A Florida man who has never been arrested was slapped with a 10-day jail sentence for missing jury duty,, prompting many online to speak out against the presiding judge. Deandre Somerville, 21, overslept and missed his August appointment which led to his arrest in court.

Palm Beach County Circuit Judge John Kastrenak saw fit to give Somerville, a college student who has never been in trouble, was given 10 days in jail, 150 hours of community service, ordered to write an apology, and one year of probation. The sentencing prompted outrage on social media with many stating the judge went overboard.

Those cries were heard as the judge lowered Somerville’s sentence although, adding insult to injury, he wants the man to serve as a spokesperson for the seriousness and responsibility of jury duty according to a report from the Sun-Sentinel. Somerville told local NBC affiliate WPTV that he learned a valuable lesson but that the experience has changed his life forever.

Tekashi 6ix9ine is setting himself up to reveal what he knows about the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods gang, and he’s already expressed fears about testifying against his former affiliates. Prosecutors in the case have asked the jury in the matter if the rapper’s snitching will sway how they decide the case in any way.

The Blast reports:

According to documents obtained by The Blast, federal prosecutors have filed the questions that they would like to ask during jury selection.

The reason for the loaded question is to gauge whether anyone on the jury can be fair and impartial.

Interestingly, a section of the questioning will deal with the federal investigators and cops using “confidential informants,” like Tekashi, and how the jury may feel about somebody who turned in all their former cohorts.

Tekashi is not specifically on trial in this case, but he will be a cooperating witness, so officials want to find out how the public feels about his cooperation.

The outlet shared some of the questions asked of the jury in order to determine how impartial they will be. Tekashi is testifying in the matter to reduce some of the years he’s facing after pleading guilty to a number of felonies.

Jussie Smollett Gets Final Meeting With Police Before Case Goes To Grand Jury

SAG-AFTRA Foundation Conversations: 'Empire' With Jussie Smollett

Jussie Smollett has one final stand to make in his assault case towards Chicago police before the case will be heard before a grand jury. The Empire actor will have to convince authorities that the alleged racist and homophobic attack he suffered did indeed happen.

TMZ reports:

As we reported, police “urgently” want a follow-up interview with Jussie … this comes after Ola and Abel Osundairo told police they staged the so-called attack at Jussie’s behest and even got paid for doing so.

We’re told the call has gone out to his lawyers, but cops have not heard back. It’s now complicated by the fact there are rumblings Jussie has a new lawyer — Mark Geragos.

Our sources say cops are waiting to see if Geragos makes contact with them. Our sources say if Jussie refuses to speak with police — which is almost a certainty — the case will go directly to the grand jury.

Even if Jussie speaks to police, unless he pulls a rabbit out of a hat and convinces them the “attack” was real, the case is still going to the grand jury.

The chief charge Smollett faces is allegedly concocting the story of the attack.

R. Kelly Faces Indictment At The Hand Of Chicago Grand Jury

R. Kelly has yet to face true justice in the wake of the allegations raised in the recent Lifetime Surviving R. Kelly docu-series, but developments in Chicago might change that. A grand jury convened last week after attorney Michael Avenatti produced alleged video evidence of the singer abusing an underage girl.

The Blast reports:

Sources close to the situation confirmed to The Blast a grand jury was convened last week by the Cook County State’s Attorney Office in Chicago.

We’re told the grand jury — comprised of a group of citizens — was formed on the heels of attorney Michael Avenatti delivering a videotape allegedly depicting Kelly engaged in sexual activity with an underage girl.

Since the airing of the Lifetime docu-series, “Surviving R. Kelly,” the public has been demanding charges be brought against him, but officials have yet to formally charge the star as they dealt with the hurdles of locating victims and forming a case.

However, one of the powers of the Cook County State’s Attorney Office is the ability to assemble a grand jury, which can issue an indictment against a defendant without prosecutors having to present evidence at a preliminary hearing in front of a trial judge and a defense counsel.

This is still a developing matter with lead Cook County prosecutor Kim Foxx urging any of Kelly’s victims to come forward and add their names to a potential case against the singer.
