Quavo to Drop Exclusive Hat Line at LIDS as a Brand Ambassador

Sports apparel retailer LIDS has announced a partnership with Hip-Hop superstar Quavo as a brand ambassador. Quavo joins in a partnership that comes months after Meek Mill joined the LIDS ownership group and wanted to continue to bring his Hip-Hop peers into the company, as he detailed to The Business Insider.

As a part of the venture, Quavo is set to release a limited-edition, exclusive hat line at the turn of the decade and will be the first of numerous projects with the brand.

“I most definitely feel like I bring the culture to Lids. Meek, to me, brings the streets to Lids,” Quavo said to The Business Insider. “He brings resilience to Lids. He brings REFORM to Lids. You get what I’m saying? And I feel like I bring like ‘guys who could’ve been athletes and steered to rapping.’ That’s what I bring to Lids. I feel like I bring the Plan B’s and Plan C’s to Lids. Like when your life don’t necessarily go the right way, like in sports, like mine did, I chose rapping.”

Meek Mill releases New Hat Line at LIDS, Percentage of Sales to Benefit REFORM Alliance

Meek Mill has announced the limited-release launch of exclusive DreamChasers hat, available at Lids beginning Tuesday, November 26. A percentage of each DreamChasers hat purchase will go to the REFORM Alliance.

Meek is the co-chair of the REFORM Alliance, which advances criminal justice reform and eradicated outdated laws and policies that perpetuate injustice in the United States.

The Championships rapper is a co-founder of the organization alongside Michael Rubin, Shawn “JAY-Z” Carter, Robert Kraft, Robert F. Smith, Clara Wu Tsai, Laura Arnold, Michael Novogratz, and Daniel S. Loeb.

“Having my own line with Lids is special, but I’m especially proud that proceeds from this hat will be used to help fix the broken criminal justice system,” said Mill, who is also the co-owner and creative director for LIDS. “I’m grateful that our team at Lids was committed to making a hat that’s stylish, but will go toward a greater cause.”

Meek announced his investment in LIDS back in June of this year, which brought him to an ownership group that also includes Fanatics and Ames Watson. In addition to ownership, he has dived into the LIDS strategy and will use his music industry standing for brand expansion.

You can see the DreamChasers limited-edition hat below.

Big Business, Kid: Meek Mill Is Now Part Owner of Lids

Meek Mill is prepping for one busy summer.

With a new Amazon Prime Video docuseries premiering in August and the kickoff of his Legendary Nights Tour with Future, YG, Mustard and Megan Thee Stallion soon after, the Championships rapper will now be adding a major business deal to his schedule now that he’s officially been announced as co-owner of popular headwear company Lids.

The report arrives via an exclusive from Business Insider, which also states that Meek will lead the creative strategy for Lids and release his own limited-edition line of hats in August to line up with his tour and six-part documentary series. The deal comes by way of the MC’s close friendship with Michael Rubin — you may remember he publicly protested Meek’s Eastern Conference Semifinals travel ban — which itself derives from the 76ers’ co-owner being executive chairman of Fanatics, which owns Lids in part with investment firm Ames Watson. Rubin is also a cofounder of Reform Alliance Foundation along with Meek and political activist Van Jones, so the partnership doesn’t come as too much of a surprise. What does make for an interesting take is how Jay-Z plays a part in the inspiration process behind all of this.

Take a look below at how the Philly rap icon says Hov gave him the confidence to step into the executive chair at Lids, via Business Insider:

“Basically, I’ve seen Jay-Z, and then I’ve watched other artists who came up around his time. He actually built something. He built businesses, and he built things that made him become the man who he is, that we could call a billionaire guy. He built that, and I watched that, and I studied that. That’s why I’m working the way I’m working now to build a foundation for myself too.”

Meek plans to introduce Hip-Hop culture to Lids in a more direct way with his new position at the company, which we’re very excited to see come to fruition once those limited edition hats start popping up.

Congratulations on the new Lids deal, Meek Mill! Let us know what you all would like to see come from this partnership by letting us know on Facebook and Twitter!
