Lyor Cohen, Killer Mike Among 28 Names On Young Thug’s RICO Trial Witness List

Screen Shot 2023 01 04 at 4.41.55 AM

Young Thug maybe facing life in prison if convicted of the YSL RICO charge he faces at trial this month, but that won’t stop him from calling on his entertainment industry colleagues and friends as potential witnesses at trial.

According to WSBTV‘s Michael Seiden, music exec Lyor Cohen and ATL rapper and political activist Killer Mike were just two of the 28 names listed as potential witnesses for Young Thug’s defense, which is called the “state’s witness list.”

Cohen co-founded 300 Entertainment along with Kevin Liles, who signed Thugger to the label back in 2014. Liles, who took the stand during one of Thug’s bond hearings, called for legislators to stop using song lyrics in court against entertainers like Young Thug.

Eight of Thugger’s co-defendants have already taken plea deals, dodging prison time with an admission of guilt in the conspiracy to violate the RICO Act. Two of his co-defendants, Tenquarius “Nard” Mender and Derontae Bebee, rejected their plea deals and will be at trial with Thug next week. Nard faces 50 years with a conviction, while Bebee is looking at a life sentence.

Jeezy Says He Tried to Bring Nipsey Hussle to Atlantic Records but Couldn’t Due to Rick Ross Beef

Jeezy Says He Tried to Bring Nipsey Hussle to Atlantic Records but Couldn't Due to Rick Ross Beef

Jeezy pulled up on T.I. at the ExpediTIously podcast and while many on the timeline is paying attention to the conversation regarding putting a nail in the beef between Snow and Gucci Mane, there was another tidbit that is raising eyebrows.

Jeezy revealed while he was the senior vice president of A&R at Atlantic Records he attempted to sign Nipsey Hussle but was unable to do so because of Rick Ross.

During negotiations, Jeezy received a call from Lyor Cohen, who was the CEO of Warner Music Group, and revealed that the Nipsey signing couldn’t happen because of Jeezy’s beef with Ross. Ross and Maybach Music Group was a part of Warner.

“He says to me, ‘Jeezy, I know you almost got this Nipsey deal done. I want to do it for you, but the problem is Ross has interest in Nipsey as well, so I can’t let you sign Nipsey to the label because you and Ross are not seeing eye to eye,’ Jeezy shared of the conversation. “‘You guys are not getting along right now so I feel it would be unfair to let you sign him to the label.’”

Nipsey would eventually make it to Atlantic Records for a joint venture for his Victory Lap album

You can hear the details of the almost deal below.

He Ain’t No Joke! Rakim Threathens To Knock MC Serch “The F*ck Out”

What you don’t want to ever want to do is play with the Microphone Fiend and his gift. But that is exactly what MC Serch did when he went on Vlad TV last year and said that Lyor Cohen, then the lead manager at Rush Management, asked him to write some lyrics for Rakim. Rakim needed a ghostwriter? Well, that is exactly what Serch contends.

MC Serch says to Vlad, “… With writing the lyrics for Rakim… I got a call from Lyor. He was managing us. And he was basically like look ‘Rakim has a bit of writers’ block. I know you are cool with Eric B. Could you write some lyrics and maybe get him jump started.”

“So Rakim (even to this day) is the ‘Greatest Emcee’ of all times.” he declares. “So it is a tremendous honor to be asked to write anything for Rakim… to write a word for Rakim… yet alone a song.”

He continues, “So it was easy for me to get into his mind-frame.”  That what did the Queens lyricist see in his mind-frame?

“I saw him in my head with Supreme and with his crew: Them stepping to the A.M.” he reveals. “I was yeah. Them stepping to the A.M. that’s dope.” But Eric B did not think it was dope.

Serch tells the story of how Eric B hung up on him after he heard the idea that he wrote something for the god emcee. Somehow he (and we assume Lyor) thought this was a good idea. The result was Eric B never spoke to Serch again.

Ain’t with Rakim’s new book, Sweat the Technique, being released Rakim has finally addressed this ghostwriting controversy at SiriusXM radio.

The interviewer sets up the question.

MC Serch went on someone’s platform and said that he wrote something for you. And you were like ‘what?’ Was that true?”

Rakim smoothly addressed it. “He said he wrote something?”

“I don’t even know if it got to me.”

“Yeah he said that you needed some help. Ra needed help.”

That kind of did it and is actually why Sweat the Technique is an important book to cop. Why? Cause people always sweating the man’s technique.

Ra’s whole being shifted from the otherwise cool and calm collected vet that have grown to know, and showed to the people why he ‘Ain’t No Joke!”

“I mean no disrespect to my man Serch. But I will knock my man the f*ck out if he is trying to say that he wrote something or that I needed some help. Don’t throw no bullsh*t in the game 40 years later. Serch I love you but I will knock you the f*ck out, f*cking up my legacy. Don’t do that. Never.”

Hopefully, this was all a misunderstanding on management’s part and there is no love lost between the two parties.

When asked on Twitter who is his favorite rapper of all times, Serch still contends: Rakim.

