Odell Beckham Jr.’s New Teammate Kareem Hunt Suspended 8 Games For Attacking Woman

Kareem Hunt

NFL superstar Odell Beckham Jr. is going to have to wait until mid-season before he shares the football field with Kareem Hunt. The NFL has announced an eight-game suspension of the newly acquired Cleveland Browns running back.

On Friday, the NFL announced its decision to suspend Hunt for half of the upcoming season for violating its personal conduct policy.

Hunt has since released a statement acknowledging the situation and his suspension.

Last month, the Browns made a controversial decision to sign Kareem after the Kansas Chiefs released him in December following footage surfaced of him assaulting a woman in a hotel lobby.

Following their own investigation, the Browns signed Hunt to a one-year contract Monday, giving the former star Chiefs running back a second chance after a video showed him pushing and kicking a woman. “I think we’re all appalled by it,” general manager John Dorsey said at the team’s headquarters, hours after the Browns announced the controversial signing. “It is an egregious act. We all understand that. But after doing our research, extensive research, analyzing the situation, we came to the conclusion that I am willing to help a man from a second chance moving forward to be a better person, and that’s all you can ask for in society, and that’s all I’m trying to do.” (AP News)

This week, Hunt’s now-teammate Odell Beckham Jr. released a statement following his trade from the New York Giants to the Browns.

Kareem Hunt found himself booted from a talent-stacked Kansas City Chiefs squad last year after footage of him beating and kicking a woman surfaced. Despite the video evidence, Hunt was offered a job with the Cleveland Browns but his pathway in getting back to the field will be complicated.

Bleacher Report writes:

Early Monday afternoon, the Browns signed Hunt to a one-year, $1 million contract.

Congratulations, NFL: business as usual is back, and it’s booming.

There’s video of what Hunt did, from multiple angles. It’s a chaotic scene: a 216-pound athlete lashing out.

A CNN report cited three separate calls to police dispatch. It also noted that the hallway assault was one of three violent off-field acts of which he was accused in 2018: In January, a man told police in Kansas City, Missouri, that his nose and ribs were broken by Hunt and teammate George Atkinson during a nightclub brawl, and a witness said Hunt punched another individual during an altercation in June.

Hunt lands the gig by way of Browns GM John Dorsey, who was previously the Chiefs’ GM and drafted the running back. Dorsey claims Hunt has taken accountability for his actions and is working with the team on a treatment plan.

Kareem Hunt‘s life is in shambles at the moment. The now former Kansas City Chiefs running back who got dropped like a bad habit after being witnessed on film kicking a woman has been wiped from Madden 16

It makes sense considering Hunt isn’t on a roster. But it’s still notable.

Reports TMZ:

After TMZ Sports posted footage of the former Kansas City Chiefs player attacking a woman in a Cleveland hotel during an incident in February, the video game company says it made the decision to pull Hunt from the game

“We are in the process of removing Kareem Hunt from the Madden NFL 19 roster, Madden Overdrive and Madden Ultimate Team,” a rep for EA Sports tells TMZ Sports.

“Any of our players who currently have Hunt on their Ultimate Team will receive a replacement generic player with identical stats.”

Kareem Hunt is currently a free agent. Don’t hold your breath on the NFL actually blackballing him for hitting a woman. That only applies to those who protest police brutality.

Former NFL Running Back Ray Rice Has Some Advice for Kareem Hunt

Former Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice has weighed in on the latest news surrounding Kareem Hunt’s February altercation with a woman, and he wants to aid the former Chiefs running back.

During an interview with NFL.com, Rice explained that he wants to help Hunt get to the “underlying problems” that led to his February incident, which was revealed in a video released by TMZ on Friday.

Hunt was released by the Chiefs on Friday after the team learned about the video dating back to a February altercation with a woman in a Cleveland hotel. The video showed Hunt shoving a woman and kicking her while she was hunched over on the ground.

“Peer-to-peer, I would definitely try to help him figure out, ‘How can we start dealing with the underlying problems in your life?’” Rice said. “Because he has a long life to live, this will be a defining moment, but it shouldn’t be the moment that defines you. For me, I just see you have a long life to live and that doesn’t mean just playing football — you need to just live one day at a time.

Rice has done a lot of soul-searching since he was caught on camera assaulting his domestic partner. Since the closure of his NFL career, Rice has become very involved with A Call To Men, an organization that aims to eliminate the conditions that favor toxic male behavior, like that demonstrated by Kareem Hunt in the surveillance video.
