R. Kelly Files Motion to Be Released From Jail Because of Coronavirus Outbreak

Just like everyone else behind bars, celebrities are looking for a way out because of the global Covid-19 pandemic, which has already affected over a half million people around the world and almost 22,000 have already succumbed to the virus.

R. Kelly is the latest of the incarcerated celebs to “cry freedom”, filing a motion today (March 26) to be released from Chicago’s MCC facility, where the disgraced R&B singer fears he’s at a higher risk of contracting the contagious virus.

Steven Greenberg, Kelly’s lawyer, says that social distancing is virtually impossible in jail and complains that the hand sanitizer in the facility is for “staff only.”

“No matter what steps they take the sanitation will be substandard, the risk of an internal pandemic at the MCC is great,” said Kelly in the federal motion filed by Greenberg.

Kelly and his legal team are requesting that he be released on bond. Kelly has even voluntarily presented the idea to the court of electronic monitoring, but because of the pandemic, says that he’ll be staying put.

Last week, Kelly’s legal team was prohibited from visiting him due to the Coronavirus outbreak.

Kelly is currently facing numerous federal sex crime charges and remains in a federal detention facility in Illinois. Two weeks ago, the “Trapped In The Closet” crooner was hit with multiple new charges by federal prosecutors in New York, alleging two new victims, one who was a minor in 2015 when she claims she has sex with Kelly in 2015.

R. Kelly is set to stand trial in September 2020.
