Virginia Cities Threaten Teens With Jail Time For Not Making Halloween Curfew

A handful of U.S. cities is cracking down on candy-seekers over the age of 12, banning older children from partaking in the popular Halloween tradition. Police claim they won’t actively seek out violators, but some are convinced that this is just another ploy to arrest inner city teens.

Chesapeake is among nine Virginia cities that have set age limits to keep teenagers out of trouble on Halloween night, local station FOX 23 reported.

In Norfolk, teenagers could face a Class 4 misdemeanor if caught trick-or-treating.

“If any person over the age of 12 years should engage in the activity commonly known as ‘trick or treat’ or any activity of similar character or nature under any name whatsoever, he or she shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and shall be punished by a fine of nott less than $25.00, nor more than $100.00 or by confinement in jail for not more than six months or both,” the Chesapeake ordinance reads.

According to the city’s website, teens escorting their younger siblings from house to house shouldn’t have to worry, however, authorities warned that some Halloween high jinks simply wouldn’t be tolerated.

“For example, a thirteen-year-old safely trick or treating with a younger sibling is not going to have any issues,” the website says. “That same child taking pumpkins from porches and smashing them in the street more likely will.”

News of the new ordinance drew the ire of social media critics who felt the rules would be used an excuse to target and harass Black children.

Imagine having to explain to your Black child that they can’t trick or treat because they could get imprisoned for 6 months since white and non-Black POC routinely overestimate the age of Black children,” another chimed in. “Imagine.”

One woman argued the law would give white moms yet another excuse to call the cops on Black teens and wondered what could happen to “older children taking younger siblings trick or treating, or young teens who would rather trick or treat than get drunk at a party, or individuals with developmental delays?”

The “evil” ordinance has since sparked the age-old debate about how old is “too old” to go trick-or-treating. A few cities have seemingly tried to put it to rest by imposing curfews or even threatening fines and jail time.

SoundFi: “Have The Most Immersive Experience In A Cinépolis Theater Today”

Tired of boring movie experiences? Wish you could have a Beats By Dre-type adventure when you hit your local theater? Ready for a next-level type of journey at a Cinépolis spot?

Today, check out SoundFi founder Chris Anastas‘ top five reasons you should download his free SoundFi iOS-based app and head out today (October 30) to celebrate the 40th anniversary of horror movie classic Halloween at any nationwide Cinépolis theater! [Check out each reason and grab some screening passes!]

1. The Plot

The number one reason you should have the app is to have the most immersive experience in a Cinépolis theater today. 3D Binaural Audio is the future. Virtual reality is based off 3D audio and gaming is based off 3D audio. This is the first time we’re taking movies and immersing them into optimization for headphones. There is no cost involved to download the movie now. In the future, there will be a cost to download each title. So the app is free but when you go in to pick a movie, you’ll pay probably a dollar. In the future, somewhere maybe summer 2019, if you want the 3D audio immersive version, you’ll probably pay 99 cents and upgrade to it.

2. The Personalized Experience

The second reason is because of the personalized experience. You’re going to have volume control. That also means picking the language of your choice. That means watching a movie to multiple languages. That also gives you the option to have director’s commentary. It also gives you the option to have an R to PG rating for kids.

3. The Languages

The third reason is because of the languages. The reason this blew up so well in Europe is because of the language features. That’s a big reason. We did The Equalizer 2 in Zurich and you had French, English, German and Italian. All popular languages spoken there. There’s a problem we’re solving because with theater owners and consumers, they’re able to watch the movie in German. What if you’re not German? So you’re seeing multiple versions. There’s multiple subtitles on the screen and that’s problematic. People want to go to the theater and they don’t want to have to find out when the German version is playing and when the French version is playing. They just want to go.

4. Director’s Commentary

The director’s commentary feature is a huge reason. It’s lost because people are no longer buying DVDs like they used to. So if you want to hear a director’s commentary, it’s not happening. This gives an opportunity to have a director’s commentary on the big screen.

5. The Halloween Experience

Today, at all Cinépolis locations nationwide, you just download the free app, go and pick out director’s commentary or regular version, download it to your iOS device and bring your wired headphones. Make sure you have your adapter if you have an iPhone 7 or higher, come here and have the most awesome, immersive experience with this title. It’s for iOS now and we’re testing Androids now. You can bring your iPad. You can buy your Halloween ticket on the Cinépolis app or through their website and that’s it. You don’t have to let them know. Just buy your ticket and once the movie starts up, you start listening. Follow us on Instagram, SoundFi and SoundFi.com and you’ll catch all of our latest titles and they’re going to be great.

Jamie Lee Curtis Opens Up About Past Opioid Addiction

Jamie Lee Curtis is proudly 20 years sober, but it was a long time coming.

The actress who presently stars in Halloween, revealed to People she was addicted to pain killers in 1989 and hid it for 10 years.

“I was ahead of the curve of the opiate epidemic,” Curtis said. “I had a 10-year run, stealing, conniving. No one knew. No one.”

This isn’t the first time that Curtis has opened up about her addiction. In 2001, Curtis told CNN, “I don’t know if any of us can really explain what addiction is exactly, because I think it changes with each individual. I think what we can talk about, is really that there’s hope to recover from it.”

Curtis, the daughter of actor Tony Curtis, who likewise struggled with drug abuse, said she hopes her sobriety impacts the future generations of her family.

“I’m breaking the cycle that has basically destroyed the lives of generations in my family,” she said in her interview with People. “Getting sober remains my single greatest accomplishment… bigger than my husband, bigger than both of my children and bigger than any work, success, failure. Anything.”

Curtis said despite everything she goes to attends recovery meetings and tries her best to pay it forward.

“In recovery meetings, anyone who brings up opiates, the entire room will turn and look at me, because I’ll be like, ‘Oh here, talk to me. I’m the opiate girl.’”

Law Degree Holder Megyn Kelly Doesn’t Get Why Blackface Is Racist

Megyn Kelly TODAY - Season 2

Source: NBC / Getty

Megyn Kelly left Fox News for a high-paying gig with rival NBC News, a move that still has some wondering why she left the conservative and cushy job. Kelly reminded many folks that if she ever leaves NBC that Fox will be waiting for her after claiming she doesn’t understand why Blackface is racist.

The Hill reports:

“But what is racist?” Kelly said Tuesday morning. “You truly do get in trouble if you are a white person who puts on blackface at Halloween or a black person who puts on whiteface for Halloween.”

“Back when I was a kid, that was OK, as long as you were dressing up as like a character,” Kelly continued.

Kelly then referenced TV personality Luann de Lesseps’s decision to dress as Diana Ross with what appeared to be darker makeup during a premiere of “The Real Housewives of New York” earlier this year.

De Lesseps immediately drew criticism for the look, which many perceived to be blackface, and issued an apology.

Listen here, Megyn Kelly, and any other white person thinking that Blackface isn’t racist, just don’t do it. Black people have responded repeatedly that you can dress like a person of color WITHOUT darkening your skin. The racist past of the practice is reason alone to stop doing it, and best believe we’ll keep reminding you that it’s wrong.

Watch the clip of Kelly acting like she doesn’t have a law degree and good sense below.
