According to The Hollywood Reporter and in a shocking move, it has been reported that Jesse Williams is leaving Grey’s Anatomy.

The news broke after Thursday’s episode which saw the return of April Kepner played by Sarah Drew.  According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show had Drew return to give way to Williams’ departure.

It is an understatement to say Williams and his beloved character, Jackson Avery, have been a staple of the show for years.  His character made his first debut in season 6 as a recurring cast member.  Jackson Avery, became a series regular the following year.

“I will forever be grateful for the boundless opportunities provided me by Shonda [Rhimes], the network, studio, fellow castmates, our incredible crew, Krista [Vernoff], Ellen [Pompeo] and Debbie [Allen],” said Williams in a statement. “As an actor, director and person, I have been obscenely lucky to learn so much from so many and I thank our beautiful fans, who breathe so much energy and appreciation into our shared worlds. The experience and endurance born of creating nearly 300 hours of leading global television is a gift I’ll carry always. I am immensely proud of our work, our impact and to be moving forward with so many tools, opportunities, allies and dear friends.”

“Jesse Williams is an extraordinary artist and activist,” said showrunner Krista Vernoff. Watching his evolution these past 11 years both on-screen and off has been a true gift. Jesse brings so much heart, such depth of care, and so much intelligence to his work. We will miss Jesse terribly and we will miss Jackson Avery — played to perfection for so many years.”

Recently, Williams is the second major cast member to leave, following Giacomo Gianniotti.  The actor re-upped his contract for two additional seasons during his previous contract renewals, committing to be involved in a limited capacity.

Given the Trumpian times we’re living in now the culture could use some up uplifting music with a revolutionary theme. Luckily J. Period and Jesse Williams decided to do something about it and with the help of some of the game’s most talented and social-politically conscious artists to create The RISE UP Project.

The project features artists like Black Thought, Dead Prez, Andra Day and Rhymefest amongst others and features production from J. Period, DJ Jazzy Jeff, and DJ Kalil just to name a few.

The RISE UP album marks an exciting new chapter in the groundbreaking RISE UP Project, a nationwide social action campaign that has brought electric performances and engaging discussions to institutions including The Kennedy Center, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Smithsonian NMAAHC and more, igniting young minds around social justice and building bridges – across all lines – with music as its connective tissue.

“As artists, we have a responsibility to forge connections, raise awareness and take action,” said J.PERIOD, co-founder of The RISE UP Project. “In order to truly change hearts and minds, and bring people together, movements need music. Now is the time to elevate the conversation and raise the bar. It’s our time to rise up.”

1220 Life: Spike Jonze & Jesse Williams Tell Woke AF History Of Marijuana In US W/ New Commercial

MedMen

Hollywood actor Spike Jonze and actor Jesse Williams are helping to break down the negative taboos still surrounding marijuana. The high-profile entertainers have linked for a must-watch MedMen commercial.

Jones’ two-minute commercial is the first-ever for MedMen and stars Williams as they present the United States’ history with marijuana.

It opens on what appears to be a natural history museum diorama that depicts founding father George Washington (played by Williams) at his hemp farm, examining a specimen from his latest crop–the point being that back then, growing weed was about as eyebrow-raising as growing your own wheat or corn. The film then takes a darker turn, illustrating what the V.O. says was America’s “80 years of unjust prohibition, which hasn’t made us any safer”–with scenes of individuals getting frisked by police and harsh punishments in court. ⬅Ushering in the new normal. 🌱 (BUSINESS WIRE)–Feb 25, 2019 The diverse creative team behind the project includes actor Jesse Williams, director Spike Jonze, Academy-Award nominated cinematographer Bradford Young and production designer James Chinlund, who is currently working on the upcoming Lion King movie. Jesse Williams commented, “The highly selective criminalization of one plant, with flagrantly harsher punishments for one community, must be acknowledged and left behind for something more reasonable, realistic and fair. “It’s pretty clear that Americans are ready to exist beyond a few inherited hypocrisies. We deserve the opportunity to make this right. We can do, and feel, better. “The issue of racial injustice in cannabis is very important to me. I witnessed crack-era Chicago growing up in the ‘80s. I saw firsthand cops preying on poor people, frisking kids on the street. we moved to suburban Massachusetts and I saw all these white kids smoking weed, growing weed, selling weed, where it was basically coded as “mischief” and overlooked. And this type of coming-of-age story … it’s in the fabric of America. Why are white kids allowed to experiment, make mistakes and not be forever vilified for it? I’ve lived this dichotomy and it’s clearly bullshit.” #Decriminalize #Marijuana #SpikeJonze #BradfordYoung #JamesChinlund #JesseWilliams #MMNewNormal

Lightskint L: Twitter Shoving Jesse Williams Out The Paint For Tasteless Meme Of Emmett Till’s Mom

Jesse Williams has a reputation of being one of the wokest actors in the game, but Black Twitter gathered like a swarm of bees after he made a huge gaffe. In promoting a film about the tragic death of Emmett Till that he’s set to direct, Williams posted an image of Mamie Till, Till’s mother, crying at his casket and tried to flip it into the recent Nike “Just Do It” ad style.

Williams wrote in superimposed words “Believe In Something. Even If It Means Sacrificing Everything” in the spirit of the Colin Kaepernick ad. As expected, Twitter has been gathering Williams up as they should for implying Mamie Till put her son up for an offering to be murdered by racists pigs hellbent on believing what appeared to be a lie.

So, just to be open and honest about things, we’re here for this dragging. Please, not everything needs to be a meme, Black people. Do remember.

Check out the tweets of Jesse Williams effectively getting bombed on below.
