Dame Dash Has Bad Day In Court, Calls Lawyer’s Breath “Doo-Doo”

Damon Dash Celebrates the Launch of Dame Dash Studios

Damon Dash reportedly struck out at a hearing early this week. Apparently, he will have to cut a big check but went out slugging by making everyone not on his level feel inferior.

The New York Daily News is reporting that the Cake-A-Holic had one hell of a day on Monday, April 13. At a Manhattan bench trial the media mogul appeared to refute the claims he infringed on someone’s intellectual property with the 2017 movie Mafietta. Author Edwyna Brooks alleges that he had no right to take her four-part book series of the same name and make it into a film, thus the legal beef.

The lawsuit was originally filed in January and U.S. District Court Judge Jed Rackoff passed the official ruling amidst a lot of messiness. “The court concludes that defendants infringed Brooks’ copyright by reproducing and distributing the film on iTunes and Dame Dash Studios without her permission,” the magistrate explained. Subsequently, Dash has been ordered to pay her $300,000 in restitution.

While the Harlem native is no stranger to wins and losses in the court he was reportedly doing the most during the proceedings. The judge recapped that Dame “repeatedly disrupted” the testimony, yelled at a witness and flat out accused another individual who took the stand of lying. The spiciest outburst was when Dusko said an attorney’s breath smelled like “doo-doo”.

The writer though was satisfied and took the opportunity to call out Dash for shady business practices. “In my opinion, Damon Dash has shown himself to be a walking, talking contradiction of everything he preaches. He preyed on my desire to produce films and abused almost everyone involved in its production,” she said via her lawyer.

Naturally, Damon’s lawyer stated that they were disappointed in the decision. “While we appreciate an expeditious decision from the court, we believe the copyright claim was incorrectly decided, in our opinion, as Mr. Dash was the dominant author of the work in question,” Natraj Bhushan told The Daily News. “In any event, the damages that the court awarded were based on the pure speculation of an expert so both findings will be appealed in due course,” he added.

Meg Thee Stallion has a clear understanding how valuable her brand is. So much so she might have to put one of her former associates in legal check.

TMZ is reporting that the Rap bombshell is flexing her legal muscle against ex or soon to be ex make up artist. Last month Akil McCoy took to social media to make sure the Houston native put some respeck on his face game. On October 22 she posted a clip from her Vogue feature with footage of her using an eyebrow brush. Clearly he felt snub and commented “Make Up Akilaface”.

According to the story “The Big Ole Freak” rapper’s lawyer sent McCoy a cease and desist request. Apparently the letter stated that he is violating his non disclosure agreement by discussing his work with Megan. The celebrity website also suggests that if Akil continues to speak openly about their working relationship, even if the commentary is positive, he will be taken to court.

You can view their original exchange on Instagram that sparked the feud below.

While Pusha T has a long history of talking snow business his newest effort shines a light on an important social issue. He also secured a feature from Hip-Hop’s most elusive performer in the process.

As reported by Billboard the Virginia lyricist’s second release of this week is a tribute to all of those imprisoned due to out of date drug laws. Aptly titled “Coming Home” the track finds Push providing hope to the inmate community behind bars. “I’m speaking to the soul of my black native bros / Who ain’t get to go to school like a J. Cole / Who ain’t have a silver spoon or a bankroll /Who weren’t taught the golden rule, but they made do?”

On the hook is Ms. Lauryn Hill which makes this guest appearance her first in many years. Her vocals too serve the under-served. “When love is strong, you can do anything / Things go wrong, but you’ll stand up to anything” she sings. The song also has a philanthropic layer as Pusha has partnered up with two powerhouse lawyers, MiAngel Cody and Brittany K. Barnett, to launch the ‘Third Strike Coming Home campaign. The project’s goal is to free people still serving life in prison today under yesterday’s outdated 3 Strikes Drug Law. According to the press release he has already kicked off the campaign with a $25,000 donation.

