Elton John went deep in his Hip-Hop bag for his new album, The Lockdown Sessions. The 16-track release features Young Thug, Nicki Minaj, Dua Lipa, 6lack, Charlie Puth, and more.

Created during quarantine, Elton John reveals making an album wasn’t at the forefront of his mind.

“The last thing I expected to do during lockdown was make an album,” Elton shared. “But, as the pandemic went on, one‐off projects kept cropping up and I’ve ended with a selection of really interesting and diverse stuff that was completely different to anything I’m known for, stuff that took me out of my comfort zone into completely new territory.

“And I realized tehre was something weirldy familiar about working like this. At the start of my career, in the late 60s, I worked as a session musician. Working with different artists during lockdown reminded me of that. I’d come full circle: I was a session musician again. And it was still a blast.”

YOu can tape into the new release below.

Elton John Reportedly Calls Michael Jackson ‘Mentally Ill’ in New Memoir

Elton John released a new memoir titled, Me, and he opened up about his perceptions of Michael Jackson during his last years in comparison to when he first met him as a young teen.

“I’d known Michael since he was 13 or 14 … He was just the most adorable kid you could imagine,” Elton reportedly writes, as per TMZ. “But at some point in the intervening years, he started sequestering himself away from the world, and away from reality the way Elvis Presley did.”

John went on to self-diagnose the King of Pop’s mental state or blamed it on him abusing prescription drugs. Regardless of the reason for his weird behavior, John made it clear that the legendary singer and performer “totally lost his marbles.”

“God knows what was going on in his head, and God knows what prescription drugs he was being pumped full of, but every time I saw him in his later years I came away thinking the poor guy had totally lost his marbles,” Elton continues. “I don’t mean that in the light-hearted way. He was genuinely mentally ill, a disturbing person to be around.” John also writes that Jackson “couldn’t seem to cope with adult company at all.”

Elton John spoke candidly about his own drug addiction when promoting his memoir on CBS News.

“It nearly destroyed my soul. My soul was black, like a charred piece of steak, until I said, ‘I need help.’ And suddenly, a little pilot light in my soul came along going, ‘Yes, I’m still here. I’m still here. I’m still here. I can still be rescued.’”

Me will be on book stands tomorrow, October 15th.

Future and Elton John Are BFF’s Now

Future and Elton John clearly on the same wave. The two music stars, who both happened to be rocking track suits, snapped a pic with each other and share it on Instagram.

“Me and my brother @eltonjohn leaving the studio. Love is Love,” read the caption of Hendrixx’s post.

While Future was dutifully rocking a Reebok tracksuit since he reps the brand, Elton John was in a shiny number from Gucci.

What’s that collaborative music sound like, though?

Recently, Elton John was kicking it with Q-Tip.

Elton John Says A Tribe Called Quest Is ‘the Seminal Hip-Hop Band of All Time’

Sir Elton John has exposed his Hip-Hop taste, which includes a dose of A Tribe Called Quest. In a recent episode of a special edition of Elton John’s Beats 1 radio show “Elton John’s Rocket Hour” featuring Q-Tip, the pop-rock legend describes the iconic Hip-Hop group as being “the seminal hip-hop band of all time.”

The episode takes off with both class acts telling tales about their careers in music, spine-tingling moments, and their favorite jams. In the midst of the fluent chatter, John took a moment to express his thoughts about A Tribe Called Quest. “There’s something about A Tribe Called Quest that was so cool. It was so kind of laid back but it was so funky. You were unlike any other hip-hop band,” said John.

He went on to share his hip-hop experiences in the UK, highlighting the beauty of hip-hop unity. “I remember starting out seeing bands like N.W.A. and Public Enemy in London at the Hammersmith, and then De La Soul,” John recalled. “There’s something wonderful about you guys coming together.”

Later in the episode, John honorably recognized ATCQ as being “the seminal hip hop band of all time.” After noting their disbanding, Q-Tip compared the separation as a marriage saying, “it gets to the point like it’s a marriage as everybody says,” he said.”It got a little funky there but we always loved each other we all grew up with each other and plus the times were changing. When we started it was more of a group thing, and then years later it’s a very trendy thing in hip hop where it got to be a solo man’s game. It just happened, but we did okay.”

Q-Tip teamed up with Demi Lovato last year to cover Elton John’s classic duet with Kiki Dee “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” for Revamp: Reimagining the Songs of Elton John & Bernie Taupin, a tribute album dedicated to Sir Elton and his longtime songwriting partner Bernie Taupin. Before the release of the tribute album, Sir Elton appeared on ATCQ’s last album We got it from Here… Thank You 4 Your service on the track “Solid Wall of Sound” featuring Busta Rhymes and Jack White.

The appreciation for great music between Elton John and Q-Tip is certainly on record that not only bridges generation gaps but serves as a window of cross-recognition among the diverse spectrum of music genres.

Elton John Is A Huge Tribe Called Quest Fan & Says Anyone Who Isn’t Is “Stupid”

Q-Tip & Elton John

To damn near everyone in the culture A Tribe Called Quest has solidified itself as one of the greatest if not thee greatest Hip-Hop group of all-time, and while love for the Queens rap group remains strong to this day it was surprising to learn that pop/rock legend Elton John is also a huge fan of the 90’s Queens rap group.

