chainz hopped on the remix of Ariana’s thank u, next song “7 rings.” The remix addition came after many fans noted strong similarities between the former TV star’s pink music video and artwork to Chainz’ Pretty Girls Like Trap Music moment “Spend It.” 2 Chainz and Ariana made peace with the situation. “In this particular case, I’ve known her manager for a very f*cking long time,” 2 Chainz said, according to Rap Genius. “So they set it up so we could actually meet and talk face-to-face… I think that kind of changed everything because I started getting what was going on, having a clear understanding of what was going on. She was more or less saying that, ‘Well, yeah, I thought people knew I took it from you.’” In the wake of that understanding and the subsequent remix, the pair made this song all about love. LeBron James Has Coached 2 Chainz On 1 Of His Most Soulful & Lyrical Songs (Audio)Fell in love with a real one, this a dedication / Had ’em patiently waitin’ for a revelation / Even when I ain’t around, ain’t no separation / Your skin’s smooth, your eyes brown and you’re far from basic / Then we go to different places with no suitcases / But when we come back, we got suitcases / Right now I use love for a medication / Back in the day I’d shoot Cupid with no hesitation / I got more than 40 acres for my reparations / P*ssy on my navigation, that’s my destination,2 Chainz spits after the chorus. Rap Or Go To The League, which debuted at #4, was released earlier this month. In addition to Ariana, the project involves a myriad of heavy-hitters including 9th Wonder, Travis Scott, Lil Wayne, Ty Dolla Sign, and Kendrick Lamar, among others. Lebron James served as an A&R to his friend’s latest Def Jam LP. Ariana Grande released thank u, next back in February. Last week, 2 Chainz dropped the visual for “Money In The Way.”

Stro Is With Nas Now & He’s Ready For Mass Appeal (Video)

Booklyn’s Stro The MC signed to Mass Appeal last October. It was the culmination of several years of work, and now the New York spitter is releasing his first content of the new year. Off of his Mass Appeal-released Nice 2 Meet You, Again EP, the rapper formerly known as Astro drops the video for “Waters.”

The first half of the visual mostly centralizes on Stro’s lyrical ability, which seemingly extends beyond his years (no surprise why Nas is a fan). He’s driving his BMW SUV around the neighborhood at night and delivering some braggadocio bars which complement the vibe so well. The delivery features an inflection in his voice at the top of each bar, making it unique. In the second half, the beat switches up, and Stro hops out of his vehicle and continues his lyrical assault.

Stro Runs Through 7 Minutes Of Classic Beats In 1 Of The Year’s Best Freestyles (Video)

He closes in strong stride. “All of my bars prevail, you’re stuck in jail / Like nudes in the 90’s, so much p*ssy in the mail / Nowadays, my generation operatin’ through feminine ways / A dedicated MC before I heard it pays / But now, ain’t nothin’ free, dog / Need a couple G’s at least f*ckin’ with me, dog / I’m ill, actin’ like you don’t see, dog / But you a wolf, I know you’re pre, dog / I’m on that ass like toilet seat / I’m fly, plus I keep a lil shum shum like toiletries / And I deliver like they order me / This beat is wavy, I just came to test the waters, nothin’ more to see.” Stro has reached a new plateau, and approaching a decade after he appeared on Sha Stimuli’s My Soul To Keep album as a juvenile, he’s through working pro bono.

According to the Stro, Nice 2 Meet You, Again was a major transition for him both in his personal life and professionally. “[It] represents a new me and a new beginning,” he told Billboard‘s Carl Lamarre at the time of the project’s release. “There was a lot of ups and downs creating this project, but through the grace of God I’m able to say I got it done.”

Nas Throws His Hands Up In Solidarity With Those Unjustly Killed By Cops

Stro follows a lineage of lyrical MCs Nas and his team have signed over the years. Mass Appeal has worked with Run The Jewels, Gangrene, Dave East, DJ Shadow, as well as the late J Dilla and Pimp C. Stro joins Fashawn, Ezri, Cantrell, and 070 Phi on a label tour, beginning next month:

Reason Shows He Stands With TDE’s Finest By Freestyling On Kendrick & Jay Rock Beats

Top Dawg Entertainment artist Reason has proven that he has bars, but he’s also shown that he can use his lyrical ability to make great music as well. He showcased such ability on 2017’s There You Have It, an independent project which was remastered and re-released earlier this year by TDE. The yearning to freestyle hasn’t left the latest addition to the championship squad. H recently stopped by Los Angeles’ Power 106 to kick some bars for the L.A. Leakers.

After a short intro, the Carson, California native got busy, and quickly. He decided to being with going the braggadocio route. “Had to hustle with the quickest precision,” Reason raps over fellow Top Dawg MC Kendrick Lamar’s instrumental for “Element.”Now it’s toast ’cause we made it ni**a, off them blocks in the hood / And now it’s Jill Scott, the top lookin’ good / From the bottom but headed high / A couple ni**as takin’ shots, we let it slide.