It looks like Dame Dash is at a crossroads in his life. In a surprise move he has recently offered contrition to many of his former foes.

The Roc-A-Fella Records founder recently posted a series of videos that took the Hip-Hop world by shock. The first clip titled “A Real Man Can Apologize” finds Dash surrounded by some unknown men in a dark room as he apologizes to Jay-Z, Steve Stoute and Lyor Cohen.

“So JAY-Z, if I’ve offended you, I apologize. Lyor Cohen, if I offended you, I apologize. Steve Stoute, if I offended you, I apologize. Just ’cause you don’t have the same morals and principles, it’s cool. I’m not angry no more. I did what I had to do. I was a little aggravated about Aaliyah, so y’all just caught the brunt end of it. It was therapy.”

In the follow-up video, called “Therapy…,” he continues to open up and details how sincere he really is. “I called Jim Jones today like I miss him,” he confessed. “I don’t know if y’all know, but I miss him. As a brother, I love his family. I want him to be happy.” He also went on to double down on his sincerity towards Hov. “And Jay, you know, the friendship we had was cool, man. I just miss it. But whatever he doing, he doing. But I’m cool with it, bro.”

He concludes the second installment with offering his regrets to Kareem “Biggs” Burke. “And Biggs, I’m sorry bro if I offended you. Whatever you doing, I’m with it. I love you, man. I know y’all mad at me, but whatever, I’m sorry. I can admit it. When I make some money, I’ll send you something because you my brother. I love your family.”

Over the years the Harlem native has taken issue with each of the aforementioned individuals with culture vulture accusations against Lyor Cohen, attempting to put a snitch jacket on Jay-Z and calling Jim Jones overly emotional.

Both videos direct viewers to Dame’s IGTV and Youtube accounts but nothing new has been posted to either feed, yet.

Dame Dash turned heads after accusing veteran music executive Lyor Cohen of being a culture vulture, which the former Dej Jam major player rebuffed in his typically brash fashion. Funkmaster Flex took up for Cohen in a recent Instagram post, calling Dash a liar in the process.

“Dame Dash built an amazing brand (The Roc) with Biggs and JayZ! I have a tremendous amount of respect for him as an entrepreneur! I 1,000 percent understand his cockiness,” Flex wrote in the caption for an Instagram photo of Dash and Cohen.

Flex added, “He’s self made and I know u wouldn’t believe me but Jayz would have never been noticed without Dame! But in 2018 I refuse to join the cheerleading squad with Dame in the slander! Without the DefJam machine Roccafella would have died in the wind! Roccafella was being distributed though PAYDAY/FREEZE/SLEEPINGBAG/PRIORITY RECORDS(GOOGLE IT)before DefJam!!!!”

Flex continued, “Jayz would have been another great mc that faded into obscurity if he stayed in that situation! Dame made a lot of money with Lyor! All great partnerships always come to and end! Jayz went his separate way cause Dame didn’t adapt to the fact he needed to refine his personality! No one can remove u if u stay in tune to the surroundings! @duskopoppington I love u dearly my Brother… u helped me in 96 when my back was against the wall… But you are a LIAR…”

Dash responded to the rant, asking Funkmaster Flex to take the conversation offline.

Funk Flex Bashes Dame Dash’s ‘Culture Vulture Talk’

DJ Funk Flex got dragged by a couple fans after posting an image with DJ Red Alert and YouTube’s Lyor Cohen on Tuesday, December 18th. Hours later, the legendary DJ hopped on the airwaves on Hot 97 to call out Dame Dash, who has previously called his friend Cohen a culture vulture.

“That ‘culture vulture’ word, I’m not letting that fly with me anymore,” Flex said. “Don’t apply pressure to me on the ‘gram for a friend that I post. I’m going to tell you about Lyor Cohen. He road managed for Run DMC. It’s over, no one is touching that,” Flex continued.

Dame has called many people culture vultures in the past, but Flex argues that Cohen did a lot to help advance his career.

“They cut you millions bro,” Flex explained. “They gave you a million-dollar budget for all the marketing. Def Jam Records made you bro. They changed your life. We’re gonna stop this ‘culture vulture’ talk. That’s the word you talk about your own failures. Dame Dash, I respect you for the utmost way. He helped me get out of a dark place. But bro, you are a liar. You lie because Jay-Z and Lyor aren’t on the gram to call you out on it.”

Apparently the Roc-a-Fella boss heard Funk Flex’s side and offered to discuss matters in person rather than on social media.

“Holla at me when you get a chance,” Dash wrote. “[I] prefer in person so we can speak like men but I doubt you’ll do that. Publicly live would be nice. Don’t make any excuses for not talking to me either be a man #chattypatty and turn your comments back on #doitfortheculture,” Dash wrote as the caption for his Instagram post.

Dame called Cohen a culture vulture after saying he didn’t know who he was on The Breakfast Club four months ago. “Who’s Dame Dash? You brought him up. I don’t even know him. You bring his name up, I don’t even know him. I don’t know him. I really don’t. I don’t know what to tell you,” Cohen said while on The Breakfast Club.
