Although he previously expressed no interest in joining the cast of How High 2, its been confirmed that Mike Epps will reprise his role as Baby Powder.
Epps is set to join the cast with Lil Yachty, DeRay Davis, D.C. Young Fly, Alyssa Goss, and Mary Lynn Rajskub. Special guest appearances include Lil Baby, Blac Youngsta, and Justine Skye. MTV also revealed the production is slate to begin April 20th.
The script written by Family Guy and Futurama writer Shawn Ries, Big Mouth‘s Artie Johann, Workaholics‘ Alex Blagg, and Powerless‘ Neel Shah.
Quality Control’s Pierre Thomas and Coach K are notably credited for executive production.
Redman told the Grass Routes podcast that Mike Epps and Method Man simply didn’t have the same interest in the film that they did years ago. Plus, decisions were made without their input.
“What happened is that a branch that’s under Universal decided [they were] gonna shoot this movie,” he said at the time. “And they did not need permission from us because we didn’t own the rights to How High.”
At the end of the day, the two original co-stars were asked to join the sequel, but declined.
Rap veterans Method Man and Redman aren’t expected to appear in a highly-anticipated How High sequel. The original film’s stars won’t share cameratime in the long-awaited follow-up to the 2001 cult classic.
According to reports, How High 2 producers didn’t go out of the way to snag Red and Meth for the upcoming movie.
Sources close to “How High 2” tell TMZ … the hip-hop duo wasn’t cast in the made-for-TV movie after starring in the original stoner comedy. We’re told the sequel is going to be fundamentally different from the OG version — think sativa vs. indica — because it’s for a television PG-13 audience, and weed legalization has made strides since 2001, when Meth and Red blazed their way through Harvard. Meth and Red are MIA — probably ripping a bong somewhere — but one of the original producers, Shauna Garr, is returning. (TMZ)
A couple weeks ago, buzz developed about a much-needed How High sequel going into production.
How High 2, the highly-anticipated sequel to the iconic and outrageous stoner comedy starring Method Man and Redman, began shooting today in Atlanta, with Grammy®-nominated artist Lil Yachty in the lead role. The follow up to the 2001 cult classic is produced by MTV and Universal 1440 Entertainment, the production arm of Universal Pictures Home Entertainment. How High 2 will premiere on MTV in 2019. How High 2 chronicles two young “potrepreneurs” on a magical hash-fueled journey to fund their on-demand munchies delivery start-up. Lil Yachty plays “Roger, an entrepreneur and the younger brother of one of the protagonists from the original film.
Back in 2009, comedian Mike Epps talked to SOHH about his disinterest in resurrecting his “Baby Powder” character in a potential How High sequel.
“Yeah, I mean, you know, you know, I’m really, really really trying, no offense to anybody, Redman, Method Man or the project, I’m really trying to move on,” Epps explained. “I’m really trying to get some opportunities where I can really show my acting chops and get some respect. I’m approaching a certain age in my life, you know, some of those roles are kinda like, they’re old for me man. You know what I mean? Those roles are for younger guys that are entering the business now.” (SOHH)
“Yo, Red and Mef, we coming too,” Reggie Noble promised in an interview. “Thanks everybody for buying the Blackout 2! album and everyone who’s wondering about the How High movie, listen, we’re trying to get a deal for it. Universal is not allowing us to use the name or the characters because of paperwork, right, so y’all know the deal, we gonna work around that. But the most important part, the video will still be marijuana-related, and that is the very important part.” (The Life Files)
We’re told the comedian’s been tapped to star alongside the rapper in “How High 2,” the follow-up to Method Man and Redman’s 2001 stoner comedy. DC Young Fly will play Calvin — a stoner from the hood who’s best friends with Roger, played by Yachty. Yachty scored the lead in the upcoming MTV movie, and Roger is reportedly the younger bro of one of the original film’s main characters. Production’s already up and running in Atlanta, and the movie will make its debut next year on MTV. (TMZ)

Lil Yachty was the first surprise, but he’s not the only newcomer to co-star in the upcoming Meth and Red smoke-out sequel How High 2.
Outside of being the most sought after from the Real Housewives of Atlanta and scoring a role on Uncle Drew, NeNe Leakes has a new project she’s working on. The reality star has seemingly inked a role on MTV’s How High sequel because she posted pictures from the set with comedian DeRay Davis, rapper Lil Yachty and comedian DC Young Fly.
Atlanta rapper Lil Yachty is going to flex his Hollywood chops in a certified stoner classic franchise. The hip-hop artist is set to star in the upcoming How High 2 movie.

“As far as Universal, bad move,” Red to SOHH. “Everybody that we promoted the [movie] to, all our fans, we thank you for listening and rooting for us and wondering when the new movie coming out but it’s not our fault. It’s a business move. Universal are not pushing. They’re not opening that money door for us to shoot it. We promoted the sh*t out of that movie. We got the whole world waiting for a How High 2. [They’d] be stupid not to just throw money and say let’s just do it because it’s already promoted. That’s the real deal. It’s business, paperwork, not us.” (SOHH)
