Journalists & Hollywood Stars Show Support For Gayle King With #IStandWithGayle Hashtag

Snoop Dogg probably didn’t think he would have a former US National Security Advisor, Hollywood actors, and journalists on his ass when he came for Gayle King, but now we are here.

Gayle King came under attack from the likes of Snoop, 50 Cent, and Ari Lennox — who took a break from social media — following a clip from Gayle’s CBS This Morning interview with WNBA legend and champion Lisa Leslie. In the viral moment, King asked Leslie, who was a good friend of Bryant about his 2003 rape case (which he settled) fans immediately lost jumped on Gayle.

Most notably, Snoop’s defense of Bryant is what has garnered the most attention due to what many assumed were threats and his insults of the decorated journalist. He would later “clarify” in another video that he was not threatening King at all, but Snoop did double-down on the fact he believed she was disrespectful by asking Leslie about Kobe’s rape case. He even decided to throw in a “free Bill Cosby” for good measure, which spawned social media responses from the disgraced jailed actor.

You’re definitely doing something wrong if a convicted rapist is siding with you.

Oprah led the charge coming to the defense of her best friend, revealing that King walks around with security due to the death threats she has received. Now Hollywood actors and journalists are coming to the defense of King, who they feel is being unfairly criticized on social media and now are countering the hate with the #IStandWithGayle hashtag.

Names like Erika Alexander (actress), Karine Jean-Pierre (MSNBC/NBC Political Analyst), Kathy Griffin (comedian/actress), Lisa Armstrong, Tiffany Cross, Cory Booker and more have all come to the defense of King.

We see no issue with being upset about the questions Gayle asked about the rape case, but we definitely are not here for misogynist attacks on her. You can be critical without being offensive, and not defending rapists in the process, it’s not hard.

Ari Lennox Apologizes To Gayle King, Takes Leave Of Social Media

2019 Black Girls Rock Awards

Among the entertainers who took aim at Gayle King over the past week including Snoop Dogg, Ari Lennox was among them blasting the journalist. Angered by King asking Lisa Leslie about the late Kobe Bryant‘s 2003 sexual assault case, Lennox is now walking back her criticism and is taking what she says is a permanent exit from social media.

Lennox, 28, took to her Tumblr page and wrote an apology note to the CBS anchor after she took at King and her best friend, media mogul Oprah Winfrey by calling them “some self-hating, pieces of sh*t f*ckasses,” echoing sentiments shared by the aforementioned Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, and a handful of others.

The apology is a lengthy one with the Washington, D.C. songstress essentially explaining that the timing of King’s question was what prompted her previous missive. Lennox then proceeded to explain that she’ll be leaving social media behind as she works on furthering her career and personal life.

From Ari Lennox’s Tumblr:

I am sorry. I was acting like an ass. Im sorry for being insensitive. I truly love y’all so much. I swear to god i be meaning well. I’m not the most structured when i start talking and that has been a blessing and curse. I’ve grown too comfortable with viewing my supporters as my bestie that I can freely vent to with no repercussions. I feel the need to protect people that I feel are genuinely good people.

Lennox adds later in the note that, “I’m excited to leave social media for good. I’m excited for true self love, healing, understanding and peace. To all the people who checked me from a place of love, I love you forever and I hear you and I deeply empathize more than you’ll ever know.”

Former US National Security Advisor Susan Rice Threatens Snoop Dogg With Her “Army” For Slandering Gayle King

White House National Security Advisor Susan Rice Briefs The Media On Obama's Trip To Africa

Source: Chip Somodevilla / Getty

It’s been a pretty rough few days for Gayle King to say the least.

After becoming public enemy number one for dredging up Kobe Bryant’s controversial past during an interview with Lisa Leslie, King found herself under attack from the whole culture (not all, but a lot) including the likes of Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, and even Bill Bellamy (yeah, he’s still around!). Heck, even Oprah got caught in the crossfire after trying to provide Gayle King some cover.

But now it seems like Snoop might have a real problem on his hands as the former United States National Security Adviser, Susan Rice (not to be confused with Bush’s Condoleezza) has taken to social media to put Uncle Snoop on notice.

Responding to that now infamous video of Snoop’s rant about King and calling her out her name, Susan Rice let him know she felt his words were “despicable” and if he continued to come for Gayle King, he’d be facing “an army.” Word? Who knew Rice had King’s back like that.

