Moemaw Naedon & C.Scott Embrace Summer Vibes With New Video “Awesome Environment”

In their slick new video for “Awesome Environment,” Moemaw Naedon & C.Scott embrace the sunny, laidback summer vibes that inspired their collaborative album, “River Rats“, and provide a guided tour of some of Pittsburgh’s river banks. What may not look like much to the every-day viewer was a true source of inspiration, meditation, and comfort for the duo, who would meet up during the summer of 2020 for riverside hangs that served as an escape from the harsh realities of the world. The track serves as a welcome reminder that sometimes your best bet for sanity is to head outside and enjoy your surroundings.

Moemaw Naedon & C.Scott Connect with El Da Sensei of The Artifacts For “Off the Path” Video

Moewaw Naedon & C.Scott connect with El Da Sensei for the fittingly psychedelic and chaotic new video for “Off the Path,” a trippy banger off the duo’s recently released River Rats collab LP. The video feels like a bridging of the gap between two hip-hop generations that happen to share a similar love for the craft. The younger Moemaw brings his A-game with his verse and songwriting on the hook, while El storms onto the track and holds down the finishing verse. Check out the official visuals and head over to your preferred digital retailer or streaming platform to River Rats, which can also be purchased on cassette via Soul Slime Records’ Bandcamp page. Limited quantities available.

Moemaw Naedon & C.Scott – “River Rats” (Album Review)

Moemaw Naedon is a 39 year old MC/producer from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania who made his full-length debut in the fall of 2014 with the Latebloomer-produced Circular Signals. This was followed up with Hard Head Mush Brain & Dr. Deadhorse but just a couple months after dropping a collab EP alongside Calig Kontra entitled Cult Theatre, he’s enlisting C.Scott to produce his 3rd album from start to finish.

After the “Pittsburgh Thril” intro, the first song “Awesome Environment” is a slick boom bap opener talking about having one too many drinks whereas “Space Log” has a more synth-funk vibe advising those not to kick the mic when they spit their last bar. After the “Midnight Rapper” interlude, JM the Poet tags along for the meditative “Owls in the Sun” to say they feel like they’re just getting starting just before Dinosaur Burps takes JM’s place on the aggressive “Summer in the Muck”.

After the “Where You Wander” & “Scene Before” interludes, “Hardly New Havoc” speaks on how shit ain’t really new with a moodier instrumental leading into the psychedelic “Off the Path” as Moemaw & El Da Sensei deliver a lyrical onslaught. The song “Death Shots” is a guitar ballad with the Galactic Brethren reuniting like it’s nothing & after the “Weird Places Heavy Stories” interlude, the penultimate track “Ringing Bells” takes a jazzier direction saying the reflections in puddle are to muddy to tell. “Pardon Angels” later ends the album with a beautiful instrumental piece.

Of all of Moemaw’s solo efforts, River Rats could very well be his best one yet. I think the number of interludes are a tad bit annoying, but his lyrics are amongst his most thoughtful & C. Scott knocks it out of the park in terms of the production.

Score: 8/10

Moemaw Naedon – “Dr. Deadhorse” (Album Review)

Since covering Moemaw Naedon back in 2015 with his video, “A Passing Face”, to half a decade later with, “Slime Volcanoes” featuring Calig Kontra, the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania based rapper/producer has proved his consistency hasn’t slowed down. He has evolved into a stand out emcee and beat maker through out the years, and now his album, “Dr. Deadhorse” finally dropped this month. Consisting of 12-tracks, the only thing I have to say is DAMN! Probably one of the dopest underground projects out right now. I hate comparing rappers, but I feel this album is like a Dr. Octagon record on steroids. That’s a compliment in my mind when it comes down to that hard hitting underground Hip Hop.

Let’s get right into the intro and self titled track, “Dr. Deadhorse”. Moemaw Naedon shows you why he is also known as Dr. Deadhorse painting a abstract image pretty much bringing his album cover to life without needed an actual video. His bar heavy lyrics over the beat is perfect as he warms up the album before listening to the rest following with a short 1 and a half minute track, “Zoom”. “My Great Odin’s Raven”, he describes how he separates himself from the rest of the rappers in the game. He hope’s you judge him off your own evaluation, and what I see is a hungry rapper showing off his superior skills on the mic only a few currently can match.

Skipping to “Cookin’ Again”, I like how he switches up the vibe on a smooth beat complimenting the song with a fast flow you definitely need to keep up to. If you miss a line, be sure to put the song on repeat. “Vamanos” featuring DJ ADMC, he gives the DJ time to shine in the end which every dope Hip Hop album should have. When you think about original styles in Hip Hop, “Shadowrun” stand out featuring fellow rhyme spitter Brother Seamus.

If Sway and Tech was still running how they use to, I can definitly see them spinning “Backpack Fuse” as that classic type song off “Dr. Deadhorse”. Being a backpacker myself in the younger days, I sure do appreciate this track reminding me of the golden era days hitting graff bombs in the streets of Los Angeles bumping songs on my headphones like this. There are still songs off the album I didn’t cover, now it’s up to you to listen to the rest. I score Moemaw Naedon’s new album a 8/10. My reason? It’s just that raw Hip Hop I’ve been craving for!

Moemaw Naedon – “Slime Volcanoes” Ft. Calig Kontra (Video)

Moemaw Naedon presents the visuals for his hard hitting collab with New Orleans native Calig Contra, as featured on his new LP, ‘Dr. Deadhorse.’ The duo straight-up body the murky, snarling production from Naedon, which evokes a mystique of Kool Keith meets Soul Assassins with their own distinctive twist. The GPC Films-directed visuals uses psychedelic effects as the two put their artistic chemistry on full display. And as it turns out, fans have more music from these two lyricists to look forward to as Naedon confirms that a forthcoming EP is in the works. Check out the visuals and head over to your preferred digital retailer or streaming platform to support, ‘Dr. Deadhorse,’ available now via Soul Slime Records. In addition, 140 limited-edition vinyl copies are available exclusively through Moemaw’s Bandcamp page.

Moemaw Naedon – “Slime Volcanoes” Ft. Calig Kontra

“Slime Volcanoes” is an absolute bruiser of a track from Pittsburgh-based rapper/producer Moemaw Naedon and his guest, grimy New Orleans emcee Calig Kontra. But the best part about it? This could be the start of something collaborative from these two. Naedon describes the song as “a self-produced wrecking ball that I’ve been hyped to release for sometime now.” He also goes on to say that it’s an “introduction to what happens when me and this New Orleans mic annihilator get together.” So yeah, let’s cross our fingers that this is only the beginning. Beyond building the potential hype for a duo release from Naedon and Kontra, “Slime Volcanoes” is a force of nature all on its own. It’s also the latest we’re hearing from Naedon’s upcoming album, Dr. Deadhorse, which is sounding like pure fire so far. His production on this cut is some of his best yet, and it demonstrates just how much he’s developed as an artist over the past 7 years or so. His bars are as on point as ever too, and he and Kontra prove to be quite the tag team with their back-to-back verses here. “Slime Volcanoes” is available now through all major digital retailers and streaming platforms, while Dr. Deadhorse arrives on all major DSPs next Monday, June 1 and can be pre-ordered now via iTunesAmazon and Google Play through Soul Slime Records.