In his latest episode of the Rocket Hour Show on Beats 1 Radio, the “Rocket Man” singer invited ATCQ’s Q-Tip to guest feature on the show and in their conversation about the group, Sir Elton John called them “the seminal Hip-Hop band of all-time.” That’s quite a heap of praise there coming from another music legend. Continuing to commend A Tribe Called Quest and their importance to music, John says anyone who isn’t familiar with the group is “stupid” and that if they’d give a listen to the classic “Electric Relaxation” then they’d “understand why I rave about them.”

If you have Elton John refer to anyone who doesn’t know you as “stupid” then you know you’ve done something right in life. Just saying.

Check out Elton John’s latest episode of the Rocket Hour Show on Beats 1 Radio when it debuts at 10am in LA, 1pm in NYC and 5pm in London.

Q-Tip Explains The Changes In Hip-Hop That Led To ATCQ’s Breakup

Q-Tip and Elton John have worked together on music. Elton appeared on A Tribe Called Quest’s final album, courtesy of the song “Solid Wall Of Sound.” The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame-inducted British songwriter, singer, and pianist provided additional vocals to the track that sampled his “Bennie And The Jets” song which topped the charts in 1974. Last year, Q-Tip and Demi Lovato covered another mid-’70s Elton cut, 1976’s “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” collaboration with Kiki Dee.

The Abstract is the latest guest on Sir Elton John’s Rocket Hour Radio on Apple’s Beats 1. The full episode premieres this afternoon (March 21). In clips, the host tells Tip about how much of a fan he has been of Tribe. “I’m so thrilled to do this show with you. A Tribe Called Quest are probably the seminal Hip-Hop band of all time, I think,” asserts John. In another section, John notes, “I remember starting out seeing bands like N.W.A and Public Enemy in London at the Hammersmith Odeon. And then De La Soul and people like that. And it’s just—there’s something wonderful about you guys coming together and all the different members.”

Elton alludes to the breakup of A Tribe Called Quest. Although the group performed together at times during the 2000s and released one song in 2003, many were astonished by 2016’s reunion album, We Got It from Here… Thank You 4 Your Service, dropping just months after the death of Phife Dawg. “We kind of, you know—it gets to the point where it’s like a marriage as every [artist has said] before me. It got a little funky there. But we always loved each other; we all grew up with each other. The times were kind of changing [in the late 1990s]. ‘Cause when we started, [Hip-Hop] was more of a group thing. And then, 10 years later—it’s a very trendy thing, the Hip-Hop [genre] sometimes, [and] it was getting to be a solo man’s game. And we were kind of on the outs and [separating] just happened,” Q-Tip reveals.

In 1999, one year after The Love Movement, he stepped forth with gold-certified solo debut Amplified. Phife Dawg followed with 2000’s Da Ventilation: DA LP. Meanwhile, Ali Shaheed Muhammad went on to co-found Lucy Pearl. In 2004, he dropped his solo, Shaheedullah and Stereotypes. Another founding Tribe member, Jarobi White, formed evitaN with Dres of Black Sheep.

Elton points to Tribe’s subsequent reunion. “We did [get back together]; we did okay,” Q-Tip responds. He then asks Elton about his early work in the band Bluesology. Tip suggests how challenging group dynamics can be.

Elsewhere in the conversation, Q-Tip updates fans. Approaching a decade since Kamaal The Abstract released, he reveals, “I’m working with Mary J. Blige.” Elton John says he is glad to hear that. “That’s my sis’ right there.” XXL magazine also reports that Q-Tip is collaborating on something with Danny Brown. In another clip, Tip confirms, “I’m working on solo records—plural; I’m working on three records.” For years, Q-Tip has suggested his next solo album would be The Last Zulu.

For a period, Q-Tip was believed to be signed to Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music. It is unclear if that remains the case.

Elton John Admits He Loves Eminem’s Machine Gun Kelly “Killshot” Disses

Eminem Machine Gun Kelly

Music icon Elton John is low-key about that battle rap. The rock veteran has shared his love for Eminem’s recent “Killshot” diss record.

In a sneak peek from an upcoming “Rocket Hour” show chat, John directly tells Em how he feels about the hard-hitting battle bars.

In an upcoming interview on his Rocket Hour show, Sir Elton sat down with the best-selling rapper and said he thought highly of Eminem’s latest diss track ‘Killshot’, aimed at Machine Gun Kelly, who the rapper has been feuding with over the last couple of months. “You know, you’ve had your little moments towards Machine Gun Kelly and you put out the diss track ‘Kill Shot’, which I love, by the way.” (News Hub)

Back in late September, Em’s hit record shot up the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Eminem has proven as much with “Killshot,” his scorching new Machine Gun Kelly diss track that debuts at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week. The diss track also launches atop the Digital Song Sales chart, Eminem’s first song to do so since his Rihanna collaboration “The Monster” in 2013. “Killshot” marks Eminem’s 10th Digital Song Sales chart-topper, tying him with Drake for the most among male artists. (Forbes)

Prior to the achievement, G-Unit boss 50 Cent applauded Em’s record making history on video streaming giant YouTube.

According to reports, Em’s “Killshot” YouTube video had the largest debut of any hip-hop song in YouTube history.

The official audio of “Killshot” earned a record 38.1 million views on YouTube in the first 24 hours of its release on Friday. It now has over 72 million views on the site. YouTube said “Killshot” also had the third-highest debut of any song in the site’s history, and the track is on top of the site’s US trending chart. (Business Insider)
