Nas’ Comfort Food Joint Sweet Chick Gives Free Meals to Federal Workers During Futile Gov. Shutdown

About four years ago, ultimate Hip-Hop legend Nas became the co-owner of American comfort food joint Sweet Chick. Now, the “New York State of Mind” rapper is leveraging his impact to help those in need. Amid the stifled financial status of federal workers during the historic 2019 government shutdown, the popular restaurant has been generous to workers by offering them free meals.

According to Daily News Sweet Chick co-owner John Seymour says it was Nas’ idea to conduct the gesture who dropped the idea on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. “We wanted to do something positive,” said Seymour. “There are a lot of hard-working people out there not getting a paycheck. We wanted to take care of the people who take care of us.” All said federal employees needed to qualify for free grub was the federal identification issued to them from the sector of government they are employed with.

Nas shared the news on his Instagram last Tuesday, starting the post off with a quote from the late civil rights monarch, Martin Luther King Jr. ” ‘Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’ -MLK.” The post proceeds on to announce the charitable gesture which was stationed at all locations, including the booming West Hollywood, California location. “today at all @sweetchicklife locations we honor the words of Dr King and in support of our Government Employees we are offering FREE Chicken & Waffles Mon-Friday 11am-4pm to all Federal Employees impacted by the shutdown…please have Federal ID and we hope to serve you as you have served us . LOVE #SweetChickLife”

Each location of the comfort food chain has since reportedly fed about 40 federal workers a day. William Reyes, the manager over at the Williamsburg location told Daily News that about 60 workers came to feast on chicken and waffles last Thursday. “There are a lot of people in need,” he said. “People who know what we’re doing are appreciative.”

On Friday (Jan. 25), President Trump signed a measure to reopen the government, which is an overall temporary resolution that will reopen the federal government and provide funding until Feb. 15. Thankful, Sweet Chick is here to recuse those workers who are in limbo about where and how they will get there daily dose of energy. Salute to the mind of Nas.

Democrats Debate About Reposting Cardi B’s Video About Government Shutdown

Cardi B’s views on President Donald Trump and the partial government shutdown has caught the attention of her fans and United States Senators.

After calling out POTUS for refusing to pay federal workers over funding for his wall, the “Money” rapper went viral and Democratic senators Brian Schatz (Hawaii) and Chris Murphy (Connecticut) debated whether or not to retweet Bardi’s video on Twitter.

“Trying to decide whether or not to retweet the Cardi B video,” wrote Schatz. “OMG, I had the same argument with myself 30 minutes ago!” responded Murphy.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer then chimed in revealing that he was also debating about retweeting the rapper’s video. “Guys, I’m still holding my breath. Are you gonna RT Cardi B or not?” Schumer tweeted.

In case you missed it, Cardi B completely slammed the shutdown and placed all the blame on our polarizing Commander in-Chief.

Bardi B For President: Cardi B Weighs In On The Federal Government Shutdown

Cardi B last year turned heads with her encyclopedic knowledge of American politics, which certainly belies her image as a slick-talking rapper. But Bardi once again showed and proved she knows more than most after breaking down the federal government shutdown as only she can.

CNN reports:

“I just wanna remind you that it’s been a little bit over three weeks,” she says in the video. “Trump is now ordering … federal government workers to go back to work without getting paid. … This is serious. Our country is in a hellhole right now. All for a … wall.”

President Donald Trump has ordered thousands of staffers from several government agencies to return to work to process tax returns, perform safety inspections and more. They include the Internal Revenue Service, which is recalling 36,000 workers to process tax filings and refunds. Trump also signed a bill providing back pay to federal employees after the partial shutdown ends, the White House announced Wednesday.

Cardi B says she’s feeling anxious and helpless as the shutdown drags on.

“I feel like we need to take some action,” she says. “I don’t know what type of action … because this is not what I do. But … I’m scared.”

Cardi’s words are resonating among elected officials, although they’re a little hesitant to share the message due to its raw, unfiltered language.

Check out Cardi B’s statements on the federal government shutdown below. Oh, and peep the comments. Everyone is really trying to flex what they know versus taking the overarching passion and point in Cardi’s assertion.

Harlem Globetrotters Offer Free Tickets to Furloughed Federal Employees

We are currently 25 days into the Government Shutdown with no end in sight as President Trump and Congressional Democrats in a struggle to reach a deal on government spending leaving Federal employees either working without pay or furloughed until the government is funded.

Many federal workers have received well wishes from everyday Americans mostly at airports where TSA workers are working without pay, but the Harlem Globetrotters took things a step further offering federal employees free tickets to upcoming games.

“As the Ambassadors of Goodwill, we want to show our support to all those government workers whose paychecks, and by extension, their families, are directly impacted,” said Globetrotter President Howard Smith according to the Harlem Globetrotters website.

“Any U.S. government employee currently on furlough can show their valid government ID at their local box office and receive two complimentary tickets to a Harlem Globetrotter game in North America while supplies last.”

Federal employees missed their first paycheck last week due to the shutdown which resulted in multiple reports of call-outs from work, resignations, and on a lighter side video of TSA employees blasting Travis Scott while on the job. The shutdown became the longest in United States history on Saturday.

With shutdown conversations essentially going nowhere, it seems as though furloughed federal employees of the legendary comedic basketball team could have plenty of chances to get their free tickets. The Globetrotters are currently touring in their 93rd season.

Snoop Dogg Drags Donald Trump for Government Shutdown

Snoop Dogg is unhappy with the partial government shutdown and he is pointing the finger at the Commander in-chief, Donald Trump.

The Hip Hop vet posted a video to Instagram weighing in on the thousands of federal workers whose livelihoods are on the line because of the shutdown. He urged those affected not to vote for Donnie again if he runs again in 2020.

“All you people in the federal government that are not getting paid right now ain’t no way that you can vote for Donald Trump when he come up again,” Snoop began. “If y’all do vote for him, y’all some stupid muthafuckas.”

Elsewhere in the video, he expressed how bad it was that people will not be receiving their federal tax returns. Snoop Dogg argues that the Prez doesn’t care about government workers and reassures his stance on the 2020 Presidential elections towards the end of the video. “Don’t vote for that n—a. Please don’t. Look what he do. He just don’t give a f–k.”
