Justice For Juicy?: Jussie Smollett May Be Returning To ‘Empire’ For Finale

FOX's Empire - Season Five

Actor Jussie Smollett may be seeing his return to Empire soon.

According to Showrunner Brett Mahoney during an interview with TV Line, the show is in discussions with Smollett about possibly resuming his role for the Empire finale.

“It would be weird in my mind to end this family show and this family drama of which he was such a significant part of without seeing him,” Mahoney says. “It’s fair to say it’s being discussed, but there’s no plan as of yet to bring him back. There’s been no decision made.”

Jussie Smollett was written out of the Fox series “Empire” after it was discovered that he fabricated his story claiming he was beaten up by men who yelled “This is MAGA country!” and put a noose around his neck.

Jussie departed at the last two episodes of season five when the show wrote out his character by adding  Smollet’s character and husband went on a honeymoon before relocating to London in the storyline. Despite the allegations against Jussie, his cast mates have continued to stand in solidarity with the actor and have been vocal about missing him from the set. During an interview on the red carpet with Extra, Terrence Howard shared his views on the situation adding that while he misses Smollett, the absence of the continued media drama was refreshing.

“It hurts. It’s like losing a son, but it’s nice not having all of the media circus around regarding all of the things that took place,” Howard said.

Although Hollywood has moved on and is seemingly trying to help Smollett get back to work, the Chicago Police Department hasn’t gotten the memo.

According to the Chicago Sun Times, Lawyers for the city of Chicago as well as several officers who are being sued by the actor for “malicious prosecution” are asking for the lawsuit to be dismissed. They are looking for the lawsuit to be tossed because the “Empire” star could still be looking at charges for allegedly faking a hate crime.

In a 14 page letter, the city requests for the lawsuit to be dismissed pointing out that Jussie Smollett is still facing a possible indictment. Smollett’ s lawyers fired back with their own 16-page letter pointing out that while no charges have been filed against Smollett—he has been tried in the public, resulting in humiliation and loss of work among other things.

The city’s lawyers argued in court on Monday that despite Smollett’s claims, the criminal proceedings were not terminated. In fact, Cook County Judge Michael Toomin appointed attorney Dann Webb to investigate evidence against Smollett, which could result in him issuing the actor new charges.

“Smollett’s criminal proceeding is thus not over — an investigation into his potential crimes is ongoing and criminal charges may well be re-instituted. For this reason alone, Smollett’s malicious prosecution claim fails,” said the city’s lawyers.

The lawsuit was filed by the city of Chicago after the city spent $130,106 to investigating a hate crime against Smollett, which allegedly ended up being a false claim made by the actor. They are now looking to recover those funds.

The final season of Empire is slated to wrap in 2020.

Lucious Lyon Shows Up With Raggedy Faux Locs On His Head, Twitter Utterly Confused

Empire's Lucious Lyon's Faux Dread Locs Are Getting Fried On Twitter

Source: FOX / Getty

Empire is in its final season, Lee Daniels and company are going all the way there with the ridiculousness. A clip from the new season surfaced of Terrence Howard’s character Lucious Lyon and his new hairstyle and Twitter collectively blank stared in confusion.

Who needs when Juicy Smolliét when Lucious is still on the show? Over the years, the patriarch of the Lyon family has had many hairstyles. We have seen him rocking a conk, a flat top, a close fade and now for his swan song faux dread locs. We don’t know how much time has passed in the Empire television universe, but apparently, it was enough to where Lucious could have that particular hairstyle.

The scene in question features Lucious speaking with his son Andre with the unusual choice of hairdo stealing everyone’s attention.

Salute to Trai Byers for keeping a straight face during the scene because honestly, we laughed watching that clip. Twitter, of course, could not believe what they saw flash across their timelines. They immediately pondered why Hollywood can’t seem to get the whole fake dread locs thing down to a science yet.

The jokes didn’t stop there, Empire also got clowned with folks who watch and those who don’t clowning Lucious and his faux locs and deservingly so. I guess we understand now why Howard said after this season I am stepping away from the acting game.

You see all of the hilarious reactions Lucious’ hair in the gallery below.

Fox Announces EMPIRE Season 6 Premiere Date, Show Moves To New Day + Time Slot

There’s no more need to rush home by 8 PM Wednesday nights this fall. TV network Fox has announced its popular “Empire” series is set to return in the coming months to its original time slot.

On Monday, Fox revealed the Taraji P. Henson and Terrence Howard-starring series will premiere Tuesday, September 24 at 9 Pm.

Fox has officially set its fall premiere dates for the 2019-2020 season. As was previously announced, the 71st Emmy Awards will air live on Fox on Sunday, Sept. 22. “9-1-1” returns for its third season on Monday, Sept. 23, leading in to the series premiere of the new Fox drama series “Prodigal Son.” Tuesday, Sept. 24 will see the Season 3 premiere of medical drama “The Resident,” followed by the sixth and final season premiere of the hit music drama “Empire.” (Variety)

Back in April, FOX announced its decision to bring back the hip-hop soap opera.

Jussie Smollett’s future on “Empire” remains in limbo. The series has officially been renewed for a sixth season on Fox, but there are no plans for Smollett’s character Jamal to return. Smollett, 36, was accused of orchestrating a racial and homophobic-fuelled assault on himself. He was eventually indicted for disorderly conduct, but all charges against Smollett were controversially dropped. (ET Canada)

According to reports, both Taraji and Terrence recently joined others in requesting axed “Empire” star Jussie Smollett to return for its sixth season.

Henson, Howard, and the rest of the drama series’ top cast, penned an April 19 letter to Fox Entertainment CEO Charlie Collier, Disney TV Studios and ABC Entertainment chair Dana Walden, Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn, Empire co-creators Lee Daniels and Danny Strong, and other executive producers on the series, Varietyconfirmed. “Together, as a united front, we stand with Jussie Smollett and ask that our co-star, brother and friend be brought back for our sixth season of Empire,” read the letter, obtained by Deadline. It is signed by Bryshere Y. Gray, Trai Byers, Gabourey Sidibe, Nicole Ari Parker, and others. (Variety)

Earlier this year, New York rapper 50 Cent trolled Jussie with an R. Kelly meme.

EMPIRE Creator Lee Daniels Reveals If Jussie Smollett’s Returning For Final Season

Empire

“Empire” creator Lee Daniels is ending all of the speculation. The Hollywood executive has updated fans wondering if estranged actor Jussie Smollett is returning for the show’s final season.

According to Daniels, “Empire” viewers won’t see Jussie return to the series once season six arrives.

“Jussie [Smollett] will NOT be returning to ‘Empire,’” series co-creator Lee Daniels said Tuesday. Daniels was responding to a Variety report in which multiple production sources said that “Empire’s” writing staff was breaking ideas for the show’s sixth and final season with the expectation that Smollett would appear in the back half of the 18-episode season.
