Today (Oct. 8), Dallas Police announced that Joshua Brown, the witness who was shot dead after coincidentally testifying against convicted murderer and ex-cop Amber Guyger, was killed after a drug deal gone wrong. All things considering, Twitter is not taking this news at face value.

Conspiracy theories ran rampant immediately after news of Brown’s death broke, which Dallas PD address during their announcement.

“As you know there’s been speculation and rumors that have been shared by community leaders claiming that Mr. Brown’s death was related to the Amber Guyger trial and somehow the Dallas Police Department was responsible. I assure you that is simply not true,” said Assistant Chief Avery Moore of Dallas PD during a press conference.

However, the details he also shared about their investigation has been sparking nothing but side-eyes.

Moore said arrest warrants have been issued for Thaddeous Charles Green, 22, Michael Diaz Mitchell, 32, and Jacquerious Mitchell, 20. The police claim the aforementioned individuals intended to purchase drugs from Brown.

Per Moore, Jacquerious Mitchell told police what happened—they arrived around 10:30pm on Friday (Oct. 4) in the parking lot of the Atera apartments in Dallas on Cedar Springs Road. According to Mitchell, who is related to Michael Diaz Mitchell, Thaddeous Green got out of the vehicle and has a conversation with Brown that turned into an altercation.

At this point, Brown allegedly shot Green in the chest. Jacquerious Mitchell claims he heard two more shots, which were reportedly coincided with the two shots an autopsy revealed that Brown suffered.

According to Jacquerious Mitchell, after the shooting Green took Brown’s gun and backpack, and the perpetrators all sped away with Michael Mitchell driving. Green was dropped off at an unknown location while Jaquarious Mitchell was taken to Promise Hospital, but he is know in custody at Parkland Memorial Hospital.

Michael Mitchell and Green remain at large. Police also claim that via tips they tracked down an apartment where Brown was said to be staying, where they found 12 pounds of marijuana, 143 grams of THC cartridges and $4,000 cash.

If this story sounds too incredible to actually believe considering the circumstances, you are not the only one. Peep Twitter’s commentary on the jig below.

Also, Brown’s family would like Dallas PD off the case.

Suspects Identified in Joshua Brown Murder Case; One Apprehended, Two on The Lamb

According to the CBS Dallas affiliate DFW News, Dallas Police have made an arrest in the Joshua Brown murder case that happened over the weekend.

One source says that a man suspected in Brown’s murder has been identified as as Jacquerious Mitchell has been admitted into and treated at the Parkland Hospital. In addition to him, there are two fugitives (Thaddeous Charles Green and Michael Diaz Mitchell) on the lamb, who police believe have already left the state.  The belief is that Thaddeous Green shot Brown in the back.

All of them would be charged with capital murder.

While no one is certain,  Assistant Chief Avery Moore said the murder was over a drug deal gone bad.

During a press conference, the Dallas police expressed regret that some people believed that the murder was directly connected to the case. They believe that the by pointing the nab on this suspect and working to bring in the others, that will put an end to the idea that his murder was retaliation for his testimony in the Amber Guyer case, where he talked about the brutal death of Botham Jean.

Botham Jean’s Neighbor & Key Witness In Amber Guyger Trial Shot Dead, Twitter Spots The Jig

Funeral Held For Botham Shem Jean, Who Was Killed By Dallas Police Officer Amber Guyger When She Entered Wrong Apartment

Joshua Brown was reportedly shot and killed on Friday (Oct. 4) at an apartment complex near Dallas’ Medical District. Why this particular homicide is raising eyebrows is because the victim was a “key witness” in the trial of Amber Guyger, the ex-cop convicted of murdering Botham Jean.

Brown was a neighbor of both Guyger and Jean, he lived across the hall from Jean, and testified at the trial.

The Dallas Morning News reports that Brown was shot in the back and thigh, per a source speaking anonymously.

There are currently no suspects in Brown’s death. Many are calling for an independent inquiry into his death due to little faith in the Dallas PD.

The coincidence of Guyger being sentenced and Brown being murdered in the same week sent Twitter down the conspiracy theory rabbit hole. Peep some of the more poignant reactions below.

Strange Fruit Swinging! They Killed Him! Witness in Amber Guyger Trial, Joshua Brown Murdered Days After Testifying

There is a reason why Bryan Stevenson’s lynching museum and memorial in Alabama are chock full of soil from the blood drenched ground beneath hundreds of strange fruit bearing trees from The South. The Legacy Museum and The National Memorial for Peace and Justice tell the stories of the ugliness of American bigotry, and serves as evidence that public outcry and witness is important.

Nowhere is it more evident than in Texas, where the massacre of Black bodies for years have gone without justice and regard.

Consider the 1910 Slocum Massacre in East Texas, where as any number between eight and 22 Blacks were killed because they were prospering.  A subject topic that probably would never hit their social studies books (remember they said slaves were happy), an angry mob of about 200 white folk murdered their Black neighbors in what authorities called a “potshot” occasion (where you shoot Black folk at will).

One only has to look at 16 year-old John Earl Reese, who was murdered almost 64 years ago this month while dancing in a Texan cafe by white men who desired to terrorize Blacks into yielding their plans to build a school for their children.

Too far back? What about what the public lynching of James Byrd in 1998 in Texas? Oh that was two decades? What about Botham Jean who was killed in 2018 by a white police officer, who came into his house and blasted him with absolute no cause? She was mistaken. That was last year?

What about Joshua Brown?

Joshua Brown, one key witness in the Botham Jean trail that has convicted Amber Guyger of murder and sentenced her to 10 years of prison, was murdered in cold blood days after giving his heart wrenching testimony about the day his new friend was shot. A noble and brave soul, Brown lived across the hall from Jean. CNN confirmed through a spokesperson for the Dallas County District Attorney John Creuzot, Kimberlee Leach, that Brown was killed in a shooting.

Police tell the press that they received a 911 call about the shooting on Friday night, around 10:30 pm. Witnesses told them that Brown was shot multiple times by someone(s) in a silver four-door sedan that raced out of the Atera Apartment complex after shooting Brown. The medical examiner said that he died from gunshot wounds in his mouth and chest.

There are no suspects.

But do we need suspects? Do we need to pinpoint the cowards that acted so heinously towards the gentle Brown, who wept at the trial for a man that he met only the day he was killed? Particularly, when we don’t really believe in the American justice system… do we? The justice fatigue is real in Black communities, and it is a fruitless and frustrating exercise to dance through. It keeps happening… Nah, we don’t need the suspects right now.

What would that do for them to be locked up, when there are hundreds of similar thinking white folk out there waiting to take out another Black boy or girl, man or woman. When if someone is caught, they will get a smack on the wrist sentencing like Guyger.

We don’t. We need no more rallies. We need no more Facebook post tributes. We need an end to the senseless lack of regard for Black bodies and souls. We need a shift in how we protect and nurture Black men with the courage to speak out against the police when they are wronged and a justice system that will make sure there are no more repercussions for voicing the truth, even if it impacts the racist elements of the nation’s great Blue wall.

It is tiresome, Texas. You cannot celebrate being the home of Beyonce, Lizzo and Screw Music, and continue not to be a safe place for decent folk to live. We see through it all. We need no more apologies. We need no more politicians pandering with their carnation wreaths at funeral and long speeches about unity.

We need no more Strange Fruit to swing from poplar trees.

The Source is heartbroken by the killing of Mr. Brown and send our prayers to his family.
