When it rains it pours. Puerto Rico is once again going through another crisis that can alter the island’s future forever.

As reported by The New Yorker La Isla Borinqueña is fighting the biggest fight of their life since Hurricane Maria in 2017. On July 13 Puerto Rico’s Center For Investigative Journalism uncovered some very offensive and down right racist texts sent by Governor Ricardo Rosselló. The messages ranged from proposing a Puerto Rican born New York official should be beaten to suggesting that the commonwealth would be better off if the San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz would be shot. His crass conversations amounted to 889 of printed pages.

Yesterday citizens took to the streets to protest in effort to get Rosselló out of office. An estimated 50,000 locals flooded San Juan, the island’s capital.

Their voice was also heard in the United States as protests were organized outside The White House and at the Grand Central Terminal station in Manhattan.

Since then Rosselló has refused to resign but said he would not be seeking reelection in 2020. He did state that he would step down from Puerto Rico’s New Progressive Party though. In the wake of this scandal Gerardo Portela, the principal investment officer of Puerto Rico’s economic development bank has walked away from his position. “Unfortunately the events in recent weeks, including the attitudes reflected in the comments of officials and advisers of the current administration, do not match my values,” he said in formal statement.

Naturally our President didn’t waste the opportunity to make things even more awkward. Once again Donald Trump used his Twitter account as the vehicle to tout himself as the good guy.

The Legislative Assembly of Puerto Rico is now moving to impeachment as they have reportedly have contracted three lawyers to prepare a report citing the overwhelming evidence.

Dave Chappelle Stumps For Ben Jealous In MD Governor’s Race

Comedian Dave Chappelle, left, stumps with childhood friend and former NAACP president Ben Jealous, right, at an early voting rally at Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland...

Dave Chappelle returned to his Washington, D.C. area roots to campaign on behalf of gubernatorial hopeful and Democratic Party member, Ben Jealous. Chappelle was in Prince George’s County, Md. in support of the former NAACP president, stating that his celebrity status shouldn’t be tied to his support of Jealous.

TMZ reports:

We got the comedian out Sunday in Forestville, MD, where he was making calls on behalf of Jealous, who’s running for Governor against Republican incumbent Larry Hogan.

Dave tells us he doesn’t consider what he’s doing to be a “celebrity endorsement,” as he’s known Ben his whole life and truly believes he’s qualified for the job. He says rather than tell people how to vote, he’s simply making them aware of Ben’s campaign.

While Dave might not necessarily consider this a political statement, it definitely is … and his on-the-ground involvement is just the latest sign that Hollywood’s taking the midterm elections seriously, especially when it comes to Democratic candidates.

Will Ferrell might be best known for his time on Saturday Night Live and for his leading roles in some of the top comedy films over the past decade, but he’s also about supporting the civic process. Ferrell has been going door-to-door campaigning on behalf of Georgia gubernatorial hopeful Stacey Abrams in the weeks leading up to the general election next month.

HuffPost writes:

The “Anchorman” actor went door to door to encourage citizens of the Peach State to vote for Democratic gubernatorial nominee Stacey Abrams in the midterm elections while also recruiting college students to volunteer for her campaign.

A video posted on Stacey Abrams’ Facebook page Friday shows Ferrell handing out stickers for her campaign at Kennesaw State University.

“We’re gonna win by knocking on doors,” Ferrell can be heard telling students in the video. “All the doors.”

Ferrell has been an outspoken Democrat for years. He endorsed Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) in the 2016 presidential election before switching his support to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

How dope is that? Imagine seeing Will Ferrell knocking on your door encouraging you to vote.

Andrew Gillum Cleans Up Ron DeSantis, Says “Racists Believe He’s A Racist”

Florida Gubenatorial Candidates Trade Attacks in Second Debate

Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum has been embroiled in a tense fight against rival Ron DeSantis in the Florida governor’s race. Facing one another again in a debate, Gillum shut down his Republican opponent in epic fashion, saying at one point that even “racists believe he’s a racist” in Wednesday’s (Oct. 24) gubernatorial debate.

The Hill reports:

“My grandmother used to say a hit dog will holler and it hollered through this room,” Gillum said during a discussion about ongoing allegations of racism against DeSantis. “He’s got neo-Nazis helping out through this state.”

Gillum would be the state’s first black governor and his opponents include neo-Nazis and white supremacists.

“I’m not calling Mr. DeSantis a racist,” Gillum added. “I’m simply saying the racists believe he’s a racist.”

Gillum was the target of a supposed FBI sting after an undercover agent gifted him a pair of tickets to the hit Broadway musical Hamilton, which DeSantis tried to flip into a moment to reveal Gillum as untrustworthy because he didn’t report the gift to campaign officials. However, Gillum brushed it off by using a clever Jay-Z reference that had the crowd going wild.