Unless y’all been living under a rock for the past few days, everything started when CBS aired a clip of King’s interview with Lisa Leslie in which she asked her whether Kobe’s 2003 rape accusation complicated his legacy for her. With Kobe’s death still very much fresh in the minds and hearts of his millions of fans, Gayle was bombarded with criticism, hate, and even death threats for her unnecessary question. Heck, even Bill Cosby got his licks in, but that only earned him a few ricochets shots in the end.

Now that Susan Rice is sticking up for King, she too is catching some heat from people asking why she doesn’t come at white men the way she did at Snoop.

We wonder who’ll be the next brave soul to try to come to King’s defense knowing the Twitterverse is ready to pounce.

CBS News Speaks Out in Defense of Gayle King

It seems as though Gayle King hasn’t been on many’s good sides following her interview with Lisa Leslie. In the interview, King asks Leslie about the 2003 rape case of Kobe Bryant, which sparked a lot of controversies.

Some viewers found King’s questions to be bad timing and disrespectful to the legacy that the former NBA player has left behind. On, Today with Hoda and Jenna, Oprah Winfrey shares that since the interview was released, King has not been “doing well.”

“She has now death threats and has to now travel with security and she’s feeling very much attacked,” Winfrey began. “She feels that she was put in a really terrible position because that interview had already ran and in the context of the interview everyone seemed fine including Lisa Leslie and it was only because somebody at the network put up that clip. I can see how people would obviously be very upset if you thought Gayle was just trying to press to get an answer from Lisa Leslie.”

Winfrey continued by adding, “She hasn’t slept in two days. I think anybody can criticize anything, but the misogynist vitriol and the attacking to the point where it is dangerous to be in the streets alone because it’s just the people attacking it’s the other people who take that message and feel like they can do whatever they want to because of it.”

Not only has fans of the show shown their anger towards the CBS host, but celebrities have has their share of words as well. West Coast rapper, Snoop Dogg was one of the public figures that harshly spoke about the news clip, telling King to “respect the family before we come and get you.”

Susan Zirinsky, President of CBS News made a statement in King’s defense. “We fully support Gayle King and her integrity as a journalist,” she began. “We find the threats against her or any journalist doing their job reprehensible. The interview with Lisa Leslie was comprehensive and thoughtful. We are a country where differences of opinion are welcome, but hateful and dangerous threats are completely unacceptable.”

Snoop Dogg has recently made another video, clarifying his statement after telling fans that he is a “non-violent person.”

“When I said what I said, I spoke for the people who felt like Gayle was very disrespectful towards Kobe Bryant and his family. Now with that being said, What I look like wanting some harm to come to a 70-year-old woman? I was raised way better than that. I didn’t want no harm to come to her and I didn’t threaten her. All I did was say, ‘Listen, you’re outta pocket and we’re watching you.’”

Snoop Dogg Claims He Didn’t Threaten Gayle King

Tensions remain high regarding Gayle King questioning Lisa Leslie during an interview about the legacy of the late Kobe Bryant and his dismissed 2003 sexual assault case. Snoop Dogg was perhaps the loudest of King’s detractors and made what many perceived as a threat towards the journalist, but the rapper insists he did not issue a threat.

Over the weekend, Snoop returned to Instagram to address some of the criticism he received in the wake of a missive he aimed towards King where he referred by why of an offensive term. In a much-highlighted portion of his video rant, Snoop said “respect the family and back off, bi*ch. Before we come get you,” which many took to mean that physical harm could come King’s way.

Snoop said on Saturday that his words, harsh as they appeared, were meant to represent the frustrations of those who adored Bryant. While many blasted Snoop for his words last week, he also received an overwhelming amount of support from celebrities and onlookers for his firm words. The Long Beach, Calif. star also stated he wasn’t raised to wish harm on an older person, although he appeared to be largely unapologetic over his barbs.

A quick scan of Snoop’s Instagram featured approving comments from Pharrell, Charlamagne Tha God, Deion Sanders T.I., Diddy, and Diddy’s son, Quincy Brown among several others. Oprah Winfrey said that since the airing of the Leslie interview and the clip of the Bryant question going viral, King has received a number of death threats and was visibly absent from her morning post last Friday.

Snoop Dogg Says He Never Wanted Harm to Come to Gayle, ‘Was Raised Way Better Than That’

Snoop has been in the news lately for speaking for the people. He was not only speaking out on behalf of many people throughout the country, but he also was speaking from his own place of bereavement.

