Minnesota Timberwolves to Pay Homage to Prince With New City Edition Uniforms

The Minnesota Timberwolves may just have the best City Edition uniforms of any team this season. Revealed by The Ringer, the upcoming jersey adopts a purple color scheme, which seemingly pays tribute to the late musical icon and Minnesota legend Prince, who died on April 21, 2016. The font used on the uniform also bears a resemblance to Prince and The Revolution’s 1984 album (and the film) Purple Rain.

Not much is currently known about the upcoming purple Timberwolves uniforms but keep it locked as more information, such as a release date and pricing, filter out.

As we saw last year, the City Edition uniforms typically pay tribute to the state or region represented by the team. The unis allow teams to get very creative and think out-of-the-box when it comes to their alternate uniforms. We’ve already seen a wide variety of City unis that deviate from traditional looks, and many of them have been received quite well.  Prince is known for his flair and vocals, but he’s also known for his love of basketball and the Timberwolves.

It’s unknown which games the Wolves will be donning the Prince-themed City Edition uniforms but we expect more information when the organization officially unveils the design in the near future. It has been reported that teams across the league will unveil their special City Edition jerseys in the second week of November.
