Dancehall Star Mavado’s Son Found Guilty Of Murder

Screen Shot 2021 01 28 at 2.15.37 PM

According to a report from Dancehall Magazine, son of Dancehall reggae star Mavado was convicted today of murder in Kingston, Jamaica’s Home Circuit Court, and could spend the rest of his life behind bars.

Mavado’s 18-year-old son Dante Brooks, along with his co-defendant Andre Hinds, were both also charged with illegal possession of a firearm and arson in the case. Brooks and Hinds will be sentenced for their crimes on March 10.

Prosecutors asserted that Brooks and four other men entered the home of Lorenzo Thomas in the St Andrew community of Cassava Piece on June 5, 2018, and shot him to death. Thomas’s father was present and the prosecutors alleged that the assailants attempted to behead the father, but changed the plan because the machete was too dull. The men doused the home with gasoline before setting it ablaze with the body inside.

The prosecutors were able to secure a conviction with the eyewitness testimony of Thomas’ father, who survived the ordeal and was able to identify his son’s killers in the community.

Mavado released a track, aptly titled “Not Perfect” earlier this month that mentions his son’s trial as well as his own criminal allegations. The song has already reached almost one million views.

Brooks’ lawyer, Peter Champagnie, has already planned to appeal Justice Leighton Pusey’s verdict.

HHW Premiere: Five Steez & Mordecai – A.B.S. [Video]

Five Steez & Mordecai

Source: Five Steez / Five Steez

Jamaica is, without doubt, one of the richest cultural hubs in the world and by way of DJ Kool Herc‘s birthright and influence, responsible for the global impact of Hip-Hop music and culture. Kingston’s own Five Steez and Mordecai are adding to their ongoing legacy as leading voices via their take on traditional boom-bap with “A.B.S.” from their latest EP.

With Five Steez commanding the microphone duties with confidence, Mordecai’s head-nodding production serves as the foundation of the Jamaican duo’s signature sound, present across their latest set, HeatRockz 2.0. The EP follows the duo’s 2019 full-length Love N Art and is a direct sequel of the pair’s hard-hitting HeatRockz project from 2016.

Five doesn’t rely on the expected patois-tinged deejay hybrid style used by some Hip-Hop artists of Jamaican heritage, especially those reared stateside. Instead, Five elects to deliver his verses comfortably in the pocket with a straight-ahead, no-nonsense delivery that will directly resonate, and that presence is clearly felt throughout the expanse of “A.B.S.”

Without giving too much of the cinematic video’s plot away, allow Five Steez and Mordecai to briefly lay out their vision by way of the following press statment.

“I love action movies and we got to make one of our own right here,” says Five Steez, about the video which was shot at undisclosed locations across Kingston. Mordecai says, “We had a wild idea and Kinematix helped us bring it to life and make something unique.”

The video for “A.B.S.” was directed by Kinematix Studios (Salute to @Kavouhn).

Five Steez and Mordecai’s HeatRockz 2.0 can be found across all DSPs.

Kanye West to Take his Sunday Service to Kingston, Jamaica

Kanye West has been taking his Sunday Service all across America. He recently made a stop during Howard University’s homecoming and he plans to take his service to Jamaica on Friday.

The event will be held in the Emancipation Park in Kingston. It will be free and open to the public and starts at 7 p.m. His visit is being supported by the Jamaica Tourist Board.

But he’s seems to already be getting backlash. A local pastor spoke to The Jamaican Star and urged Christians to keep their guards up. “I don’t know [Kanye] as a Christian and someone who is being led by the Holy Spirit,” Pastor Stephen Blake told the Star. “We have to examine the motive here.” He plans to send his “prayer warriors” to bless the venue ahead of the “Blood on the Leaves” rapper’s performance.

But the show must go on. He reportedly plans to take his services to Africa, Europe and Asia.

He previously took his Sunday Service to Los Angeles, Wyoming, Chicago and New York City.

Meek Mill Pulled Over By Cops In Jamaica For Photo [Video]

Meek Mill continues to be reminded that being a high profile celebrity comes with a share of headaches. He recently was stopped so the badges could a flick with him.

As per Vibe the Maybach Music Group MC was recently living his best life in Kingston, Jamaica. While on route to his destination he and his entourage were pulled over by local police on the highway. Naturally the detainment had him on edge but come to find out they just wanted a flick.

The Philadelphia native took video of the incident from his phone while giving commentary with a terrible Jamaican accent. “You’re trying to take a picture, mon? I’m f**ked up! Y’all pulled us over and y’all said y’all want a picture, mon? Y’all scared us! We’re scared of police! We thought we were getting locked up!”

Thankfully they were allowed to go once the photos were taken. Later that night Meek and company were seen partying with copious amounts of cash, Hennessy and strippers at an undisclosed location.

Let’s hope this behavior will not derail his chances at getting a fair trail as Judge Brinkley remains on his case despite several alleged inappropriate statements made and other irregularities.

Buju Banton To Be Released From Prison Next Month

Buju Banton will be able to breath free air very soon.

According to IamJamaican, the Grammy Award-winning artist is scheduled for release on December 8, 2018. Banton’s 10-year prison sentence was reduced by two months in January 2016. Florida’s US Attorney Office announced an agreement to waive the appeals of his prior convictions. In 2011, the “Boom Bye Bye” artist was convicted on cocaine distribution and conspiracy charges. He was arrested in 2009 and convicted in 2011.

Back in 2017, Sean Paul posted a video after visiting Banton.

The reggae legend’s team recently announced the “Long Walk To Freedom” world tour for Summer 2019. This news alone began to stir up a lot of buzz.
