We have a feeling the purple and gold will be represented well by LeBron James. His first game as a Los Angeles Laker was a success.

On Sunday, September 30 Los Angeles squared off against Denver in their preseason opener at the Staples Center. From the beginning of the game ‘Bron made it clear he wants prime billing on The Lake Show.

As ESPN noted his first official contribution to the team came in the form of a no-look assist bounce pass to Brandon Ingram which led to a slam dunk. James’ first points were also in superstar fashion as he sank a three-pointer from 26 feet away. He finished the night with nine points, three assists, and three rebounds.

The three-time champion took to Instagram to commemorate his first outing on the new team. “Can’t even front, it’s just felt different! Goosebumps! #striveforgreatness🚀 #thekidfromakron👑“.

He went on to detail his excitement in a post-game interview. “It always feels different for me anytime you change uniforms,” he explained. “It felt different when I changed from a St. Vincent-St. Mary jersey to a Cavs jersey, from a Cavs jersey to a Heat jersey, back to a Cavs jersey and now being a Laker. So, it definitely feels different, and it’ll take a little bit of time getting used to.”

The Lakers play their first official game of the 2018-2019 NBA season on October 18 against the Portland Trailblazers. Their opener is at The Staples Center on Oct. 20 against the Houston Rockets.

Basketball Cyborg Kawhi Leonard’s Creepy Laugh Has Twitter Flipping Out

Toronto Raptors host their media day before going to Vancouver for their training camp.

Kawhi Leonard has never been known for his brilliant personality, making him a perfect fit for the efficient if emotionally stoic San Antonio Spurs. In his first interview with the Toronto Raptors, the talented basketball star broke tradition with a smile and laugh that has Twitter officially creeped out.

No shots at Leonard, but him explaining at the presser that he’s a fun guy rang a little hollow considering when the Spurs won the chip in 2014 over the Miami Heat and the forward winning Finals MVP, he barely smiled or seemed to enjoy himself then.

Check out the moment below and some of the reactions in the following list of tweets. And as a bonus, we’ve added a clip of Leonard looking a lot more relaxed than we’re all giving him credit for.

Andrew Wiggins Apparently Wants Smoke With Certified NBA Goon Stephen Jackson

BIG3 - Week Nine

Source: Ronald Martinez / Getty

Of all the people in the NBA past or present to NOT offer to shoot the fade with, Stephen Jackson might be near or at the top of that list. Well, the memo didn’t get to Andrew Wiggins or his little brother as the latter took a jab at Wiggins’ Minnesota Timberwolves teammate Jimmy Butler that Jackson responded thus sparking a rather interesting beef.

Let’s take it from the top.

Butler, who was acquired in a trade from the Chicago Bulls, wants out of Minnesota fast which prompted Nick Wiggins to write “Hallelujah” in a now-deleted tweet. Jimmy Butler then posted an Instagram video with the same words from Wiggins then, in a veiled jab to the Wiggins brothers, to “keep that same energy.”

Wiggins then went to his Instagram stories to write the following: “SJ/Old dudes stay hating like he was anything special bum ass…I keep that same energy everywhere I go!”

Yeah. It goes there.

Jackson caught wind of Nick Wiggins’ dart and posted an Instagram video, complete with blown smoke and a fresh white durag, confirming that while he’s definitely 40 years of age, he was never a bum and even wished Wiggins a good upcoming season. He initially fired back by reimagining a convo between the Wiggins brothers questioning the active playing brother’s heart as Nick is not in the league.

Here’s where we’ll remind folks that Jackson is very much about that action as evidenced by him jumping into the stands to hand out fades during 2004’s Malice In The Palace incident during a Detroit Pistons game versus the Indiana Pacers.

Like we said, it’s a lot. Check out the tweets and video responses from Andrew Wiggins, Nick Wiggins, Jimmy Butler, and the Triple OG Stephen Jackson below.

Michael Jordan grew up playing basketball in Wilmington, N.C. ahead of his stellar professional career. The NBA legend donated $2 million to relief efforts in the region after Hurricane Florence battered the North Carolina coast.

Page Six reports:

The six-time NBA champion and Charlotte Hornets owner donated $2 million on Tuesday to assist residents of the Carolinas — $1 million each to the American Red Cross and the Foundation For The Carolinas’ Hurricane Florence Response Fund.

“It just hits home,” Jordan told The Associated Press in a telephone interview. “I know all of those places: Wilmington, Fayetteville, Myrtle Beach, New Bern, and Wallace, which is where my father is from. So quite naturally it hits home, and I felt like I had to act in a sense that this is my home.”

The 55-year-old Jordan said he still has an aunt, cousins and several buddies who live in coastal North Carolina. He also has a nephew who attends UNC Wilmington, which has remains closed while recovering from the damage.

Jordan typically shies away from the public spotlight on matters outside of basketball and his longstanding Jordan Brand. The Hall of Fame star says he intends to visit Wilmington at an unspecified time to visit with the team he owns, the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets, to aid in efforts on the ground.

Boston Celtics’ Jabari Bird Allegedly Strangled Girlfriend 12 Times, Taking Time Away From Team

Boston Celtics Guard Jabari Bird Arraigned On Charges Of Assault, Kidnapping

Source: Boston Globe / Getty

Boston Celtics player Jabari Bird appears to have his hands occupied with more than a basketball if new allegations ring true. The 24-year-old guard allegedly strangled his girlfriend 12 times and is now facing charges from Boston prosecutors.

TMZ Sports reports:

24-year-old Bird appeared in court in Boston on Thursday where prosecutors laid out the case against him … and the allegations are horrifying. WBZ-TV’s Beth Germano got a photo of Bird in court.

Officials say the alleged victim claims Bird terrorized her for 4 hours at his Brighton apartment — where she tried to get away from the NBA player by hiding under her bed and locking herself in her bathroom.

During the alleged altercation, the woman claims Bird strangled her at least 12 times.

She claims she tried to escape, but Bird grabbed her by the ankles and dragged her away from the door.

Officials say Bird appeared to be having “seizure-like” symptoms during the end of the attack — and that’s how she was able to leave.

The alleged assault took place on Sept. 7. Bird has since issued a statement saying he will step away from the team to not cause a distraction and address the pending legal matter.