Reason’s Video Shows The Nightmares That Come With Living A Gangsta Life

Later, the beat switched over to Jay Rock’s “Parental Advisory” and Reason decided to give his Rap crew some shine. “F*ck all that aimin’ for chest, we head hunters,” he raps. “TDE in your city got the industry scared of us / Look that ain’t braggin’ that’s just straight facts done leveled up / I got my pockets gaining weight back they blowin’ paper.

Earlier this month, Reason dropped a video for his song “Colored Dreams.” In November, he was featured in a XXL magazine freestyle video as a part of their “What I Do” series and interestingly focused on women and his relationship with them. “Mom’s been preaching lately how I should respect women,” he raps. “But, mama, they don’t respect their own.” Reason was also a part of October’s BET Hip-Hop Awards cyphers, joining Flawless Real Talk of Providence, Rhode Island, Casanova of Brooklyn, Shawn Smith of West Philadelphia, and Phora from Los Angeles.

Ice Cube’s Trippy Video Has One Nation Under A G-Funk Groove

Lyrical wunderkind Aesop Rock was a standout sensation during the Underground Hip-Hop boom of the late 1990s and early 2000s. His poetic imagery and didactic bars were complex conundrums that many listeners enjoyed unraveling. The MC/producer worked with the likes of MF DOOM, El-P, and the Weathermen during a celebrated time in Rap music, especially in New York.

While Aesop made his name as an artist with the Mush label, and later, on El’s Definitive Jux squad, this decade he’s been rolling with the Rhymesayers family, co-founded by Atmosphere. As recently as 2016’s The Impossible Kid, Rock has made some of his best Hip-Hop in years. He keeps the art exciting through interesting visuals, rugged flows, and compelling takes on the state of the culture.

Aesop Rock Mourns A Fallen MC & Spits Personal Bars Of Pain (Video)

Outside from his respected solo catalog, Aesop has enjoyed the craft of collaboration. The Portland, Oregon transplant has side groups/projects with fellow Weathermen alum, Cage (2 of A Kind), Homeboy Sandman (Lice), Rob Sonic & DJ Big Wiz (Hail Mary Mallon), Kimya Dawson (The Uncluded), and his latest endeavor, Malibu Ken, with producer Tobacco. The latter duo just released the video for their second single, the slightly uncomfortable and purposefully awkward “Corn Maze.”

As he is prone to do, Aesop raps about his nervous and awkward tendencies. He transforms his own experiences into a poetry so esoteric, it demands dozens of listens to decipher. The beat is similarly challenging but the fuzzy drums and synth plinks are exactly the kind of sound-bed Rock excels on.

This 2003 Conversation With MF DOOM Is The Interview Of His Career

The quirky visuals of “Corn Maze” are a handled by Rob Shaw, Aesop’s longtime videographer. The animation is clearly a tribute to Saturday morning cartoons from the early 1980s, but will likely remind many of Adventure Time as well. The plot is simple: three adventurers must unite to stop gargantuan, cyborg rat.

Aesop’s wordplay is as sharp as ever. In the second verse he raps, “In a lavish rabbit hole with no rabbits/  Young dumb dust bunnies jump into traffic / Casually gussied up and done feeling unsung and savage / Punk we have come for your cabbage / I’m bad news travel like a rat through your cabinet / Spaz Twenty paw pads full of scabs / Often a false ad full plaid all dander / Blast off black jackdaws on his antlers / Zero faithers / Wearily fear his neighbors / Some day we’ll find a way to make these billionaires obey us / Some day we’ll earn a subdivision gaudier than reprobates / Who sit around impressed and guess the order of the Tetris rain / With Biblical as reckoning / Son of surly Satan torn asunder / Private number, public urination / We socialize with pundits who encompass all the wrong stuff / I count the bread quick, I got some walls up.” The full-length album is due next month on RSE.

Earlier this month, Ice Cube released his first solo album in eight years with Everythangs Corrupt. As the title may suggest, the 30-plus-year Rap legend tackles numerous social and political issues on the project. The LP’s first single “Arrest The President” takes aim at the White House and called for handcuffing the President for illegal activities while “Chase Down The Bully,” another song on the album, attacks white supremacy as well as tribalism, including some fiery references to Unite The Right protestors in Charlottesville last year. The latest look from Everythangs Corrupt finds Cube returning to his G-Funk era while adding in a colorful splash of psychedelia. “That New Funkadelic” is a party that would make Uncle George Clinton proud.

Directed by James Larese, the video is a perfect nod to one of George Clinton’s two iconic groups, which Cube has worked with in the past (alongside Kendrick Lamar). It’s also super trippy with bright colors and numerous West Coast-related figures running through the screen. He also twists up his fingers one time for the land that he loves and has represented throughout his iconic run.

Ice Cube is coming off a performance of “That New Funkadelic” on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon where he was backed up by The Roots. Everythangs Corrupt features a musical reunion with DJ Pooh, as well as E-A-Ski, plus a guest verse from Too Short.

In addition to music, Cube confirmed earlier this year that he’s finishing up the script to Last Friday, the final film in the Friday movie series (which he co-founded with Pooh).