On one night last week, he used very colorful language to critique Gayle King for her interview with Lisa Leslie, where she brought up his 2003 sexual assault case. While the case she brought up was dismissed, many believe that is cloud diminishes or at least shadows, Kobe’s legacy.

Lisa Leslie said that is not so and that she did not believe the claim. She also urged the media to back off. Gayle King is media.

And so Leslie was not alone. Snoop (and a host of other rappers) took to IG to urge others to back up, believing that the motivation is about attacking Blacks over white males accused of the same crimes.

Again, Snoop used colorful language. Just as many who have applauded his raw and emotional appeal, there were critics. Those critics also have taken it out of the context according to The Dogfather.

He took to social media to clarify what he was saying for those who did not understand his Snoopanese.

Tensions are high, but Snoop says in the video:

“Here is a message for the people that need to know. I am a non-violent person. When I said what I said, I spoke for the people that felt like Gayle was very disrespectful towards Kobe Bryant and his family.”

“Now what that being said. What I look like wanting harm to come to a 70-year-old woman. I was raised way better than that. I don’t want no harm to come to her. I didn’t threaten her.”

Stating he only meant to check her and let her know she was out of pocket and that the community is watching her, he ended saying that he only wanted was for her to consider the other people affected by her investigative journalism.

“All I was saying is have a little more respect for Vanessa and her babies and Kobe Byrant’s legacy.”

President Obama’s National Security Adviser Checks Snoop for His IG Comments to Gayle King

Many people have applauded Snoop Dogg for his comments on Instagram, condemning Gayle King for a clip of her interview with Lisa Leslie on CBS regarding the late Kobe Bryant. In this interview, King spoke with Leslie about her friendship with Bryant and later broached a subject that many have stirred away from altogether: His sexual assault case of 2003.

As the two spoke Leslie answered with care and affection about her friend. She further said that she didn’t believe the allegations were true, never saw that in her friend and that the media should back off and let the family grieve.

The “Gin and Juice” rapper took to his social media and blasted King for asking the question, suggesting in very strong language that she was out of order by talking about him so soon after his death. He also went on to say that she and her best friend Oprah only want to tear Black men down. While he used a myriad of curse words, one cut deep.

Snoop Dogg said, “What do you gain from that? I swear to God, we the worst. We the f—— worst. We expect more from you, Gayle. Why y’all attacking us? We your people! You ain’t come after f—— Harvey Weinstein, asking them dumb-a– questions. I get sick of y’all.”

Them he called King a “funky dog-head b—-” and told her to “back off, b—-, before we come get you.”

While rappers like Boosie BadAzz, 50 Cent, and DNA came at her, so did ballers like Reggie Bush and Matt Barnes, supermodel Naomi Campbell and even imprisoned comedian Bill Cosby came out in support, there have been people who thought it not robbery to stand up strongly to stop what appears to be cyberbullying.

One of those persons is tough as nails, Susan Rice, National Security Advisor.

She said, “This is despicable. Gayle King is one of the most principled, fair and tough journalists alive. Snoop, back the **** off. You come for @GayleKing, you come against an army. You will lose, and it won’t be pretty.”

Now the question is… who is in that army?

Snoop Dogg Explains His Explosive Gayle King Rant On ‘The Rickey Smiley Morning Show’

2020 Bud Light Super Bowl Music Fest - Night 2

Source: John Parra / Getty

Snoop Dogg rang off a shot heard across the Internet airwaves and the world when he aimed a short but angry video rant at the direction of Gayle King. The West Coast rapper and entertainer joined The Rickey Smiley Morning Show to explain his explosive words towards the CBS anchor.

Uncle Snoop called into the show sounded seemingly unbothered about all the fervor regarding him calling King a “dog-haired b*tch” for her line of questioning during an interview with Lisa Leslie where the veteran journalist referenced the late Kobe Bryant’s sexual assault case.

Snoop, like many others online, felt that the question was out of line and Leslie kindly deflected and defended her friend, but it seemed as if King wanted to dig her heels in to get a deeper response. While that didn’t happen, the moment was jarring enough to get Snoop to hurl the jab at King via a social media clip.

Smiley’s co-host, Da Brat, made mention of King’s question and Snoop didn’t hold back why he felt it was necessary to speak about the moment in the frank fashion he did.
