[WATCH] Warren G Speaks on Being Pressed by Suge Knight for Telling Snoop Not to Sign Death Row Contract

Screen Shot 2022 04 06 at 8.58.28 AM

West Coast/G-Funk legend Warren G sat down with Talib Kweli for his ‘Peoples Party’ podcast. The production pioneer talked about being affiliated with Death Row Records but not signing to the label.

Warren explained how things got heated when Suge found out that Warren warned the label’s premier artist Snoop Dogg not to sign the Death Row contract without getting it reviewed by an attorney.

He said, “I told Snoop, ‘No, don’t sign that. You don’t know what you’re signing. You gotta get a lawyer to look at that stuff.’ And I was a young buck saying this!”

When Suge came for him, Warren said, “He was like, ‘Aye, blood! Where Warren G at?!’ And I was like, ‘Sh*t, what’s up?’ He said, ‘Aye, blood. You told them not to sign that contract?!’ I took off! But the only way you could get down was the elevator, so I’m at the elevator like [hurriedly pressing the button]. He grabbed me and pushed me up against the wall and was like, ‘You told them not to sign that contract, blood?!’”

Today In Hip Hop History: Suge Knight Joked About Eazy-E’s AIDS-Related Death 19 Years Ago

Screen Shot 2022 03 10 at 11.49.50 PM

Today in 2003, former Death Row CEO Suge Knight appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! after his nine-year prison bid and made a shocking insinuation about the AIDS-related death of N.W.A. and Ruthless Records founder Eric “Eazy-E” Wright in 1995.

Kimmel and his crowd jeered and cringed as Knight chuckled at his cruel joke, while the late-night talk show host played it off with a one-liner about the terror level going up a notch after Knight’s mention of the gangsta rap pioneer.

The former Death Row CEO landed himself back in prison a decade following this interview. Karma is a bitch,

Suge Knight’s Attorney Takes Plea Deal For Allegedly Bribing Witnesses

Suge Knight's Attorney

Marion “Suge” Knight’s attorney is facing the consequences for his unethical practices.  LA Times says Matthew Fletcher, who is Suge’s former lawyer, pleaded guilty this week on conspiracy and perjury charges after being accused of bribing witnesses in Knight’s murder trial.

Suge Knight’s attorney faces charges that stem from Suge’s fatal hit-and-run in the parking lot of Tam’s burgers.

In addition to pleading guilty, Fletcher has been permanently disbarred from practicing law in the state of California and he will be on probation for five years.

In exchange prosecutors agreed to drop charges of conspiracy to commit bribery and accessory after the fact relating to Fletcher’s alleged actions while defending Knight, as well as an unrelated perjury charge that stemmed from testimony he gave at a State Bar hearing while under oath.

The former Death Row Records co-founder plead guilty to voluntary manslaughter in 2018, after he whipped his Ford F-150 into Terry Carter and Cle “Bone” Sloan in the parking lot of Compton restaurant close to the site where the biopic, Straight Outta Compton was being shot in 2015. Carter died of his injuries.

Suge’s other former attorney, Thaddeus Culpepper, was hit with identical charges, with two additional conspiracy charges.

Both men have an arraignment set for March 16th and if convicted, they face up to three-years-and-eight months in prison.

[WATCH] Cam’Ron Recalls Confrontation With Suge Knight In LA

On Superstar Jay’s Shade45 talk show, Dipset capo Cam’Ron reminisced about his golden past in the Hip Hop game, especially during a time when the East Coast and the West Coast couldn’t just get along.

Cam tells the story about a clash he had with Death Row Records CEO Marion “Suge” Knight and how Suge’s threats didn’t move the Harlemite at all. Cam claims that the confrontation started over a Tupac beat owned by Death Row, however, Cam says that Daz Dillinger brought the beat to the studio.

Today In Hip Hop History: Death Row Records Releases ‘Christmas On Death Row’ LP 22 Years Ago

On this date in 1996, Death Row Records, led by then CEO Suge Knight, dropped an exclusively X-Mas project for the holiday season of 1996. Sadly, this album was released just shy of three month after the tragic shooting death of Tupac Shakur in Las Vegas.

The album featured all of Death Row’s favorite acts including Michel’le, who at the time was involved with Knight, Snoop Dogg and The Dogg Pound, Nate Dogg, Danny Boy and several other up and coming artists on the label. The star studded line-up rehashed many Christmas soul classics and carols including ‘Silver Bells”, “Frosty Thwe Snowman” and “White Christmas”. With 200K in sales, the virtually unheard of album didn’t do too bad. The best part was that it was reportedly all for charity.

Salute to the entire Death Row for releasing this under the radar Hip Hop classic!
