The race to become the Democratic nominee for President of the US in 2020 just got even whiter. Today (Jan. 2), Julián Castro announced that he is ending his Presidential campaign.

Castro, the former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development under the Obama administration, was the only Latino candidate in the Democratic primary field.

Reports the New York Times:

Throughout his campaign, Mr. Castro, 45, a native of San Antonio who spent five years as its mayor, portrayed himself as an unapologetic liberal who was shaped by his humble beginnings and had been overlooked by the press. Though he created some memorable moments as he championed progressive policy and challenged his rivals on the campaign trail, Mr. Castro failed to catch on with voters and was unable to break into the upper tier of a crowded primary field. His exit is the latest departure of a candidate of color from a field that began as the most racially diverse ever in a Democratic primary.

Castro released a nearly 4-minute clip that was a montage of his platform and eventually relayed why he was calling it a campaign.

“I’ve determined that it simply isn’t our time,” said Castro in the clip. “So today it’s with a heavy heart, and profound gratitude, that I will suspend my campaign for President.”

In the social media note he added, “I’m so proud of everything we’ve accomplished together. I’m going to keep fighting for an America where everyone counts—I hope you’ll join me in that fight.”

Castro was one of the few candidates to address police brutality and the injustices of the justice system while campaigning. Castro would make a fine Senator or VP. Just saying.

Senator Kamala Harris

Sen. Kamala Harris made a return to The Breakfast Club as she continues to beat the presidential campaign trail in hopes of becoming the Democratic Party’s candidate for all the marbles in 2020. In the chat, the junior U.S. Senator makes another bid in showing she has what it takes to knock President Donald Trump out the White House and also laying out some important policies for voters to consider.

Sen. Harris came to the show back in February with the California politician waxing on subjects such as legalizing marijuana, smoking pot in college, and being a 2Pac fan among other more pertinent issues. This time, Harris was greeted by the full team as Angela Yee was absent in the last chat, and she gamely took on the Club’s tough questions with the skill of a person ready to run the country.

With some debates under her belt and poll numbers showing that she’s at the top of the list alongside frontrunner Joe Biden, Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Sen. Bernie Sanders, Harris is surging at the right time and her campaign talking points sound sharper than ever.

Check out 7 things we learned from Sen. Kamala Harris on The Breakfast Club below.

As the political climate continues to intensify celebrities are stepping up to ensure we have proper representation in office. LeBron James and Travis Scott have made it clear they are here for Beto O’Rourke.

As per Hypebeast, Cactus Jack made an appearance last week in his hometown of Houston, Texas where he stood by the Democratic candidate at a rally. The “Goosebumps” rapper encouraged the youth to vote. “I just want to reiterate real quick that all the kids need to go out [to the polls]. We need to just tell our peers, whenever we’re jamming music, whenever we at these concerts, we need to just tell our peers to step out and vote. From 18 and up, we can change the world.”

King James also is vouching for the Columbia University alum with a purposeful fashion choice. Last week the Los Angeles Laker was spotted wearing a “Beto For Senate” cap as he entered the AT&T Center for their match against the San Antonio Spurs.

Naturally this caused great excitement with his fans and followers.

According his official campaign site Beto O’Rourke is a fourth generation Texan. After graduating from college he launched a small technology company. In 2005 he started his political career with a seat on the El Paso City Council. He is currently running for Senate for Texas. According to The Hill Republican Ted Cruz is estimated to have a five percent lead over O’Rourke.