The “If You Know You Know” rapper detailed how the song together in an impromptu interview with Beats 1’s Ebro Darden. When asked how he was able to land L-Boogie on the track he made it clear he took the proper steps. “I just made the request. She expressed that she likes my music, and she’d see about it. I definitely followed the queen around every- Whatever it took, and it was super important to me when she showed interest” he explained.

Kim Kardashian Aided In The Release Of 17 Inmates In 90 Days

Kim Kardashian has been quietly making moves to shake up the criminal justice system, using her wealth and influence to help aid in the release of over a dozen inmates. In all, the social media megastar has helped 17 inmates gain freedom in the past 90 days.

TMZ reports:

We’ve learned Kim and her legal team helped 17 prisoners gain freedom over the last 3 months or so — each of them having served years of life sentences without parole … for low-level drug offenses.

It’s all part of the 90 Days of Freedom campaign launched by Kim’s lawyer, Brittany K. Barnett, in partnership with lawyer MiAngel Cody of The Decarceration Collective. The campaign puts the First Step Act — signed by President Trump last year — to work for prisoners who received Draconian sentences.

Kim is footing the bill while Barnett, who also co-founded the Buried Alive advocacy group, and Cody handle the lawyering. We’re told Kim’s been secretly funding the campaign over the past few months.

We’ve known about a few cases Kim’s backed — Jeffrey Stringer in Florida, Cyntoia Brown in Tennessee, Alice Marie Johnson in Alabama — but now we know the list is much longer.

There are other cases that Kardashian and Cody are currently examining in order to work more hopeful magic.

Chris Darden’s Daughter Is Being Attacked Over Him Representing Nipsey Hussle’s Alleged Killer

Rapper Nipsey Hussle's Alleged Killer Eric Holder Makes First Court Appearance

Source: Francine Orr / Getty

The aftermath following the untimely murder of Nipsey Hussle continues to get even more complicated. Chris Darden’s daughter has now spoken up regarding her father’s recent announcement.

Last week the attorney offered his legal services to the self-proclaimed gang member pro bono. Naturally, the move infuriated friends, family, and fans of the fallen rapper. As spotted on Hot New Hip-Hop Jeneé Darden is apparently feeling the heat following her dad taking on Eric Holder’s case. She took to her Instagram account to establish some clarity regarding the jig as she admits she has received “vile comments and messages.”

“Like many of you I found out about my father’s involvement in the case while scrolling social media,” she admitted. “I was not prepared for this backlash that has triggered back memories from the O.J. Simpson trial. My father is a grown man and has been a defense attorney for some time. I have no say in the cases he takes on.”

Jeneé went to add that she too sympathizes Nip and wants justice for him.

“Instead of attacking me and others who have nothing to do with this case, channel that energy toward continuing Nipsey’s legacy in strengthening our communities and lifting up each other. I will continue to pray for Nipsey Hussle’s family. May they have justice and peace.”

Darden has also faced a barrage of criticism with many citing the move to represent Holder as a clear attempt of clout chasing. Meek Mill used his platform to not only remind us about the dangers of self-hate in our communities but also calling the counselor a “house n***a”.

You can read Jeneé Darden’s full statement below. Eric Holder has pleaded not guilty to charges including murder, attempted murder and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Aretha Franklin’s Lawyer is Requesting $54K from Estate for Past Due Payments

Aretha Franklin is still getting billed even after life, according to TMZ.

Franklin’s lawyer, Gregory Reed, says he had trouble collecting what the Queen of Soul owed him while she was alive. So now he’s hoping that her estate would cover her debt with him. He filed documents requesting the state makes a payment of $54,000 to cover charges dating back to 6 years ago.

In docs, obtained by TMZ, Reed’s firm claims to have provided multiple services to Aretha Franklin, who passed on in August, including arrangements on her last Atlantic Records contract. The firm says her last payment, for about $10,000, was made in August 2012.

Reed is definitely not trying to be added to the chain of fools.
